Arturo Gatti was in some of the greatest fights ever. Looking at his record, he clearly wasn't one of the greatest fighters ever though. If you were voting, would you vote to put Gatti in the boxing HOF?
for me he should..
he is one of the reason why ppl
watched boxing when
boxing is in its down times..
and if HOF is based on greatness
they should have called it
Hall of greats..
No.
I'm steadfast in believing that being a H.O.F.'er is based on how good you were as a fighter. Meaning how you matched up in all fantasies.
Arturo Gatti is one of the most entertaining fighters of all time..............a tough guy who is always worth the money to watch, and understandably one of the easiest guys to pull for because of his heroics.
lol K I love Jason Litzau also. Same level as Gatti............C class fighters.
At absolute best.

I agree and am stunned the poll turned out as close as it did. Now I wish I had made it a public poll. I believe there is a lot of regional bias in these sort of things and if Gatti had fought out of Kansas City or Phoenix instead of being an East coast media darling he'd just be remembered as an exciting TV fighter and have no consideration for the HOF.
ok. but he didn't fight out of kansas city or phoenix. he fought out of atlantic city, and consistently sold out the boardwalk. i just don't see how you can leave someone out of the hall who was that popular, and was such a big part of boxing history during his era.
am i bias? an italian kid fighting for new jersey, and becoming a 2 time world champ while constantly giving us great fights. hell yeah i'm bias. that doesn't mean i'm wrong.
No he shouldnt be sorry. Hall of Fame is not based on being in good fights, heck Joey Spina was in a good fight this past Friday on ESPN, all it takes is too guys with evenly matched skills and anyone can have a fight of the year. You cant vote with your heart, but your head. Gatti was a good fighter, had some skills yes, but Hall of Fame, Im sorry, no.

Although it''s the Hall of FAME and not Hall of Great, I would like it to also have requirements of greatness as well.
Gatti will probably get in, but there's a lot of guys who should be inducted into Canastota before Gatti.
Brian Mitchell
Esteban Dejesus
Marlon Starling
Donald Curry
Julian Jackson
Riddick Bowe
To name a few.
Everyone is so concerned about records? He was a two time world champion and you guys call him a bum?
Next to ODLH he was also arguably the biggest draw in Boxing for many years. He filled the seats and provided us with some of the best fights ever in the sport. How many other fighters can share that distinction?
He is what Boxing is all about. A true warrior and if there was more like him, boxing would still be in it's heyday.
No.
Felix Trinidad, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, Evander Holyfield, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, etc...
If he was that big of a draw, then he would've had more than one fight fight on HBO PPV.

I said no, but I guess you could make cases both way. If I put some thought into it, I think Gatti was a decent fighter but not a great fighter. While I would like to see the Hall of Fame be a place for anyone who has a large impact on the sport, I feel it can only be for the most skilled fighters. If they let Gatti in, they'll have to let guys like Mayorga, Judah, and Spinks in. All of them are better than Gatti but I don't think any of them will get inducted.

LOL Frank Warren is in there? seriously...haha
I kind of like Frank Warren he is crooked as fuck, but he is not a really ruthless promoter. He looks after his guys.
I'm sure history might say otherwise, but recent history. His deals with ITV and setanta have raised boxings profile in Britain as well.
He certainly has put on some epic fights.
Frank Warren is in the Hall of Fame now for fucks sake. If Frank Warren is in there I wouldn't be all that upset if Gatti got in.
But ideally it should be only the best that make it and on merit Gatti doesn't fit that bill.
ridiculous calling fighters bums.
Bums are the fighters we don't ever talk about,
Actually.....Andrew Hartley, but he has alot of genetic issues.
Arturo is a warrior, I'd put him in, he is in too many great fights not to.
i do. not b/c hes my fav fighter, but his fights are insane.. how can ppl not like arturo?
glorified bum.. LOL OK
punching bag.. no respect
most ppl on this forum are keyboard warriors and have no idea what its like to be a professional fighter.. if u watch his early career at superfeather he was very good there..
Good response. Personally I resent when fans call fighters bums, especially when they leave as much in the ring as Arturo Gatti did.

you can definitely make a case for both sides. from a skill level, he doesn't belong in the hall. looking at his record he doesn't belong in the hall. he lost all hist biggest fights, and a handful of smaller ones.
but boxing around the late 90s/turn of the millennium, especially on the east coast would not have been the same without gatti. he consistently put asses in seats. he consistently put on a show.
i'd say at some point he goes in. there are plenty of fighters who weren't really hof skill level that made it in. few have created the buzz gatti created.
