he says he is a philadelphia native and therefor he feels free to comment on where Bernard Hopkins grew up. Has he ever been to Germantown, or just looked stuff up on Wikipedia and online? I use to do volunteer work in germantown, and it is not affluent. it is a rough area that has a great community boxing center (cant remember the name of it, but it's $3 a month to train). if anyone wants to check germantown out for themselves, just get off of any septa regional rail (they all run through this stop) at Wayne Junction. You will be in germantown. They dont always take kindly to strange faces, so dont say i didnt warn you.
Maybe it has pockets of affluence, but most of it looks liek the rest of North Philadelphia, a war zone full of people that have been forgotten by society.
man, i work all weekend, so i dont really get out and about. im not really a club person, but depending on how old you are, if you know, or if anyone you are staying with knows, anyone at temple university there are usually good parties around there. Dont know if you get down this way much, but on April 26th the USA vs. Puerto Rico boxing tournament is going on at Temple university. As far as cheesesteaks... man, any place you go in philly is going to have a better steak than you can get other places. Pats and Geno's in south philly, by the italian market, of Jim's on south street seem to be favorites.
Can you find out what time the tournament starts. I will try to make that. Thanks man

I am not really a club person either just looking for something to do while I'm up there. So N. Randolph st. is basically near or part of the campus of Temple Univ. Been to Temple before has the surrounding area changed any? Because I used to just walk around there and never had any problems or anything.
I'll be in North Philly this weekend somewhere on N. Randolph st. Whats happening in Philly? Where is the best party and cheesesteak place at?

In addition, I seriously doubt KayJay was around (or even alive for that matter), when Hopkins was growing up there 25-30 years ago (late 70's/early 80's). Remember, Hopkins is pretty damn old
All of Philadelphia was a rough place during the 70's and 80's. That is the time when "white flight" had hit the city the hardest. The economic base pulled out (white business owners ran away and manufacturing started to move overseas) and drugs moved in. i didnt even think about it, but it's kind of funny to try and judge the socioeconomics of a place 30 years ago from todays statistics...
