I was under the impression that hitting with the inside of your glove was a foul, but then again I've never heard of Joe even being warned about it. So is what he does nowadays legal or not?
no he wouldn't it quite obvious you've only seen the last 4-5 calzaghe fights. There isn't alot of footage of him pre-lacy but He was a monster. His fight with Brewer was a 12 round war no slaps, Mitchell, Veit 1&2 had NO SLAPS. Pretty much all his fights pre lacy contained no slaps
I have seen most of his fights, including some from his beginning career. My point in that post was that if it was illegal he would have gotten caught a long time ago.
Calzaghe throws a lot of slappy shots but he slips in really hurtful punches in amongst them. They are more legal than headbutts and elbows and they are less womanly than pretending to be hurt to get a bit of a breather.
right, to excess
"excess" is subjective. but if what calzaghe does is illegal, then its alot easier to warn for. not only that he would be getting points for it
That's what ive been trying to say for so long. He can BANG and BANG hard but because he's fighting top level opposition he cant take the risk of hurting his hand otherwise he gets beaten pretty badly.

Clinching to an excess is illegal you CAN be docked points for that.

I think Calzaghe can still bang but because he is fighting these top guys now he knows if breaks it.....that's it. He's getting knocked out more than likely.
So you can understand why he doesnt take the risk.
why are you being so defeinsive?
clinching is not illegal to my knowledge but headbutts are. and you cant get points for headbutts

If it was illegal he would be 0-45

are all the clinching and headbutts which are worse then a slap to the face legal? I guess Hopkins looks like crap now if thats all illegal

some of the punches definately land on the palm
Yeah some not all, if he went in hitting him with just his palms like girls do when they scrap outside the pub, that would be illegal. But as most of the shots connect with the outer part of the glove it's fine.
Fuck me it's gotta be more legal than elbowing or headbutts.
i'm just glad people are finally reallizing how lame his punches are...i'm real shocked Hop didnt talk more about how his punches dont hurt...mayb the slaps do hurt more than i think tho...lol...but it is a gay way to win a fight..course so is one punch and holding
a lot of people associate hopkins slowing down cause of the amount he took of punches/slaps whatever you want to call them. i think it was more of him having to respond to them that took away his energy, not the impact of them
i dont think the slaps hurt alot so to speak, but when you throw the amount that calzaghe does, then it will always take an affect on the opposing boxer in the long run just because of the amount he throws
Ali did exactly the same thing, it's bull shit.
He's not hitting with the palm, it's more of a swiping hook shot, of course it's legal.

i dont think it is legal, but there isnt any ref that has warned him over it because opponents dont complain during the fight maybe, if every ref started warning him and docking points for slapping, calzaghe wouldnt have a game plan now because he cannot punch like he use to because of his hands
