Big fucking deal, We all know Calzaghe has been in soft as a pro and a champion so what about the amateurs. Was he fighting the best then? How many world competitions did he win? Did he go to the Olympics? Did he win the Pan am games? No? Then shut the fuck up!
Calzaghe started boxing aged nine, with the southpaw having 120+ fights and won four schoolboy ABA titles, followed by three consecutive senior British ABA titles (British Championships) from 1991 to 1993. This made him only the second boxer in history to win at welter, light middleweight and middleweight divisions. He also beat future WBO and IBF heavyweight world champion Chris Byrd as a middleweight in 1992.
It's all here, if you want to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Calzaghe
He was going to the Olympics until they stopped Enzo from working in his corner. If he had, I think he would have won a gold.
No damn clue...
Especially when Hopkins can counter punch southpaws in his sleep. Especially when Calzaghe leaves himself squared up a lot. Hopkins is much slower, he's older, but then again age is overrated imo. He's not fighting a lot, he's fresh, he's never been the type to rely on athleticism either.
However Cortez being the ref complicates things. Hopkins needs to headbutt, hold, hit after the break, etc. to win the fight.
Good post except for that. ^ Watch on the 19th if that's what you think..
Im just curious, i have seen almost everyone on here post and they are almost all for Calzaghe im just curious why this is?
I got 5k on Hopkins with another poster on here....:boxing:

Talking shit? what? lol i love both these fighters im stating facts.
fair enough mate, but seriously, if calzaghe was American a lot of peeps on here would be saying he was the greatest thing since sliced bread
No I actually agree with him. When remembering the most famous fighters you think of De La Hoya and Trinidad.
However, Joe is underrated and will be remembered as one of the best (if not the best) super middleweight of all time. So Joe will be remembered, just not as much as De La Hoya (He might be bigger then trinidad though)
I don't agree with you, Addison. Joe doesn't have a history of headbutting people, and just because those other guys you mentioned do it, it doesn't make it OK. It's wrong, it's not good sportsmanship, and it makes me lose respect when I see any boxer breaking rules. Calzaghe doesn't need to fight dirty (although he can give as good as he gets when he wants to) he can win on pure skill alone. That's the main reason I like Joe. Skills. Talent. And to top it all off, he's a pretty decent guy, not an egomaniac. He deserves to win against Hopkins.
Fair enough. ^
You've only lost me at the "deserving" part..
Joe and Bernard have alot in common.
They also both tend to lead with their heads at times.
I have no doubt Hopkins throws in the occasional dirty trick.. So does Hatton, Mayweather, Klitschko, Cotto, and a shitload of other guys who are at the top of their divisions..
