This is what sometimes makes this sport bad. Ppl wants 2 see this fight out of name-recognition alone. Never mind the fact that both should've retired years ago.
This gives me the same feeling as the Foreman-Cooney fight. "The old Geezers at Ceasars". S*gh......
tyson needs to get in the kind of shape he is in that picture..i still want to watch this..i never give up my hopes for tyson..for some reason, i still think he can be a champ again..stupid i know..
Anything can happen in boxing. I believe in Mike to.
how convenient that you ignore this post.
if both fighters come out sloppy, overweight, and put on a boring fight which are all very possible at this stage of their careers, it would definitely be a black eye for boxing. outsiders would see it as a desperate attempt by boxing to get back to the limelight in my opinion.
i fail to understand why some people feel that any press is good press for boxing. it doesnt work that way. DLH/Mayweather I was a huge event that disappointed casual fans. All casual fans I know who watched the fight said it sucked. Now, most diehard fans will say that it doesnt matter what casual fans think, but diehard fans dont pay the bills, casual fans do.
oh so you like talking about if's, what if this or what if that
so what if they come to fight in great shape? does that settle everything for you?
.....................
.....first off Holyfield is not coming in out of shape......i don't think that is even possible...and Tyson said in a interview that if he were to do it one last time he would put everything into it.....so he "should" be in shape.
You think outsiders to boxing really would think oh this as a "desperate attempt by boxing to get back to the limelight"?......
i don't think so....they would say Damn Tyson's fighting again? i thought he retired! he sucks now. Oh hes fighting Holyfield? hes old now and needs to quit.
Then someone asks them if they are going to watch, and the answer would be yes. Because it's Mike Tyson VS Evander Holyfield 3.
they wont think it's some conspiracy theory that boxing is making this fight to get back into the limelight. thats absurd for you to even think that.
ANY press that talks about boxing without tearing "boxing" down, and puts people into seats and in front of tv is good (in boxing) because it means possibly getting more casual fans into boxing fans. and the more fans of boxing the more boxing on tv. supply and demand.
I hate the people who hear something and automatically say"the is a black eye for boxing(or mma)"
the real black eyes to boxing are the corrupt promoters, the thousands of belts, and the crooked judges.
Not 2 boxers fighting each other
I do think the venue (no offense to the people of St. Louis) is all wrong.
Why would they pick St. Louis (even just as an idea?)...
why not Vegas? or New York? Atlantic City?
a city/state boxing is known for having big bouts there...
not St. Louis.
Tyson couldn't get a boxing license in the three main states (New Jersey, New York, Nevada) for the Lewis fight so I highly doubt Tyson could fight there again because of the time he's had away from the ring.
why is it a black eye to boxing??
if this fight actually happens which i hope not....it will be sold out and do massive pay per view numbers and get a lot of non boxing fans watching a boxing telecast.
but yeah.............its a black eye

another massive event, i cant see how that is bad for boxing. imagine how big boxing will be in the month of september if this fight happens along with mayweather-Delahoya, the mainstream coverage will be ridiculous. with that said, i doubt this fight happens

Bloody hell. 10 years too late.
A guy who's past his prime, and another who's WAY past his prime. I can only hope this fight gets canceled and both guys have the good sense to go off into the sunset.
That or Holyfield continues his head butting, and Tyson behaves like an idiot from frustration. Mike needs the pay day so there's a decent chance of this happening.
