I was even foolish enough to think this fight could produce a new P4P king along with a lot of people on this board granted that the fight met its expectations.
I wanna see the general consensus on this now.
Also worth considering, Joe Calzaghe won by a split decision, and was even knocked down during the fight.
Mayweather ko'd Hatton, won SD to DLH without being knocked down.
Cotto KO'd Judah, UD'd Mosley and last week KO'd Gómez (who could not being KO'd by Calzaghe's victim, Mr. Manfredo).
Fuckin el, cant believe this is even up for discussion, Fucking joel casamayor is more skilled than Calzaghe, beat better fighters than calzaghe, fought better fighters than calzaghe.
Rafeal Marquez is far more skilled than calzaghe, and moved up a division to fight the man 3 times in his primes.
Calzaghe is p4p, but number 1 or even 2 is just silly.
You are right regarding Lacy as a good contender at the time (no "next Mike Tyson" by any stretch though)... but it's 2008 and that is a 2006 fight. Cotto defeated Judah and Mosley... and a year has not passed. I think this is about being the best P4P fighter, 2008.
Judah and moseley are shit these days
I can understand your point, and it's a valid one, but I'm afraid the part in bold is one of the most rediculous things I have ever seen.
Lacy was the up and coming champion, the "next Mike Tyson" and Kessler was as prime as he is ever going to be. Hopkins was 43, granted, but he was in the best physical shape I have seen him in a long time. He also produced what I would class as one of his best ever performances. Hopkins might not have been in his prime, but his performance was top drawer and Calzaghe was made to work very hard.

I should have clarified that what I said is regarding to the P4P top ten, April 2008. Thought the context of the post was enough.

Nard was 3rd or 4th on most peoples p4p lists. End of story
The competition at WW is tougher right now, and not only that, Shane Mosley (who's younger than Hopkins and just a shade older than Calzaghe) is the only "old guy" in the mix. Quintana, Williams, Margarito, Mayweather, Cotto, Clottey, are either in their prime, or close to their prime. Hopkins, Calzaghe, Tarver, Johnson, Taylor are not in their prime. Only Pavlik and Miranda are in their prime. Look at Jr WW (where Cotto and Mayweather also fought) and you will find Malignaggi, Torres and Hatton, also in their prime.
So yes, both Cotto and Mayweather should be ahead of Calzaghe in a P4P list, because they are both in their prime and have defeated their opposition in their prime or closer to their prime than Calzaghe's opponents.

Sorry?
Hopkins didnt want to fight so how can you look good.
Hopkins had just beat Tarver (new IBF champ) and Winky Wright.
Calzaghe 11yr champion beat Kessler beat Hopkins and you want Cotto ahead?

It still doesn't account for the fact that he did not want to throw for the first 6 rounds of the fight really. And was dropped in the first round. Cotto has looked great in all of his recent fights. Did you see him destroy Judah? Outclass Mosley? P4P for me also has to do with performance and how you look. Not always about who you beat and how he beat someone else. Lacy and Kessler were good performances though. He didn't or hasn't looked as good as Cotto. Sorry we don't agree. :cop:
Very tight imo. 2 is definitely warranted. He's going to face a big opponent next, if he wins that he's no. 1 I think. Esp if Floyd picks another fight he's expected to clearly win.
I can not put him ahead of Cotto. Similar type of big fights. Cotto did to Mosley what Cal should have done to Hopkins and that's win in impressive fashion.
