Is Calzaghe getting hated on because he is white and boxers ducked him?

White fighters are definitely judged by a different standard than colored ones. It's generally accepted that White's are inferior athletes to blacks. That's why when a White fighter/athlete is successful he is labeled a "White hope, or overachiever" and the now classic way to explain the lack of current top black fighters is the "best boxers are playing in the NBA and NFL or this is the weakest era ever..." This is more true in America than in Europe. We don't have the black/white conflict that exists in the states.

Sure he does! Were you here on boxingscene the night Pavlik defeated Taylor for the second time? And I can't remember any more hate expressed toward a boxer as toward Wladimir on Feb 23, when he won a dominant decision and unified the heavyweight titles. IMO dislike of any fighter has a lot more to do with him being from outside the US rather than being white or black. Obviously there were some people here not liking Pavlik, but it is nowhere near the level of disdain for Calzaghe or especially Klitschko. Much of the American media is ridiculously unfair to Klitschko.

Nobody ducked frickin Calzaghe... I'm sure his fights with the legendary Mario Veit struck fear into every Supermiddleweight out there.

I'm not sure if hbo changed it, but like a year ago on hbos website on Joe Calzaghes profile it clearly said that Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr both asked for ridiculous amounts of cash to fight Calzaghe in the past before Calzaghe was a big name. So, clearly he was being ducked. I'm not making any of that up I don't know if anyone ducked anyone or not, but it would hardly be surprising if they had, would it? Why on earth would they want to fight an undefeated southpaw with an iron chin, (at the time) excellent punching power, second to none workrate and who earlier in his career had beaten Chris Eubank, a fighter RJJ even said he was reluctant to face. Throw in Calzaghe's absolute lack of profile and the fight becomes the very opposite of decent risk/ reward. ________ AND JEEP TRANSMISSIONS

Calzaghe is not even hated, the people who don't like him are Americans who are mostly Hopkins fans and have probably never seen Joe fight before. His personality might come across as little arrogant for some people especially when he keeps talking about the names he beat. Most Americans are not familiar with those names. Most people on these boards who know what they're talking about don't hate on Calzaghe at all, they respect him even if they're not a fan. As for the haters, I really don't think it's colour or his standard of opposition that causes it, it's just that they don't really know him as a fighter, and that they already have their own favourite, often Hopkins at the moment. Its the opposition that he's faced and him staying in the UK forever and him thinking he's an all-time great off of guys most ppl don't know threw out the U.S. He talks alot of shit as if he's beaten like 5 legends. I don't dislike the guy but some of that shit isn't warranted.
