does any1 else feel this fight failed to meet expectations?
I mean this was 1 of the most boring fights I've seen, and because we were expecting so much, from the pre fight hype, and the circumstances surrounding this fight, I feel it was a terrible fight, and it left me very uninspired..
I was hoping it wouldn't be a boring fight, but it turned out to be just that.
Next time fights get this hyped up , I won't be paying much attention, but rather make a judgement after the fight has finished.
I was a neutral fan in that fight, not a fan of either boxers,so you could imagine how boring it would have been to watch, but I have to say Calzaghe would have beat up Hopkins a lot more if it wasn't for Hopkins clinching every time.
As for Hopkins' career, I wonder if his dirty tactics have played a big part in bringing him so many wins over his long career. Was he a legend or, was he just smart in using cheap tricks to get the (W).
Fight was brutal to watch, sloppy as fuck and very anticlimactic but I'm glad Hopkins lost. If he would have won that sloppy ass fight there might have been a rematch and nobody wants to see that again.
It takes two to make a fight unfortunatly only one real boxer turned up. the other was more like a wrestler. Hold and tie him up he cant knock you out.
partly agree, i dont think he came to "fight". Hopkins came to win by any way necessary and that was the tactics he employed because he knew it would make Joe look bad.
Cortez should of been firmer as it became a joke the amount that Bernard counter punched, followed with the head and into a clinch to avoid being tagged back. He didnt even try fight on the inside! he just tied Joe up and waited on the ref to split them.
That was my take on it anyway, On another day Hopkins could have stolen a decision with those tactics but saturday was Joe's Day
The fight was boring because Joe Cortez failed to split the fighters and allowed Hopkins to clinch/hold at every opportunity....... If the holding had been stopped then hopkins would have been as bashed up as Lacy was. At least Lacy came to fight. Hopkins sucks.
The fight played out just as I thought it would...first time in a long time I can say that.
I didn't think Hopkins would be busy enough for Calzaghe, and Calzaghe would land enough slaps to win.
It was what I expected....sadly.

Are you new to boxing or something???.......I hate to burst your bubble but a lot of big hyped up fights end up that way......especially those that involve Bernard Hopkins! He was never gonna let that fight get open and frenetic he can't handle to pace.
I have said over and over from the day the fight was made that it would be the ugliest, most boring fight you could imagine between two great fighters. Not a suprise to me at all. Hopkins HAD to fight that way to have a chance to win.
Agree totally. People should have realised that Hopkins was gonna do what he did. I personally dont find that to be excusable, I though Hopkins was a sick joke to be honest. He is a really dirty fighter and an incredibly boring fighter. Had Calzaghe not been coming forward Hopkins would have been content to go backwards all night even if the crowd had been booing since round 2 onwards. He doesnt give a shit and that is why I have been saying for the last 2 or 3 years that the guy is bad for boxing. A neutral watching that would have turned off after round 3.
In saying that Calzaghe didnt impress me either. He was far too confident going in, got fucking chinned in the first and proceeded to make the same mistakes Hatton made against Mayweather. He should have known that lunging in and missing was only gonna end in a clintch.
Hopkins doesnt make fighters fight his fight out of skill. They fight his fight because they feel the need to go forward or face boos from the crowd. They have to make the fight against him because he is such a negative boring cunt. Absolutely hate Hopkins (as im sure you can tell), have dont for some time now and I hope he fucking retires. Everyone is going on about a great effort from a 43 year old. I dont know, I found it to be very soul destroying to be honest. He did fuck all but go back and hug, headbutt and arm lock from round 4 on.
