It's good but he was lucky in the fact that people were willing to unify with him, untill recently the SMW division has had countless bum champions from Germany who are willing to fight for shit money just to keep hold of thier belts.
Calzaghe also beat people like David Starie who had a win over Clinton Woods just a year before.
I'm just saying his resume isn't all that impressive... Haye has beat Maccarinelli and Mormeck at the age of 27, Calzaghe had beaten Eubank, Sheika, Woodhall and Reid by the same age. Belts or no belts that's still a better resume, IMO.
Calzaghe won a vacant WBO title against a drained eubank in his 23rd fight..
Still a good win. But beating Mormeck in his own back yard and unifying against Enzo in his 23rd fight is extraordinary. very few fighters do this shit that early.
Calzaghe has a solid resume but Haye's after 23 fights is pretty incredible. Mormeck was a tough as teak WBA/WBC world champion who hadn't lost for years

It might also be a good idea to keep in mind that Haye was dropping 15 - 20 lbs of water to weigh in for Cruiserweight, and that will always have an effect on punch reception. Look at Miguel Cotto who was chinny at 140 lbs but at welterweight seems pretty iron-jawed. That's a 7 lb difference. With Haye it's more like a 20 lb difference.
Wait and see is what I say but don't forget that a certain W. Klitschko has already proven himself to be chinny at Heavyweight, Haye has not.
That's a fair point, I can concur with that.

What a fight, had not watched it yet.
Great display of resistance by Thompson, Haye had him out of his feet for most of the fight, but he refused to go down. Just incredible.
True, Haye gassed out, he has poor puch resistance for a HW, but I won't take this fight against him bc I think he has learned from it and is conditioning himself better nowadays. It doesn't mean he won't get KOed by the top HWs though.
I think he's funny as fuck. He talks crap in the same manner as a Floyd Mayweather but there's a sly wink in it all like he's really sort of taking the piss out of himself. While someone like Floyd really believes his own hype, Haye seems to be having fun playing the heel.
lol @ this thread. He punched himself out.. he was green as fuck in this fight. ricky you are a serious prick.
Your boy JC took 43 fights to unify his division.
Your boy Enzo got seriously sparked out by Haye.
you should have some respect for what Haye has done and what he is trying to do
Based on assessments I've been reading MANNY PACQUIAO would make a great heavyweight because like Haye he has a lot of knockouts and has never fought or beaten nor has any interest in competing as Heavyweight.
Somebody needs to reming Haye you can't win fights with his mouth
Who knows if Haye is the next big thing at heavyweight? He is making a splash though, and the reason he's making a splash is that his personality, his bravado and his knockouts make the heavyweight division fun again. There's too many safety-first monosyllabic operators who are mailing in their fights. Haye is brash, puts it on the line to try for the big finish and wants to be the guy that beat them all. What's not to like?
I agree with you 100% props to haye for calling out the best, wanting to fight the best and goes out there throwing bombs putting on a show!
