Because he has over a million people around the world all saying it for him.
I do find it funny, although maybe not to the EXTENT... but Cotto did to Gomez what Mayweather did to Gatti...
My, "oh shit" o-Meter on Miguel Cotto went from a 6.5 to an 8 with that fight... and it has nothing to do with fighting Gomez, He showed a fully effective arsenal... not one dimensional at all...
Good Shit Cotto keep it coming... If you talked to me 3 months ago, I wouldnt of said any of this, but the recent business decisions Floyd has made to NOT further his legacy, and Cotto's willingness to prove it non-stop... lessens my concern for Mayweathers financial stance, and enlightens me on Cottos escalation.
Im still not gonna say I think Cotto can beat Mayweather... but my likeness of each fighter has evened a lot more.
Chips?
While that might be true, how many times can Floyd beat a dead horse? The boxing world is already fed up with his antics.
As Reedickyaluss put it:
Floyd is the Patriots, yet he keeps playing the Dolphins instead of manning up against the Cowboys or Packers, etc.....
well yeah i agree.. the ONLY reason the oscar thing is ok in my book is for all the things i said before...
-Gave him a SD
-Floyd inactive
-Oscar active
-Floyd Sr in his corner
-Floyd not focused on boxing at all
The hatton fight makes me sick
I think floyd cotto would be huge... but to the casual fan... ehhh.. it WOULD SELL dont get me wrong, not to the point of a hatton or de la hoya though..

It would be huge. Not only that, it would keep him in the public eye, improve his legacy and make him more money.
He could have fought Cotto last weekend, made an extra 10-15 million to pad his bank and still have a rematch with ODLH in September.
If it was all about the money, nobody would turn down 10-15 million. Floyd might act like that is not enough, and if he does well then he has priced himself out of being a fighter. He is enough of a draw that he could make serious money just by staying busy. But he is copying the ODLH, fans are suckers bitch act.

That's not my argument. All im saying is, many people here think that its just as easy as "calling him out". Margo took "calling him out" to the next level, and did it work? No. If Floyd doesnt wanna fight u, then he doesnt wanna fight u. It doesnt matter if u smack his momma!
Very True! It all comes down to risk vs. reward for Floyd. Too high of a risk, and he will avoid the reward.
Margarito was the guy who everyone wanted Floyd to fight. Margarito crashed his press conference and called him out right to his face. The fight Did not happen and all we saw was Floyd acting paranoid and looking over his shoulder all night.
This has nothing to do with calling Floyd out. If Cotto did, Floyd would say Cotto does not bring enough money to the bank. It is the ultimate excuse and too many people have bought it.
All you need to do, is step back and look how it all transpired. It does not matter who you are a fan of. Floyd is guaranteed a great payday no matter who he fights. The money excuse is just that, an excuse.
.....He also brought a broader audience and larger payday. Margarito would not do those type of numbers. Mayweather knows that he must have an oppnent with a Huge following, aside himself to generate interest ofn a Huge magnitude. If it ain't about dollars then it doesn't make sense. Hatton was a "superstar" in his own right representing the U.K and Baldomir was the Recognized champion

I think Mayweather might be sitting back letting the Welterweights sort them selves out, he's going to let one guy collect all the belts then just fight him. It's like a Welterweight tournament to see who gets the mega fight with Floyd. Or he probably is ducking the top WW, only Floyd knows.
When the offer to fight Margarito was presented to Floyd, there was NOBODY else that was available for Floyd's ppv date. Floyd literally had no opponent. Margarito went as far as interupting Floyd's press conference, and told Floyd to his face "why wont u fight me". Floyd then went scrambling for an opponent. He asked Shane, but Shane had already stated that he will be taking the rest of the year off following his rematch with Vargas. He even went as far as trying to get Spinks in the ring, but that idea was shut down pretty quick. All this, yet Margarito and the $8mil were still on the table for Floyd. Floyd took a gamble on the Gatti/Baldomir fight, in hopes that Baldomir won. He did, and ended up being Floyd's opponent.
The point that im trying to make is, by Cotto just simply calling Floyd out, it isnt going to make Floyd put the pen to the paper. Margarito went to great lengths to get this fight, and Floyd avoided it like a plague.
Please dont mention about Margo's loss to Williams, because that happened AFTER the whole Floyd/Margarito issue.
People always bring up the fact that Hatton called Floyd out, but did he really? All he did was criticize Floyd's lack of excitement.

but how HUMBLING would it be if cotto wins these next few fights, without EVER calling floyd out, and the fight gets made and cotto is just as dismissive about floyd being at the dias as he has been with each past fighter who didn't play the part of the gentlemen, with shane and a few others as examples.
true, unabashed ownage. ouch.

I dont think Mayweather should or Needs to call out Cotto, It should be the other way round, Cotto should do the samething PBF did to get the oscar fight...Continuing Winning and when PBF dont have anymore options he would have to respond to a Simple call out from Cotto.
I'll cosign that
Juelz Santana is the man haters, Dipset.
And Trinidad never talked sh!t niether, but he wasnt as quiet as Cotto
Trinidad was the COMPLETE opposite of Miguel Cotto

If Cotto unifys all the titles... then he doesnt need to say anything

True he does have everyone saying it for him, but just imagine if Larry asked him about Mayweather and Cotto said something like "Mayweather is a bitch, he wont fight me, next question..". A phrase like that would have everyone looking at Floyd like a punk and would have to respond. I think the fight will happen eventually, but a simple phrase from Cotto like that could do wonders in my opinion.
Haha I'm actually laughing at the thought of CottoCop calling Floyd a bitch :lol1:
he doesnt have to call him a bitch, its not cottos style.. something for him would be like
"well.... you know.... the difference i think between me and floyd is.... im willing to fight the best"
That's the only thing I hate about Cotto, he has that "I let that stuff to Bob Arum" line overused already. But I'm sure that if Bob Arum orders him to call Floyd a bitch he'll do it. LOL
If Cotto calls Floyd a bitch LIVE on HBO...The fihgt will be signed a couple days later wih Mayweather.
The Mayweather-Hatton fight was probably agreed to long before Hatton called out Floyd after the Castillo fight. Floyd's camp probably choose the exact phrase for Hatton to say. Together in the ring, Cotto and Mayweather Sr. could both call Floyd a ducking bitch and Floyd would still use the same excuses he has been using.
