Calzaghe used to be warm to the idea of a Pavlik fight...but he seemed to be favoring a fight w/ Roy Jones now
Personally i think Pavlik would honestly beat Calzaghe in what would be the most exciting fight i could imagine (both fighters throw around 100 punches a round).
Both fighters styles basically need to fight coming foward (Pavlik moreso than Joe)...and Joe's power did not look very sharp this fight...and given that Pavlik has incredible power, an incredible chin, and long reach I think Pavlik would be pushing Calzaghe back....and the second Jermain Taylor fight shows that Pavlik can hang w/ class A boxers....Joe needs to be busy to win fights and i do not think he could push Kelly back to be more busy and calzaghe throws a lot of punches leaving himself open....I personally think Pavlik by KO
On the other hand you have Roy Jones who has lost three times to Antonio Tarver (yes i said three times) and once to Glen Johnson since he came back.........a win against an inactive trinidad fighting at two weight classes higher than the unnatural middleweight division in which Hopkins completely exposed him (like Winky Wright and the first 7 rounds of De la hoya did as well) that he has a horrible chance of winning against class A boxers..... does not! deserve Calzaghe's last fight man!
Roy Jones vs. Hopkins (Lightheavy weight)
Calzaghe vs. Pavlik (super middleweight)
What do u guys think?
Hell, Joe isn't scared of Pavlik he has 1 fight left and then he retires. Calzaghe would beat Pavlik pretty easily to be honest. Pavlik fights the same way Kessler does. Pavlik's power wouldn't be as effective at SMW or LHW either although it would still have an effect.
Calzaghe is just too experienced for the young Pavlik. The logic of the tread starter is that because Joe will fight RJJ then he is afraid of Pavlik, ergo, If Joe will fight Pavlik then he is afraid of RJJ. That is the logic of this thread :lol1:
Calzaghe just won a fight against a legend who is way past his prime. He'll way his options and see it's not worth getting his ass kicked by Pavlik and will instead slap around another has been fighter with a low punch output.BHOP being way past his prime is subjective and a very vague term. Both kessler and lacy are prime fighters when they were beaten by calz convincingly. I cannot say that calz won this one convincingly and it could have gone either way. And you know why? Because there is no way BHOP is way past his prime.

Calzaghe just won a fight against a legend who ruled the middleweight division for a decade and he is afraid of pavlik because he seems to be bent on fighting RJJ? What kind of fuckin statement is that?

I don't think it quite does. It was apparent the Hop was trying to conserve his energy. He's never been a high volume puncher but tonight was a decrease. No matter what hop says, age takes a toll, especially when you're seven from fifty.
If you actually seen the fight it doesnt, but in history you will see that Joe has a win over Hopkins is what i mean.
Ive given Joe his props for lasting 12 rounds with a legend and making it competive, but to say he has power is absurd, lets be real. Bernard Hopkins on his resume legitimizes Joe, so no need to name off people like B.Mitchell like that proves something.

That's beating a legend there.
I think Calzaghe's power is an open debate. In his early career his reputation was built on being a puncher, so I think that's why Mitchell is being mentioned. Joe had tons of broken hands and wrists so he hasn't punched hard for a long time. Even if he used to have power, I guess we might as well say he doesn't anymore.
Seriously, I'm glad you see him as legitimate now. Peace.

I was indifferent to both fighters going into this. I've seen BHop fight more and his style is kinda boring to the average eye. Calzaghe rubbed me the wrong way tonight. I don't know what body shots you're talking about. He gets NOTHING behind his punches. Hop was never hurt. Because he asks for a cold towel that means his body hurts??? It made me want to puke all over myself watching Calzaghe drop his hands like a prime roy jones, raise his hands between every round, and wiggle his ass after the low blow. Do that shit when you are decisiviley winning. Instead he made himself look like an idiot. And it's hard to be the idiot when your fighting someone like Hopkins who runs his mouth 24/7 before fights.
Unbelievable that just hours after Joe becomes a two weight world champion, against a top 10 p4p fighter, we're back to these same arguments about Calzaghe's record and resume.
Let go of the hype, the anger at his win, being a fan of another fighter, and just give the man his dues.
I promise you, you'll feel better afterwards.

Byron Mitchell? enough said, if youre using his name to legitimize Calzaghe's power.

He didn't hurt him? Then why did hopkins keep crying to his corner to put ice on his body? Calzaghe landed some nice body shots and we all know he throws hard body shots, Kessler felt them and so did Hopkins tonight. And we already know that Calzaghe slaps, his hands are broken and he holds back because of it. But if you even watch his older fights you would see that easily hurt his opponents like byron mitchell with those called slaps, hell if they let that fight go on Calzaghe probably would have killed Mitchell.

this just begs the question how bad are lacy and kessler wow what a weak division
The guy really does slap. There was about fifteen people watching the fight tonight and the drunk guys who really could give two shits about boxing were making fun of the way/form JC delivers his punches. He never hurt Hopkins once. I'm tired of hearing from his homer fans, "Oh well his hands are injured." Who gives a damn? Slaps are slaps no matter how many or how fast they are thrown. I hope to god he fights pavlik. The ghost will be an underdog and I will put everyfucking dollar I have on him. You think JC takes Pavliks punches for 12 rounds or will slap his way to a decision??? I hope to god this fights get mad but it'll probably be jones which blows cock.

Pavlik, i believe wants to defend his belt at 160 which he has the right to do, its not fair that people want to see him gain 15 pounds to fight a guy that slaps a 1000 times a fight. Calzaghe, earned the right to fight for big money so if he fights Jones Jr, i dont see a problem with that. True fans know who got beat up tonight so its not like Calzaghe earned the name as the man to beat.
Well said my thoughts exactly. I would love to see this fight. I don't mind the slapper slapping roy jones to death. Make your money and retire with you 'precious' undefeated record.
Aaah! Joe said that in the immediate aftermath of the fight, who knows which fight he really prefers or even believes can be made.
It is ridiculous to think that Joe would be scared of Pavlik, he just got through 12 rounds with Bernard Hopkins!
Joe did not look impressive tonight, but no fighter ever has against Hopkins. Hopkins is a nightmare, yet Joe still won. The man you are saying is scared of Kelly is the career undefeated SMW and LHW champ! Pavlik would be a much easier fight for Joe than Hopkins, since Joe would actually be able to fight his own fight and you would quickly see that everything Kelly has, Joe has more of, with the possible exception of power. Joe has one of the best chins in boxing and took harder shots from Mikkel Kessler than Pavlik could ever dish out.
For whoever it was that now says Kessler is a bum for losing to Joe when Joe just looked so bad against Hopkins, I can only suggest that you become a fan of boxing and actually watch some fights involving the fighters you are discussing. Before you say you have, let me tell you something:
If you had seen Kessler fight against anyone other than Joe you would not even dream of calling him a bum.
If you had seen Calzaghe fight anyone other than B-Hop you would not even dream of picking Pavlik to beat him.
If you had seen Hopkins fight against anyone but Joe you would not dream of saying that Joe was a bad fighter because he struggled with him.
If you have seen more fights than I give you credit for and you still think all these things then you must be blind.
That is all.

Well......I guess a good option would be for Calzaghe to fight Roy jones and for Pavlik to fight Abraham.........then if Calzaghe and Pavlik both win....I think w/o a doubt if the money is right Calzaghe would mos def fight one more fight........Pavlik has already been complaining that he is having trouble making the weight at 160....and if he is able to get through Abraham (no easy task) then I think he would have completed everything he would want to do at middleweight and the Calzaghe fight would obviously be the one to go for
i personally think he is too fast for Pavlik and would make him look bad. It probably wasn't the best performance for Calzaghe but I give him credit for the win: he adjusted well in a dirty fight.
