Pavlik could hurt Joe very badly.
Joe has one of the best chins in boxing, Pavlik won't hurt him. Add to that Pavlik's mediocre boxing "skills", and you have to put him firmly in the "snowballs chance in hell" pile.....
I voted Pavlik. Whereas Lacy was largely untested, Pavlik has beaten the man who beat the man, twice. If Joe does a job on Pavlik (which he would) anybody who claims Pavlik was untested doesn't really have much of an arguement. RJJ at this point might as well be an exhibition, that is how much sway it has on the boxing world. Sure, it could be a great fight, and will provide Joe with another marquee name on his resume, but it's the wrong choice for Joe. RJJ is old, and Pavlik is somewhat untested, but RJJ's age and ever decreasing skill levels mean that the Pavlik fight is the fight that makes the most sense.
Pavlik called out Calzaghe after his points victory over Taylor... Pavlik is the harder option, he's fighter in his prime and Calzaghe will have to drop two weight divisions... You make no sense.
That makes no sense?!?!?!?
Pavlik is the easier fight.
But.... Roy Jones would come over here. Roy also want to fight him. So on balance Roy, and the fact I would go.
I'm sure Warren would prefer Pavlik that guy is made for Joe.

i fink pavlike wud make a more exciting fight as he comes forward and has great power but jones experience speed technique and ability would give calzaghe more problems
If he wants to test himself, if he wants to fight a fighter at his peak, if he wants what WE want he'll opt for Pavlik. If he wants a big paycheck to KO a once-great, now chinless former champion he'll fight Jones.
Calzaghe is a no win situation. He faces a younger and undefeated fighter, if he beats him then people would say he beat a smaller fighter. Or he could opt to fight RJJ, an older fighter, if he beats him people would downplay his win as he's past his prime.
That's just the way it is for Joe unfortuantly.
Like i said earlier, Roy Jones looks better on the resume.
There's a catch twenty two in nearly everything involving boxing.
If Joe beats Pavlik, people will say he beat a MW.
Joe said he only wants big money fights from now on in. I reckon there's more Money to be had for Joe if he fights RJJ instead of Pavlik?

There has to be. Roy Jones is Roy Jones.
But Pavlik is the great white American hope. I'm sure that's worth a lot of money. It's a shame his great grandfather wasn't Irish.
But if he beats him, then people would say he was past his prime and get no recognition.

Pavlik makes more sense. A current true title holder who beat a current champ just like Joe did at the weight that Joe made his mark in. Pavlik is also the far more dangerous.
The RJJ match is not at all intersting to me.
I'd say Pavlik because he is yet to be beat. It's close though, Name vs Undefeated streak. If Pavlik turns out to be shit after his fight with Joe then he becomes another Lacy while Roy Jones is Roy Jones...
I'm not sure Pavlik is so similar to Kessler, Kelly's stance is fairly unique imo and might trouble Joe, it wouldn't give him the open ness to get in these, and into the angles he likes. He's another awkward customer I think.
why is pavlik the easier fight??? explain???
He comes forward and gets hit, Joe can get reckless when he has to find an opponent and gets hit by a shots he doesn't see coming. Joe has already been in with a similarish fighter to Pavlik in Kessler and figured him out. I can't see what Pavlik does better than Kessler and whilst a huge middleweight he is still that a middleweight, Kessler probably should be campaigning at light heavy. Pavlik is a straight puncher and predominately comes in in straight lines. He has excellent power at middleweight but it might not carry to where a potential fight with Joe would take place.
Roy Jones is an excellent counterpuncher when he wants to be and this only guy out there with better handspeed than Joe, he will also be harder to hit that Pav. His winky impression in the Trinidad fight was not half bad.
Roy JJ. A true longer term American legend, with similarities to Joe and the greater possibilities for a magnificent fight.
I don't see the point in Joe struggling to go so low in weight again, to fight only with a risk to lose his SMW titles. Let Kessler or someone take him on at an un tested weight if Pavlik really wants to.
