Look at the first big shot, u'll know it.
How the fuck did Taylor take that. IT nailed him flush in the face. That was a massive right hand.
I have a new theory about that first fight. I think Taylor was fiercely discouraged and frustrated that dispite throwing everything at Pavlik, Pavlik wasnt going anywhere, and he mentally checked out
im a fan of both and taylor earned a lot of respect from me in the 2nd fight. my heart went out 2 him in the post fight interview he looked like he really thought he won and was close to tears. i hope he bounces back and carries on making moves in the boxing world
Pavlik has a high workrate also and Jermain didn't crumble and Pavlik has much more power than Joe. It is hard to put out a high work rate against Jermain just like it is against Hopkins. If Joe beats Jermain, he will do it with using his lefty stance to his advantage as Jermain hates fighting lefties.
If he fights jermain like he did hopkins though he will lose. Joe will have to fight Jermain very smart to beat him as jumping in and flailing will not serve him well.
I reckon JC would have a much easier time with Jermain. Hopkins' style is just a nightmare for most, barely anyone except Jones has looked OK against him because he spoils, holds, butts, and all the other usual tricks.
Calzaghe-Hopkins was absolutely the worst performance from Calzaghe I've ever witnessed and I give credit to Hops for making it that way, as much as I dislike his spoiler style. It frustrates the hell out of me just watching him, so I imagine it's 100 times worse if you're in the ring with the dude.
I'd imagine Jermain is much easier to deal with. He fights a much cleaner fight, doesn't constantly hold, rush at you head first, back-peddle, and he certainly doesn't intentionally butt and foul from what I've seen. I have a lot of time for Taylor. Great boxer. Shame about his stamina issues.

Thanks bro. I think I noticed that about 2 months ago
Whoa.. that Was borderline Catastrophic Shot!
Taylor took it very well.
He did at that. It was a combination of his ability to take a great shot, being fresh early in the fight and it landing high on his head that he took it so well. That was simply an atomic bomb of a punch.
Serious? Taylor couldn't take Pavlik's pace. He'd crumble under the intense work rate of Calzaghe, IMO.

The best thing about that fight was how good Taylor was using his jab. He had abandoned it since the Hopkins fights it seemed, and he was really hitting Kelly flush with his jab in that fight, when he threw it. Towards the end he didn't throw as many, but the fact that he used his jab a lot told me that he really was very focused for the fight, and stuck to his game plan.
I hope that these losses don't get JT down, he still has sooo much potential left at 168. Pavlik can rule at 160 and hopefully Taylor can take over 168 when Joe's gone (for good). Taylor vs. Pavlik III for the SMW titles? End of 2009/Beginning of 2010?
Good post. I still think Taylor has much more to do in boxing, and I think he can take 168. Another Pavlik fight down the road doesn't sound too bad either.
And i would pick Taylor over Calzaghe by clear decision any day of the week

Good post. It was a close fight. I was leaning towards Taylor, but I didn't have a problem with the decision. I was hoping he would let his hands go more. He does have stamina issues it seems, and I'm sure he didn't want to get in a lot of exchanges and risk getting drilled, but he did seem a bit too tentative.
Pavlik's power would make anyone tentative. I thought Taylor fought the second fight great.
I suppose he did give Hopkins big problems and Hopkins gave Calzaghe big problems.
I just don't think his style could beat Joe ..
We won't know till they get in the ring I suppose. Taylor is incredibly gifted and has the tools to beat anyone IMO as long as his head is on straight.
Well when he did throw he wasnt landing flush at all. He landed his hardest shots when he took his time and set it up and thats probably what they trained to do.
He has also stamina issues it seems, and he was probably afraid he would be out of energy in the later rounds.
AND, If you become Middleweight champ with wins over Hopkins and a Draw with Wright... u arent a "wasted talent"
The kid is still young, he has a long while yet. The Trinidad fight should be exciting

Taylor will give anyone up to Light Heavy nightmares in the ring. He has the best jab around, great hand speed and power.
You never heard the last of Jermain, he just might be the man at super middle now. Time will tell.

I beg your pardon?

Tired or not, I had Taylor 7-5 against Pavlik. He should have won.
It was a tough fight to score as some rounds were really close. Taylor had the ring generalship, but Pavlik did more work in there and closed strong. The fight was really tough fight and although I had Pavlik winning, I can see why someone would have it close the other way also.
i thought Paavlik won too but it was close. Pavlik tried to box to much, he shoulda tried to make it a brawl. Taylor had the clear advantage on the outside
And i would pick Taylor over Calzaghe by clear decision any day of the week

He is. He regained a lot of respect from me in both fights with Pavlik. He showed incredible heart in both of them. For a while there before meeting Pavlik in the ring, he seemed to lost his desire. He will do some serious damage at super middle.
I scored the second fight 7 round to 5 for Pavlik. Jermain could have won it but he got tired near the end.

The second fight to me looked like Taylor could have won and easily if he threw more punches. I still had him winning, but he didn't do it decisively as he should have. He's waaaaaaaay too tentative as a fighter. Wasted talent.
