and then the IGN article:
We got an early, pre-beta look at Prizefighter last week and came away with one word echoing in our heads: spectaculocity. While there's no true definition to the word that Don King uses to open the introductory cinematic to the game, we can't help but feel that it's an accurate summation for the overall tone of Prizefighter.
The core idea behind Prizefighter's career mode – something that was a bit of a bare bones effort in Fight Night Round 3 – is to deliver a documentary-style presentation that gives a retrospective look at a fighter that is supposed to be one of the sport's best. Throughout the 50 bouts that line the career mode you'll see around an hour of documentary footage. You'll hear Ken Norton rattle off a few lines about your tireless tenacity in the ring, Larry Holmes will chime in about your punching power, heck, even ex-girlfriends will show their mugs to talk about your away-from-the-ring shenanigans. From what we could tell the presentation felt authentic and worked well to push the story events forward.
Throughout your years in the ring there will be several hills to climb to ensure that your progression to the top continues on a steady course. Before some fights you'll incur injuries like breaking your hand. Your strategy will need to change in the ring to favor one side, something that will also affect how the AI tackles the bout. You'll also need to make decisions to balance the temptations of flashy media events like movie premieres and club openings with training sessions in the Fighter Factory to tune your boxing prowess. The more media functions you attend the better your public perception will be (thus your adrenaline will be higher in the fight) but your stamina will suffer.
Training, as it has been in basically every boxing in recent memory, is an important part of fight preparation and the gameplay as a whole. In Prizefighter the training options feature the usual offerings of hitting the speed bag, the standard punching bag and jumping rope; no word on the rest of the training mini-games. It appears that all of the activities take on a rhythm-based gameplay model that is similar to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Face buttons flow up a stream and need to be hit at a certain time. As you'd expect, progression slows as you advance in your career and the difficulty of each training activity ratchets up.
Fight Night was ridiculous, any game where a heavyweight could haymaker a middleweight 25-30 times clean with no pause before the middleweight was close to KO (no exceptions), needs some major fixing, i dont care if its early in the fight or not, almost nobody takes those shots
Yes, unfortunately I do think so.
I think all boxing games are too weak, basically. And this was even weaker than Fight Night.
I'm thinking about punching power of course.
Defence should play a far more important role and punching power should be able to fuck you up with one shot.
Not those silly Fight Night-hayemakers, but real good shots on the button.
Prizefighter is not fluid enough to offer a realistic boxing experience, so I think it will suck.
Yeah I hear what you're saying. If any game developers could give you the real simulation it's 2KSports. If this isn't as good as it should be hopefully with the next one they make will be better.
Im making Tyson.
Yeah I hope the creation part is better than fight night. Theres supposed to be 40 other boxers in it who are fictional... rumour has it though that they will be recognisable faces just with different names.
is pavlik in this?
Yeah
Heres a list of all the fighters:
* Heavyweight: Samuel Peter, Shannon Briggs, Andrew Golota, Sergei Liakhovich
* Cruiserweight: O’Neil Bell, Chad Dawson, Enzo Maccarinelli, Steve Cunningham
* Middleweight: Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik, Daniel Santos, Edison Miranda, Ricardo Mayorga, Arthur Abraham, Roman Karmazin
* Welterweight: Ivan Kirpa, Andrew Berto, Luis Collazo, Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr, Jose Luis Castillo
* Lightweight: Nate Campbell, Juan Diaz, Joan Guzman, Julio Diaz, Joel Cassamayor
* Featherweight: Chris John, Elio Rojas, Vic Darchinyan, Daniel Ponce de Leon, Juan Manual Marquez
* Classic Boxers: Archie Moore, Max Baer, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, James Braddock, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Larry Holmes, Joe Lewis, Rocky Marciano
all they would have to do is
1. Make stamina more of a factor
2. Make punches do more damage
3. Make recovery of 'life' during the match quicker
still, i get how they try to balance the game. I always liked FN 2004 the best
Yeah one of the huge problems with FN is the health bars are too small. If you're playing against comp you can end the fight within a round. Thats why I play online, real players have way better defence, more of a challenge.
anybody got fight night on 360?
my gamertag is out of credit at the moment so im using this one month trial 'calzaghe08' if anyone wants a fight sometime.

Another great vid Starjammer. I really excited about this game. And in one of the pics I actually saw blood flying when someone got hit instead of the blotches that the beta reviewers were talking about. I can't wait till it drops.
Yeah I like the sound of fast paced :) I wonder if a demo will come on the xbox live marketplace couple weeks before the release. That'd be nice :boxing:
You think so? I know the graphics won't be like Fight Night but I think the play control should be better. And the developer in teh vid said that it's fast paced.

It will suck. I was hoping for a great game, but it's due out in June. Too little time to fix up the animations and controls.

nice little interview with a 2k rep with some new pics and details.

The hate for a great fighter like calzaghe still exists. Of course the new screenshots show a lame ass fighter like Abraham landing a nice bomb on Calzaghe... :boxing:

No PS3 version = sucks, I have a 360 but i'm not going to pay $50 for the dumb live subscriptions when you already pay for internet and online gaming is free for ps3.. I guess I will have to pass/wait for Facebreaker to come out for a new boxing game, plus this looks like a bit of a low end boxing title.
Yeah that's pretty weak. There's time to change that like you said & hopefully they'll do that & actually show some real facial damage to an opponent that's taking a beating.
Yeah hope so man. How long will we have to wait for the next boxing game if they get this one wrong...
I have a feeling that some game review sites are going to score the game about a 7 or 8 for being slower than fight night and not having 'exciting' fights, but theyll be probabaly things we consider a positive thing. So if its an accurate sim, its gonna be a 9 or 10 for us fans :P
yeah i think they still have time to change some elements. The thing that annoys me is the scripted part of the career like where they say you will always break your hand at the third fight...random would be so much better. :(

Yeah, but look at all the other stuff they said was bad?
The facial damage only had red sploges? That's called swelling and it shows it wasn't over done.
Doesn't lack a thud in the punch? That's a good sign because they were probably excepting haymaker over haymaker.
It's still a beta so it's not the final product. Hopefully some of these issues will be worked on to enhance the game.
