Too many people on here give Gomez too much credit, and some even pick him to win, which is hilarious. For everyone else who actually watches boxing and realizes this fight is a mismatch and Gomez has 0% chance of winning, sign in so I know who understands this sport.

18-3 with 8 KO's vs. 31-0 and 25 KO's.
One guy has wins over the likes of Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Malignaggi, Quintana (who dominated a supposed future star in Williams), and some other former and future champions, as well as broke some undefeated fighters.
The other has fought countless fighters with less than 20 fights and several losses, has lost himself to Manfredo, to Jesse Feliciano who was 8-1 at the time, and Ishe Smith who was 3-0 at the time. Oh, and he beat a washed up Gatti and overrated Tackie who's lost 4 out of his last 6 fights.
Maybe this Gomez hype is just some Boxingscene humor, and if so, you got me. Otherwise, let's get real folks. You can have all the heart in the world, and it doesn't matter when you go up against a fighter who simply outclasses you and is superior in every aspect of the game. Just ask Gatti, who has never lacked heart in his life.
gomez not fight to win???yeah right, if the kids gets ko'ed its because he goes in there to win...he could easily last the distance if he fights like urkal....
IMO from what I've seen Gomez doesn't really seem like he expects to win. He's real happy go lucky like he's going into do a job. Not like he's going into war against some bad odds. I think he's content with lasting like 9 rounds and landing a couple shots. I don't honestly think he even expects to win. Not to say that he can't, If Cotto decides to suck then he definitely has a chance.
I can't say I totally disagree with this.. ^ He has indicated a few times that he's both absolutely positive he will win, and nothing of the sort.
I think fights at heavyweight have a bigger wildcard factor b/c at that weight. Literally one punch can frequently change everything since they are so much stronger. Gomez would need to string a lot of strong punches and work together to hurt Cotto.
Decent point, although there's alot of room for discussion on that.. Unfortunately anyways, I'm referring to the specifics in this situation, specifically. Look at what happened to Douglas in his very next fight. He got creamed by Holyfield in 3 rounds.
I would say that calling a Gomez win a bigger upset than Douglas over Tyson would be pushing things, oh.. Just ALOT. :lol1:
GREAT post.. I agree. but IM not underestimating any hungry mexican fighter...look at the ones that spoiled Ricardo Williams and Bojado and Julio Diaz.....
That's true, but at the same time, all of those guys are young pups. Bojado was still barely a prospect when he lost, and even now, his record is just 18-3, just like Gomez. Cotto is waaaaaay past prospect status, and is a proven champion. If Gomez wins it wouldn't be a "spoil", it would be a massive upset and a miracle.

Cotto should win this but to say that Gomez has 0% chance is just ridiculous, We have to remember that Cotto's chin is pretty questionable, from what I remember he got hurt real bad by adverage fighters Torres and Corley, he also got rocked by Judah and Mosley. The guy is not invinceable! but to tell you the truth I really want to see Cotto vs Margarito later this year so we will see what happens.
Really? According to the records; Douglas had lost 4 times, 3 by TKO when he fought Tyson. Douglas had more fights at that point, but the stoppages are what jumps out at me..

This fight can be easilly discribed in one word.......... MISMATCH.. My only question is how this guy earned the right to fight Cotto in the first place!! I
think Cotto is the best PROVEN fighter at 147 pounds and for him to even
take this fight quite frankly is a little demeaning. Just another payday for a champion and a chance to pad his record. Really unfortunate but seems like all the champions do it now days. How anyone can take this fight seriously speaks loads of the actual boxing knowledge of the average boxing fan today who based their understanding of the sport solely on what the media tells them. The media says this is a competitive fight so HEY!! it must be!!! Let's all act surprised when Cotto blows this guy out!!
And he didn't dominate Paulie or Urkal because Urkal didn't want to fight, and Paulie is a slick boxer who was able to avoid too much punishment early, but eventually you saw his face after the fight. He stayed up because of pride, not because he ever had a chance in that fight, and I STILL gave those guys more of a chance than I give Gomez beforehand.
Cotto is crushing so many guys before THEY become great, that we don;t know how good they are. Paulie hasn't lost since then, Quintana, who got demolished by Cotto, went on to beat Williams, and so on.
So we don't really know yet how good Cotto can be, or how good his opponents are or can be. It's similar to how Roy Jones steamrolled his opponents early on, including Toney and Hopkins, and look how good those guys turned out to be.
I dont know about that, I seem to remember Paulie holding on for dear life being a contributing factor and our boy Urkal Keeping his guard up 93.5% of the time. But hey I dont even own my voodoo doll fashioned with cotto's shaved eyebrow hairs, so... who am i to argue?
The eyebrows are something else.. True. I made like 4 dolls from one plucking. Quite honestly, Malignaggi and Urkal were throwing 'give-a-fuck' type barrages and singles at Cotto just when Miguel would start to shut down shop, but I hear you, Mech.
Even though Im a cotto supporter from a while back, as a fighter he has his flaws. Hes kind of a wildcard even though hes perceived by some to be at the top of the food chain in his weight class. While hes undefeated, his performances vary wildly. Wasn't he supposed to steamroll maliggnagi and urkal?
I thought he would, and while he won, honestly weren't we expecting him to win in much more impressive fashion? Im not trying to knock cotto, like I said Im a fan, but when it comes to boxing Im waryof makin the kind of statements like "no chance", even if I believe that gomez should conceivably have a minute chance of winning.
Of course he has his flaws, he's far from a perfect fighter, and that's why I'm as much of a fan as I am, and why I'm not big on Mayweathr, even though he's the closest to being a "perfect" fighter as there is right now. I rather see Cotto get up from the mat against Torres to finish him off, in a daze against Corley only to regain his composure and come back to dominate, etc.
I don't think Gomez has no chance because Cotto is perfect, but more because he's not even in the same league as Cotto.
