No more fucking about. You think Hopkins won? You think Calzaghe won?
Put your eternal soul on it right here and now! :firedevil
If you are lying you will be damned, and don't think this is a game.
Don't you fucking think that! Don't you fucking think that!
Vote in the poll, that's all you need do. But do it sober, this is the real thing.
I hae watched the fight three times now and each time I have scored the fight 114 - 113 for Calzaghe. I simply do not see how you can give more than five rounds to Hopkins. I think it is clear to everyone that Hopkins was the fighter who was landing the harder, cleaner punches, but that is only one area for consideration when scoring a round.
With the category of ring generalship the only round that I think you could concievably say that Hopkins was the ring general was the first. Every other round Calzaghe was the boxer dominating the centre of the ring and keeping Hopkins backed up against the ropes. This fact would have no doubt have caught the judges eyes, as it did mine.
Now for what I believe may well be the most contentious category, effective aggression. For me, the first, second and ninth rounds were the only rounds where Hopkins could be favoured in this area. The word aggression and Hopkins should never be associated with each other. On Saturday night Hopkins gave us one of the most negative and defensive performances of recent years so I don't really understand how he expected he be awarded marks for effective aggression. Of course people will argue that Calzaghe was not effective in his aggression, but I would disagree. Calzaghe had Hopkins covering up and clinching throughout the fight and that for me was a sign of Joe's effectiveness.
In the area of defense, I felt both fighters showed plenty of skill. I came to the conclusion this area was pretty even, with both fighters showing good head movement and neat footwork to avoid potential punishment.
Now for clean punching. This is the area where Hopkins bossed it. No question about it that he landed the more telling blows. Hopkins dominance in this field is reflected in my scorecard as I gave him a couple of rounds (round 4 and round 7) just because of a couple of hard straight rights he landed, albeit in quiet rounds. But, this was not enough. Calzaghe was the fighter who was pushing the action and trying to engage and I felt he was rewarded with a throughly deserved win.
This is it? This is your reasoning? This is your argument for Hopkins winning a fight in which he landed half the punches his opponent did? This is the justification? A poll which you are losing?
And atheists do not believe in souls, eternal or otherwise so threatening me with being "claimed" spiritually is like me threatening you with the closet monster.
What shame.. I left at the wrong time.
This isn't about winning a poll, squealpiggy. :firedevil
I'm telling you right now I don't give a flying fuck if you believe in God or the Devil. That doesn't matter one iota. Let me be crystal clear about that.
You have presented yourself here. First you hesitate and now you disclaim.
You're acting like a true believer. Something must be telling you something..
It doesn't matter of you are an atheist, squealpiggy.
Are you soul-less? Let's hope not for your sake.
We will all be claimed, spiritually, eventually.
I must say.. It's amusing to see these reactions.
The truth is something more powerful than thinking. It is felt.

I'm an atheist but I voted Calzaghe anyway. I checked boxrec first though to be safe. Pascal's Wager innit.

Hopkins was the worst boxer I have ever witnessed (on the night) - he didnt come to fight he came to spoil - he got outworked and even took some of his own punishment. With all of his hype I thought he was going to get at Joe.
I even feared the worst after Joe went down in the first - why didnt he pressure him or go for the finish?? He just sat back and tried to spoil!!
I didn't see a single round that you HAD to give Hopkins. There were about six you had to give to Calzaghe.
Some of you are just bitter and so giving every even round to Hopkins. It has to be something to do with deeply ingrained stereotypes resisting what your eyes see.
What stereotypes?

Heres an objective opinion. I'm a Brit, a Calzaghe fan who bet money that Hopkins would win on points. I like them both and am not biased either way....my bet was only based on the fact that I thought in a close fight Hopkins would get the nod.
On a round by round basis I had Hopkins at least a round ahead up till after round ten. I gave Calzaghe the last two rounds making him a narrow points winner.
BUT.......I felt the rounds Hopkins won were far superior to the rounds Calzaghe shaded. I also felt Hopkins was much stronger and had greater punch power. I didn't feel Calzaghe won any rounds big.
I also felt Hopkins whining didn't go down too well, the low blows were innocuous looking affairs.
I felt under the present scoring system the right man won but feel Hopkins produced the more eyecatching work, just not consistently enough after round six.
Good post. And your vote is respected.
Not just a talker, I admire that. :fing02:
