that,s right he would destroy all of these,s so called champs, even pretty girl ...hearns power was terrible for any opponent to receive on the chin or bodyshot...hearns would make flloyd quit or knock him out 4 sure, and stop cotto by 3 rounds, beat margarito in a boxing clinic...
tbh i would favour him over all top ww today... id give floyd a good shot if he was a natural 147lber but floyd is just to small i think. Sugar ray managed to beat hearns but Ray was a big fast powerfull ww with a good chin.
I'm a huge Floyd fan, but Hearns would slaughter of him.
To fans in here even trying to disrespect what this guy was in the sport is beyond crazy. The new breed of boxing fans have really forgotten about the history of this sport.
When guys like Hearns were fighting, they didn't get all these easy bullshit fights like the "top guys" do now. They had to earn everything they got.
He would def beat every single WW today. PBF vs Hearns would be competitive but i think late Hearns stops him.
Leonard IMO beats everyone today too. Hearns would just look better cause he'd stack more and probably more brutal knockouts.
I think tommy hearns forced himself to make welter weight :boxing:
Knocking out guys much smaller then himself, reminds me of what Pavlik is kind of doing. Knocking out guys naturally smaller then himself
Hearns didn't drop a lot of weight really, it was almost impossible back then when you had same day weigh-ins.
Fighters could not drop a lot of weight unless they wanted to be severely weight-drained during the fight... Some fighters died because of this and that's why the rule was changed.
He was a naturally skinny guy with awesome power. When Hearns got older and heavier, he still knocked out guys at light heavyweight/cruiserweight.

It would be interesting though to see how Floyd would fight when he is behind on points.
I think we saw some of that when Floyd fought Zab Judah. He lost many of the early rounds but came on later in the fight.
it was rediculously unfair when he was fighting at 147. He had every single advantage in the book.
Speed, power, height, reach, etc.
He wouldnt be able to land anything flush on Mayweather, but Mayweather wouldnt have been very effective against Hearns becuase of the massive hieght and reach disadvantages

Back then they had to make weight the day of the fight, not 30 hours ahead of time like they do now. Give Tommy the credit he deserves. He was a devastating welterweight.

hearns is something else.....
and i agree that no welter todays beats hearns.
his power, left and range was amazing...and none of the todays welter would be able to deal with that imo.
mayweather would have a chance against hearns IMO as he can adapt to any style and fares well against tall opponents (corales and DLH).
However i can see the Motor city cobra stopping Mayweather in the mid rounds of the fight or winning a UD as mayweather would be too defensive and scared to take one of the hitmans big shots.
I think desperation would take over Mayweather, and he'd throw strategy out the window trying to knock Hearns out. Either way, the Hit Man wins. He is miles ahead of Mayweather.
Mayweather is nothing stylistically like Leonard. Leonard was largely an offensive fighter, who could do anything else in the book. I see Mayweather being defensive all night and Hearns beating him to a very wide decision.
Edit: I exagerated a bit the unlikeness of Leonards and Mayweather's styles, but still, they were very different fighters.
That's true. Mayweather would try and neutralize Hearns, while Ray tried to take him apart. It would be interesting though to see how Floyd would fight when he is behind on points.
Mayweather isn't Ray Leonard, he wouldn't be able to walk through Hell to get to Hearns the way Leonard did. Mayweather isn't a natural welterweight either. If Hearns was fighting today, Mayweather would say Hearns was a Mayweather fan and didn't deserve to fight Mayweather.

Yeah man. Thomas Hearns was something special. :boxing:
