From BBC sport:
Promoter Dennis Hobson believes that Clinton Woods may have been suffering from a strain of meningitis during his world title defeat to Antonio Tarver.
Hobson has ordered a series of blood tests for Woods after one his friends, who travelled with him to Tampa for the fight, was diagnosed with the virus.
Woods was easily outpointed as he lost his IBF light-heavyweight title.
Hobson told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Even if he hadn't had the full blown virus, he could have had some sort of effect."
Hobson is waiting for the results with interest as a virus would explain the Sheffield fighter's lethargic performance in Florida.
"It gets your mind boggling, has it had an affect? You don't know if Clinton has had a milder version of this virus," said Hobson.
I doubt it!!!
FFS guys, read a post before judging.
He, Clinton Woods, DID not say this, or release this.
Stop saying it was in evitable, if he'd have performed like we've seen he can against Johnson, he's have won. By his standards he didn't show up, had a lack of fire about him, which is not like him. It perplexed slightly, commentators, viewers, and fans.
This would be a logical explanation, having some underlying symptoms of a bug someone in his camp had.
Let's just await the blood results and leave it at that.
Woods did very little offensively. He must be kicking himself now!! He should have gone to the body early and taken what little stamina tarver had!
That fight proper annoys me and it's not like I even like Woods.
Virus or no virus Tarver was always going to beat him. Stop making bullshit excuses and move on.
Woods looked horrible though. Tarver is pretty much there for the taking for the top guys, his stamina was through the floor after about 5 rounds, thats without woods doing anything.
Woods aint saying it though, it's his promoter?
Good point, my bad!! Will be interesting to see the results because he did look completely uninterested!
Yeh someone in the camp had it, so it is entirely possible. They should've waited for the results of Clintons blood test. Probs best people don't speculate until then.
I like Woods but he really should just admit it was a shit performance rather than come up with all these excuses!
I can't remember which fight it was after (RJJ / G Johnson) but after losing he claimed that doctors found out he was anemic and needed more vitamins etc. than he complained he nutrition was wrong!! seems like excuses, i din't expect that from him!!
