Seriously, you guys. Hatton has been taking a beating on here since the talk of a rematch began. Yes, I think Hatton should take the loss, not complain, and move on. No, I do not think he will win a rematch.
BUT...
Let's look at it from another perspective for a second.
Hatton has never lost before. He's having a hard time dealing with the reality of it. He's a supremely confident fighter, and it's been a hard pill to swallow. Most of us are sick of him mentioning Cortez when he's interviewed about the fight, but ask yourself this- when you were watching the fight, didn't you think Cortez was being uncharacteristically hard on Hatton? I think most fair-minded people would agree Cortez was not ref'ing his normal fight. Cortez allows infighting all the time in his fights, and it does seem he was ref'ing the fight strangely. Would it have made a difference in the outcome? Who knows? But probably not. Yet it gives Hatton a foundation to try and get another fight with Floyd. Should Hatton not try? Why shouldn't he? It's the biggest fight he can make, and he believes he can beat Mayweather. Isn't this kind of determination and self-confidence something we are supposed to admire? If you want to be mad at someone for Mayweather-Hatton 2, then get mad at Floyd for fighting Hatton instead of Cotto. But how can you fault Hatton? Seriously?!
Bottom line.
If Hatton can get this fight made he has a chance to be part of the biggest UK fight since the Benn/Eubank days. And an opportunity to become, with a victory- however slim you think his chances, arguably the greatest UK fighter of all time, not to mention grab the p4p #1 title. Honestly, which one of you wouldn't do the same in his shoes?
It wasn't one sided for the first six rounds despite that the scorecards say, and Floyd wasn't beating Hatton at his own game because the referee was separating the fighters in some cases BEFORE there was a clinch. If you can't see that Cortez did a piss-poor job then you're probably better off watching "professional" wrestling.
And Chad Dawson beat Glen Johnson eight rounds to four.
well, if we're not paying attention to the scorecards then I have mayweather winning every round until the KO 10 rounds to 5.
Hatton has "manned up" as far as I can tell. He 's accepted the loss. He's congratulated Floyd.
What has happened is this: He sees Floyd is open to the possibilty of a rematch. He watched the tape of the fight, sees several things he did wrong. He sees Cortez breaking them *before* a clinch several times. Cortez broke them sometimes when they were just close. Seriously, watch the fight. He broke them when Floyd was holding, and turned and warned Hatton. I mean, it really was bizarre ref'ing from Cortez in several instances. So Hatton sees this, and wants to try again. So what is his crime? If the fight is made, it'll be because Mayweather and HBO want it. If Mayweather and HBO want it, wouldn't Hatton have to be insane to not make a historically big fight?
Nobody is saying Cortez knocked Hatton out. Nobody is saying Hatton has earned a rematch. What I, personally, am saying is that Cortez did a poor job as ref, was biased, made it nearly impossible for Hatton to fight on the inside, which made it a harder fight for Hatton. If you watch the fight again, seriously, with an unbiased agenda, you'll see that for yourself. That's simply stating fact.
Hatton has every right to lobby for a rematch. He's an accomplished champion and wants to make a historic stadium fight in his home country. He thinks he can win, wants another try, and it seems Mayweather may want to do it, too. If you were in Hatton's shoes, you'd do the same thing. Anyone who says differently is lying their ass off. Period.
No "manning up" would be him taking his lost, and not making a thousand excuses after the fight. First it was Cortez's ref'ing skills, then it was him not being comfortable at 147, then it was the jet lag coming from the uk. I mean c'mon...
To be frank Hattons no amateur.. once he saw that Cortez wasn't letting him get on his game, from then on he should of worked on a new strategy. I mean why go the whole 12 rounds trying to fight using the same inside game, if you know the ref is being "biased" against you and your fighting style. Why even box at all if your always looking for a ref to let YOU do YOUR thing.
I mean is this what boxing is about now. Ref's letting boxers "do there thing"? You play the cards that you are dealt and you deal with it. If you ain't feeling something you adjust. Boxing isn't always fair with the ref's and the judges. Even I can admit that, but once your in that ring, all focus should be on how your going to ultimately annihilate the person in front of you.
Plus in all fairness on Cortez. If you remember correctly Cortez was getting alot of heat about Hatton's dirty inside tactics before the fight even started. So its only natural for him to come in the match thinking well "let me put a stop to this now".
If Cortez would of let Hatton do his thing in the inside and hatton would have won the fight. Then you would have the Floyd fans crying saying that Cortez suck, and that he didn't do his job. But since the tables are turned, you got Hatton fans crying. So its like he can't win either way, and people know this. So I'm just not understanding why blame the ref. People are going to bitch and moan regardless.
I always watch boxing with and unbiased agenda. Because at this present moment...I have no favorite... I just love boxing. After watching the fight numerous times, I also seen how when Hatton DID get to get inside, Mayweather would straight shut him down once he got there. At numerous times in the fight, Floyd played Hatton's game and still was able to shut him down.
At the end of the fight, Hatton even admitted that himself.. so saying that Hatton would have had a chance if Cortez let him "do his thing" is preposterous. Do I think he deserves a rematch yeah.. as a fan would i want to see a rematch after what happen the first fight.. hell no.
I'm not a mayweather fan, but wow some of you Hatton fans really disgust me with the excuses. It's been over 5 months and yet the excuses are still flowing. If Floyd lost and made these many excuses as Hatton has made. This forum would be full of threads with people saying "Floyd just needs to man up and take his lost". But since its Hatton people say he has a right to complain? How is that? I'm just not understanding..and excuse my french but Hatton got knocked the fuck out, plain and simple. So what does cortez's ref skills have to do with how Mayweather viscously knocked him out. Last i check Cortez didn't push hatton into mayweathers gloves? I mean c'mon seriously.
Hatton had to change his style to something he was uncomfortable with after Cortez wrongly started deducting from him.
Of course Mayweather was the best fighter on the night. For a start, Hatton will never be a top class Welterweight due to his size. Just a top class Light-Welterweight.
I just think that a high profile boxing match at one of the most famous sporting venues on the planet (Wembley Stadium) would be good for the exposure of this sport.

Very, very good post sir.

Cortez was definatly "over agressive" I guess you could say, but that doesn't account for ricky getting knocked out. The fight was too one sided to have a rematch, if Ricky didn't get knocked out, mabye. He should be grateful he even got the chance to get where he was, if I had to choose between a DLH rematch and a Hatton rematch I'd take DLH. IMO DLH was closer to beating pbf then Ricky.....although I wouldnt go as far as to put it on ppv lol, which they probably would.
None of you would fight Witter if you had a chance for a bigger, history-making fight, one of the biggest fights ever held in your country....
Hatton is going to have a very hard time, and will very likely lose the rematch, because he shouldn't be fighting an ounce over 140, ever. Floyd's reach and jab are just too much for Hatton to get around, he's not a big enough guy to do anything but fight on the inside, and Floyd fought the perfect fight (with a little help from the ref).
But those of you who think Cortez was just "doing his job" and that "Hatton didn't win a round" are as delusional as you are accusing Hatton of being.
blaming cortez is gay... floyd was beating hatton at his own game. it was pretty one-sided in floyd's favor... I guess you can't blame hatton for wanting revenge, but even he should know he missed more shots than he landed.

Rematches should only be for fights that are close or controversial, Hatton lost just about every round. I see no point whatsoever making this happen.

If Hatton really wants to leave a legacy then clean up at Jr WW and then start talking about a rematch with Mayweather.

Hatton taking a rematch with Floyd would be like Gatti coming out of retirement for a crack at Mayweather again........
It doesn't make sense. I like Hatton, I honestly do. I can sympathize with his dealing with the loss and understand that he's never felt this before. But there comes a point in time when you have to get over shit and handle your business, if Hatton wants Mayweather again I think he should earn it in the ring, not by lobbying his cause.
..first and foremost he needs to get past Malignaggi and prove the Avid boxing fan wrong> taking a much avoided bout against Witter
One of Hatton's main reasons for a rematch is that he wants to prove the critics wrong and regain his credibility. If he wants to see if he can beat Mayweather at light welterweight in England with a different ref then why not? Atleast he's not like alot of fighters at the moment ducking people. At the end of the day it will be Mayweather signing the contract. Blame him.
The score cards were s crooked as the ref, and the ref had a major impact on the fight by preventing any infighting in a situation where one fighter was clearly going to be relying on infighting to win. Sure Hatton was getting tagged as he made his way in but he's always done that. It was the fact that Floyd would then duck below the waist or would hit and then hold until they were separated and Hatton was the one being warned!
Remember the collazo fight? the first american hatton fought, he won that fight pretty narrowly and took a pretty severe beating
That's very true. Apart from Collazo was the seventh American that Ricky fought, and he fought the first American at Madison Square Gardens in his second professional fight.
I think Hatton vs Tzu and Hatton vs Collazo are 50x more worthy of a rematch than Hatton vs PBF. Those matches were close and Hatton promised rematchs to them in the ring but never delivered. Hatton vs PBF was one sided and not worth seeing again as the outcome is 99% certain.
One sided? You must have been watching a different fight to me then mate because the one i watched it was pretty even stevens before the knockout.
Dont blame cortez for Hatton's loss, so what the ref was being too hard on Hatton, shit happens, the bottom line Hatton lost too badly to get a rematch with floyd. As pbf said, the guy has fought a bunch of journeymen and has a few good punches, and is pretty strong, put him up againt another good american fighter and im willing to bet everything he'll lose. Remember the collazo fight? the first american hatton fought, he won that fight pretty narrowly and took a pretty severe beating. I mean granted hes beat guys like castillo but he isnt worthy of a mayweather rematch IMO, pbf is at the top of his game, and should just take the rematch with oscar (which idk about you guys but im actully willing to see, after rewatching the fight recently I actully thought it was pretty decent), and then go to cotto, then retire, no point in a hatton rematch, hatton came just as close to beating floyd as oscar did and oscar didn't get knocked out.
