legend. you're a good soul. thanks man
Appreciated! I'm just showing respect to a good forum member who appears to have his head screwed on properly. Take it easy bro.
Yea, because Joe was winning all the British ABA Titles they didn't want to let him go to the olympics but make him fight for more titles caus he was bringing more money for welsh boxing.
I don't thoroughly understand it but it's sooo stupid.
But if Joe went to the olympics would he be the long reigning champ he is today???
Yeah man he actually says in the book that it probabaly turned out the right way, because he would have been rich after the gold medal and wouldnt have the drive that kept him undefeated and a champion for a decade+.
Yeah I read in his autobiography that they wouldnt let him have a box-off to get to Barcelona, they just refused him and let some other kid from Cardiff who didn't end up getting far at all.

They were if you were Welsh, with recession, Mining dissappearing from the area, unemployment....Boxing would seem the ideal way to break out of the area (although Joe still lives there). Enzo's had a bit more hair as well!!
The wierdest thing is that a year after that film was made Joe knocked out the 1992 Olympic Silver medalist and future HW champ Chris Byrd in a middleweight tournament!! How the fuck did he not go to Barcelona!!! I think the Telegraph online has a piece about Enzo saying it was down to politics in the Welsh ABA at the time, they must be looking like a proper bunch of cunts now
The reason Joe didn't go to Barcelona is because they wouldn't allow Enzo in his corner.
Incredible. What impressed me most was how humble and intelligent he semed even at what, 18, 19. Not a trace of the agressive chav in him, and this from some kid from Cardiff who by the sound of it had every amateur title going at the time.
He still seems the same now too.

wow that video is fuckin bleak.
I'm thoroughly depressed now. lol.
It was a typical valleys mining town which went down hill when the pits closed leaving a type of town not unlike Youngstown Ohio after the steel industry collapsed in the USA . When a town has its main employer taken away, its like tearing the soul from a place, heavy industry was, in many ways, the community, once it fell, those businesses that thrived of of it went down like dominos......fucking depressing but a spur for the right type of characters, excellence generally rises to the top, especially in boxing.
Good video joes looking very young there tho he would want to up his training for b-hop
Yeah 'cause every 19 year old boxer trains like a top 10 P4p pro.
