can Miguel Cotto fill the shoes of J C Chavez im not talking about him being popular in puerto Rico im talking about the bigger picture can he be as successfull and reveared as one of Greatest fighters ever
it seems tome that Miguel Cotto & Kelly Pavlik are everybodys favourite fighters at the moment due to thier old school style and thier no nonsense attitude ,they are old school fighters that are bringing something back to Boxing fans IMO
what do those numbers have to do with anything when the majority of those knock outs were against nobodies..
those numbers mean alot to jcc's legacy, there the reason why hes a Legend, you try and get in the ring 107 times with or without bums and see what happens
Corrales was never p4p king. At that time the p4p bosses were Sugar Shane, Roy, Morales, I can't rememebr who else but Corrales was a formidable opponent, if one-dimensional
with all do respect to chico's memory i don't know who he beat to get to top ten in that list.
I always think fighters are pushing it when they move up to a third or fourth division. In the case of boxing masters like Mayweather or Roy Jones, you know their skills will usually be enough to overcome even a natural size advantage, plus both of those guys always had the physiques to add muscle and not be overpowered moving up. A guy like Manny though...he was always very slender, and although he is something of a monster physically now, very toned and muscular, he is going up against guys with a greater depth to their frames, and also his style is very come forward and aggressive unlike Jones, Mayweather, Whitaker and many others who successfully hopped the weights. So I think it could be trouble. He should beat Diaz, who really isn't that great, but it will be tougher than a lot of people think, and I'd still pick Juan Diaz to beat him
And people mock Floyd Mayweather Jr. At age 23 Floyd was fighting the p4p king Corrales and calling every champion out and beating them. Now he's older and can't fight as often people bash his managing... People (right after Oscar's fight) said Floyd only fought senior citizens and Hatton would be too much for him. Oscar has a 4 year gap to Floyd, Shane Mosley, Cotto's biggest win had a 9 year gap to Cotto. No matter who you are, if you are carefully managing at 27 you won't reach greatness. Who did?
Then he will have proved to be the current BEST welterweight and possibly a top 5 spot on the p4p list (certainly top 5 p4p if he beats mayweather...could even land as high as 3rd)...
remember...calzaghe and hopkins are on their way out of the sport soon enough...which would bump pacquiao to first (if mayweather losses to cotto) so where would floyd and cotto land? more than likely in the 2 and 3 spots (hard to say what order exactly).
manny is gonna have a tough time at lightweight too.

what floyd did at 130 and 135 has nothing to do with what is going on at 147 right now. no one is talking about floyd so why bring him up?

those are some BIG shoes to fill, nobody is ever gona fill them shoes, not even jccjr. w107-L6
86 ko's thats crazy but cotto can be succesfull enough to be considered one of the greats one day, hes on his way
if cotto took the same path....fighting easy opponents for his first 40 fights....he could have had a similar record. chavez has accomplished a lot...but his career was as carefully guided as cotto's is at the moment.

JCC was suscessful as being very popular becuse of his 100+ fights, fighthing like every month {lol}!!!! but I don't consider him as suscessfull in boxing achiements as ppl think he was! A prime JCC would have lost to today's Miguel Cotto, and still JCC would had been more popular than Cotto!!!!
bottom line Cotto got his own shoes to fill and it wont take a 100 tomatoe cans to prove his the best!!!
cotto and pavlik are both young and both have potenetial of being considered 1 of the top boxers ever. only time will tell. cotto and pavlik have good resume so far and still undefeated
It depends. I mean, if you look at Chavez, much of his record is basically...completely illegitimate. He fought a record number of tomato cans. And I think a lot of fans overestimate a fighter like that, just because of the glory of 100 wins or whatever. And his long unbeaten streak. He was protected as much as people are saying Cotto was protected early on, a LOT more in fact.
Breaking it down, you look at Chavez' top wins you're talking about Meldrick Taylor, Jose Luis Ramirez, Lockridge, maybe Rosario. His defining fight should've been against Whitaker but we all know he lost that fight. But Pernell was great and it was actually a testament to how much better a fighter Chavez was than the come-forward-no-strategy fighter some people peg him for.
You look at Cotto, he's still young, he's beaten Judah, Mosley, Quintana, Malignaggi, Torres, and in fact, unlike J.C., he never takes easy fights. I can't even remember the last time he fought someone unknown. He always fights dangerous, good fighters. And always wins

Sure he was great.. but he isn't as great as Mexico makes him out to be.
His biggest wins were against Camacho, Roger Mayweather and Meldrick Taylor..
are u trying to get him to take the Whitaker bait :lol1:
It doesn't matter who he knocked out, it matters that he was a champ and beat all the top names. You can't fault JCC for being active, when it came time for him to step up he did and did it with success.
I love it when people say he beat a bunch of Mexican cab drivers but ignore the top level contenders he fough and beat on a consistent basis.
