Fedor Emelianenko vs Boxing Heavyweight Champions?

NOTE : Now don't get me wrong here - this isn't a UFC/Pride vs Boxing thread. This topic might not float well at first sight - but it isn't MMA Vs BOXING at all. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/weeimcool/EmelianenkoFedor21.jpg This is an argument between me and my brother - and I've come to BoxingScene to see your side on this. The argument is that Fedor, with the proper training (that includes eating proper) and within a couple of years, he can beat the current heavy weight champions (Klitschko, Chagaev, Peter). My brother also thinks that Fedor's stand up is very good for an MMA fighter - and that his current stand up could hold up in boxing (hold up, not win, hold up) though with the proper training and with his (could be) future skills, he could dominate the heavyweight division. In contrast.. My side has been flip-flopping.. I know Fedor is one tough M.F. and I've seen him in trouble in fights.. but never from a stand up punch? My stance of the argument is that his generalization of Fedor's boxing skills is only in such high regard because of his opponent's boxing skills. If you're an MMA fan, perhaps you can enlighten my views on some better MMA fighters that have great boxing skills (or if you can nail it in specific, Fedor's opponents) but I haven't seen of his opponents or many MMA fighters that are great at boxing (unless they've transferred from boxing to MMA) So I'm not bashing MMA or boxing, or saying one side will beat the shit out of the other. Just simply saying that I think his thoughts on Fedor are the way they are because of his low boxing competition. HOWEVER, I do think Fedor could do some damage in the boxing ring in the heavy weight division. (flip flopping)After all my argument I gotta admit, he's got heart, stamina, power, and an iron jaw. What do you fellas think? Think his competition boxing competition is high in MMA? Can Fedor do well if he endured the proper training?

Fedor was hurt bad by Fujita, was being outboxed by Noguiera, was rocked by jabs from CroCop and even got his eye split open by a natural middleweight(MMA) in Matt Lindland fairly recently. The only guy out of this list that has any boxing ability at all is CroCop and maybe sort of Noguiera, and CroCop is mostly known for his kicks and Nog is really just a submission guy that has good enough boxing for mma. all due respect to Fedor, but he he doesnt have that great of standup, especially not in Professional Boxing. his standup works fairly well in mma, but Sambo is his #1 thing, and he knows it as well. and, in general, mma guys cant transition to boxing that great. even the top tenish strikers in mma really cant get past journeymen in boxing. I hope that didnt sound disrespectful, but its basically the truth.

If he had chosen boxing over MMA when he was younger and developed a solid boxing amatuer career than I think he definitely would've made a good heavyweight, same with Fedor......But they chose MMA instead. Well I'm pretty sure that's /thread. Just changed both of our views. Haha.

Even with a weak Heavyweight Division, I doubt that Fedor would be able to compete with Klit's jab and ring intellegence. I dont even think he would be able to hang with David Haye.

Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest MMA fighter of all time and he has great striking for MMA, but boxing is a completly different ballgame, Fedor would get raped by the heavyweights in Boxing...I think Fedor's brother Aleksander Emelianenko has the better striking of the two, he is bigger (6,6 250), has great handspeed for a big man and KO power, Golden Boy promotions actually tried signing Aleksander to a boxing contract, but he chose to stay in MMA. I agree with Wlad in this one that Fedor is great MMA fighter, but ther is no way he can win against any decent boxer in his weight, and his brother is much more accurate "boxer" than Fedor, Fedor is way wide open in his attacks and he hasn't the best chin IMO.

Do you think Aleksander would have had a good chance with boxing? If he had chosen boxing over MMA when he was younger and developed a solid boxing amatuer career than I think he definitely would've made a good heavyweight, same with Fedor......But they chose MMA instead.

fedor is an outstanding fighter in Pride. but boxing is totally different sport. fedor wouldnt have the luxury of tackling someone down on the mat and forcing a submission. the floor is where he's most effective. he's a good wrestler but he's not an effective stand up fighter. That's where his argument stands... apparently in his mind Fedor currently HAS the boxing skills needed to withstand a boxing match. However, can learn and improve over time. He's saying that Fedor's boxing skills are much above great - however, like many boxers, he would need some touch ups.

You mean by boxing rules? No, he is a smallish guy(for a heavy) and while he is an undeniabely great mma fighter, boxing is a whole different beast. Wlad would eat him alive, no matter how much Fedor trains. Yes under boxing rules. And of course, hypothetically speaking, I'm speaking as if Fedor left all MMA behind and came into boxing. So you think size would be his loss? Peter is 6'0 Chagaez is 6'1 Fedor is 6'0 How do you suppose Fedor could do with the other two champs?
