There's a real british champ, Lennox Lewis. NEVER ducked anyone. Avenged both losses in brutal fashion. Fought in America multiple times. Calzaghe is good at best. It embarrases me to see so many of you make this ranting posts about how great joe is and how he whooped Hopkins. So pathetic.
That's for sure. I always thought he was boring to watch and was annoyed he would always say "Nobody stops my jab, Nobody." Now that I'm 26 and follow alot more boxing I can look back and really appreciate how he fought. He would break MFers down with that jab all day. I wish he would come back and smash Wladimirs jaw in, there's a guy whose been making boring fights of late. Is it me or have alot of the fighters recently been lacking with the jabs??
Wladimir is a jabber too. Imo not as good and Lewis technically but because of his huge physical advantages (+20 pounds avg over his opponents) his jab packs more punch.
Dawson would beat Taylor quite easily and Lacy destroyed or not, Hopkins would have beat him quite badly and even you know that well deep down squealy! come on now!!!
Light Heavy is a stale division, Calzaghe and to a lesser extent Hopkins are the standouts. Super middle has more world class fighters even if it is currently lacking someone who is super-elite in the class. At light heavy there are a few decent fighters. Super middle has more depth.
lots of smaller fighters like Hop, PBF get alot of clout for winning in multiple weight divisions
Hop has never been a smaller fighter. Ever. He was always a light heavyweight draining down to 160 lbs.
I just sick of finding so much hate here and on ESB every time a white fighter wins: Pavlik and Wlad in Feb, and Calzaghe now.
I wish people would stop being racist and give respect to whom it's deserved, regardless of whether the fighter's black or white.
JC is not questioned b/c of his race. It's his resume and fighting style. Whether that is right or wrong is left to opinion.

I am a white cheeseburger eating American. I honestly think I am right when I say when a white hope pops up they get more hype and fanbase b/c the majority of boxing fans with money are white. I'm not dogging mexicans or blacks but the dollar controls everything, that applies for most aspects of life. Kelly Pavlik, an exciting, well deserved champion, has a huge fan base that accrued in a short amount of time. I love KP. I also think if he was black he would have less fans, the percentage is debateable. People naturally identify TO AN EXTENT with their own race. All you have to do is look around American society and easily see that. Calzaghe had way more white Americans pulling for him than Hop. I rooted for Hop b/c I don't care for JC much as a fighter, this would probably be different if I was a Brit. I just don't see how you can think the boxing public is against white fighters, as it appears completely the opposite to me.
I think you believe a division must be shitty if the best fighter is white, am I correct?
Because Lewis was champ, and he wasn't white, it was good - now that Wlad is the best, it is shitty.
And super middleweight must be shitty since Calzaghe is white.
That SEEMS TO BE YOUR LOGIC, but I don't agree with it because it is racist.
Your doing bad with your logic when you play the race card. If anything white fighters get more publicity and following. Ever heard of the "Great White Hope"? Next your gonna tell me Barry Bonds can't get a DH job because he's black.
LOL joe wanted bhop ages ago but bhop fuked it up instead fighting someone else for less money hahah anyways he could of fought other guys back in his hay day but he had a bad promotor and a few deals fell through.
Joe has fought the best at super middlewieght fact!
Margarito might be limited but he fights the best, cant say the same about that slapping bitch who has fought nobody apart from a 44 year old man in Hopkins who he didn't even beat
Margarito has fought:
Clottey, Cintron, Williams and is fighting Cotto next while the overprotected stay-at-home joe is thanking the judges for giving him a gift decision against a fighter who is well past his best days.
I wanted to see where he trained when I went to Tiajuana last year but the town is so sketch I didn't want to stray far from the border. One thing you will never hear is complaints about Mexican fighters slapping like bitches or ducking, I'm sure there is one or two but I can't think of them. Mexican boxers are f'ing soldiers.
- Calzaghe has never been KOed. Lewis was knocked out twice by B level fighters!
- Calzaghe has a far greater number of consecutive successful title defenses than Lewis!
- Calzaghe is a a two division Ring champion, Lewis was in only one!
Joe Calzaghe, if you look at it fairly and without prejudice, is a greater fighter than Lennox Lewis. :biggthump
Calzaghe fought in a weak division whereas in Heavyweights they are so big and strong that anyone can win if they connect with a hard lucky punch. Lennox Lewis was a HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! He couldn't move to cruiserweight and he couldn't move up. He was a huge Mofo naturally. Fought around 250 that's swoll patrol. It was funny on HBO before the fight started when they showed Calzaghe's notable wins is was Kessler, Lacy, and Peter "the contender" Manfredo. This will make no sense to you, but you remind me of Kansas City Royals fans who are just certain that the franchise has a better history than the STL cardinals and will come up with some whack shite to back it up.
i like both fighter alot. i couldn't care less if either was noted as the best ever from across the pond, but i am hard pressed to say joe ducked anyone. he cleaned out most of the guys at smw. if kessler could not beat him i don't see anyone else at 68 doing it. at 75 i think he may have problems with a tarver, or dawson. i feel joe is not well suited for 75 as 68. at 68, aside roy he is the best i have ever seen. instead of all the bashing he recieves some of the haters should really sit back and enjoy the end of a very good fighters career.
Yeah because the division was great, full of great fighters right? :ugh:
Agree. Lots of smaller fighters like Hop, PBF get alot of clout for winning in multiple weight divisions, I guess calzaghes gets twenty five cents for moving up when he naturally would weigh more and beating a gassed fighter. A true heavyweight doesn't have that option.
Yes, 10000 points? Or 20000 if you like. I'll sig it...
sure, Ill take it. hey, lets have it that Ill give you 10000 if Wlad wins, 20000 if he knocks out Tony. that sounds more original, haha. same thing for Tony, if hell freezes over and he somehow knocks out Wlad I get 20000
I think Super Middle is pretty deep now although it doesn't have the deepest history. I don't think Light Heavy is particularly strong at the moment, as detailed above. It's mostly past prime fighters battling each other for a shot at their last million in the bank. Middleweight is a shambles. Aside from Pavlik you'd struggle to find a top fighter. Winky Wright has had better days. Arthur Abraham was considered a loser in his fight with Miranda by almost everyone. Who else do we have? Felix Sturm? John Duddy?
Super Middle is where it's at right now in that region with Lucien Bute, Mikkel Kessler, Jermaine Taylor, Edison Miranda, Anthony Mundine etc.
absolutely, Super Middle is actually very deep right now, while Middle isnt very deep and Light Heavy is a little bit stale. all we need is for the damn guys to actually start fighting each other at 168 and we would probebly have a hell of a division.
Who looks better in the ring - Wlad or Thompson, your favorite fighter, with his "ear-muffs" style? Povetkin or Thompson? Boytsov or Thompson?geez, why does every assume that just because someones a fan of a fighter means that they think theyre the best? Ive said multiple times that Tony aint nothing special, Im his fan because he got started in boxing late, seems like a nice guy, and has no other fans. Povetkin looks slightly better than Tony, and Boytsov looks like in the future he will be better than him as well. Just because Im a fan of a fighter doesnt mean Im delusional about them.
oh yea, you still want that bet?
Light Heavy has better quality fighters though even if they are past their prime.
Hopkins > Bute
Calzaghe > Kessler
Dawson > Taylor
Tarver > Miranda
Jones Jr > Lacy
Johnson > Froch
Woods > Bika
Erdei > Mundine
I don't think Woods could beat Bika. I'm not sure Dawson could beat Taylor for that matter though I can see something of Taylor in Dawson - same level of uncertainty. Hopkins would probably beat Bute, but he may be retiring very soon. And while Tarver would beat Miranda and Roy Jones Jr would beat a destroyed Lacy Kessler would in all likelihood beat anyone at light heavy right now with the exception of Hopkins and Calzaghe.

you always seem to think that everything has to do with race. it really isnt man. look...these are the HW contenders today
these are them in Lennox Lewis's time
honestly, who do you think looks better? It really has nothing to do with white or black.
and the Super Middle division is a very new division, thats all. it still was when Eubank and Benn were in it, too. it doesnt have half the depth that Middleweight or Light Heavy have.
I didn't say he punched like a girl. I've never called him Calslappy. You're confused, wrong dude
To be honest the second part of my post was directed at the topic starter, not you. Sorry for the confusion.
You can play the "who has he beaten" game with any fighter. Who has Lennox beaten? Shannon Briggs? Old Holyfield? Older Tyson? Vitali Klitschko? Fact is that when comparing great heavyweights to other great fighters the heavyweights always have something of an advantage in that it is possible to fight everyone in your weight class without any ommissions. So Calzaghe didn't fight Roy Jones Junior or James Toney. Both those guys left his weight division in no time at all. So he took this long to fight Hopkins? Hopkins was a middleweight. Because it is relatively easier for fighters to change divisions then some guys will leave weight divisions in search of multiple weightclass titles and be accused of ducking fighters who stayed put (Mayweather is an example) while other guys will stay in the one division racking up the defenses for a long time and be accused of ducking guys a class above or below them (like Kostya Tszyu to stick with the 140 lb theme). The heavyweights have no such phenomenon. If a guy doesn't fight all the top guys as a heavyweight he has no excuses and no reason not to. Lewis fought everyone just as Calzaghe would have fought everyone if there was only one weight division.
Incidentally the Super Middleweight division is looking extremely strong at the moment, far stronger than light heavyweight which consists of Old Hopkins, crap Tarver, overrated Dawson, robbed Johnson and untested Erdei as well as Calzaghe.

I dont have a problem with anyone saying that Calzaghe has the better career, because after all he probebly is the #1 Super Middle of all time while Lennox is but in the top 10 of all time heavyweights, but
1. Lennox avenged both those losses in brutal fashion, and they werent bums either
2. Successful title defences means little, especially in this day and age with all the alphabet belts. We should look at who they beat. Otherwise Ottke>Calzaghe, which is completely unfair.
3. Just because a person is a champ in two weight classes doesnt mean they necessarily have a better career than someone who stays in one weight class.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Come on now dont be silly, do you really think Lewis would have beaten quality opponents like Omar Sheikha or Peter Manfredo? I mean Calzaghe beat Jeff "LOL" Lacy, Mikkel "Shennel" Kessler and just barely got past a 43 year old Hopkins and as Calzaghe's fans said that guy made a living beating smaller guys, Ironic how Calzaghe had difficult beating a guy who did that.
I mean David Starie and Richie Woodhall!!! or Pudwill, Salem and Mitchell!!!!
How dare you compare the "Great" Calzaghe with a "Great" resume against Lennox :ugh: Calzaghe cleaned out the division facing one of the best in Evans Ashira, Sakio Bika and Mario veit.
What are you talking about???? I'm defending Lennox Lewis.:ugh: :owned:
