UFC’S SILVA WANTS ROY JONES IN BOXING MATCH!
19 March, 2008 by Pedro Fernandez
WOULD “CHINNY” JONES END UP LUNCHMEAT?
San Francisco, CA-People have always wondered how a boxer would do against a Mixed Martial Arts fighter. The roadblock to these type of fights happening has always been the boxer’s reluctance to engage in such an MMA match. People say, “They are two forms of fighting, and you can’t mix the two sports together.” Having heard that time and again, there were published reports late Tuesday that Anderson Silva, the UFC 185 lb. champion, wants to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match!
BETCHA’ ROY WON’T ANSWER THE PHONE!
Silva is fresh off a win (via choke hold) over Dan Henderson, formerly the Pride Fighting 185 lb. champion, Silva is one of the most dangerous strikers in MMA. Besides his submission holds, both Anderson’s punches and kicks are lethal. Jones is coming off a 12-round near-shutout win over a fat former welterweight (147) champion in Felix Trinidad. Silva said that, “he would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match.”
SILVA ONE OF BEST MMA GUYS PERIOD!
Soon to be 33 years old, Silva is 20-4 in MMA, while Jones, the 1988 Olympic runner up (by way of robbery) is now 39 years of age and way past his peak. As a boxer, his record stands at 52-4 with 38 KOs. For Roy to take this fight in my mind would be virtual suicide. Silva is bigger, stronger, knows how to put leverage on his punches, and would be willing to fight Roy at or around 180 lbs. Were he to connect on Jones’ fragile chin, it would be “lights out” for Mr. Jones. As the above subtitle says, “Betcha’ Roy won’t answer the phone!”

In his last column, he said in reference to Marquez, "Although he doesn’t have the KO power that Manny has, he is the better boxer of the two, again something I did not believe until last Saturday." Like he watched Pacquiao's terrible balance and awkward lunges previously and thought "Hmm, maybe he's the next Ali!"
Anyways, I responded to that comment, and several other gems, like saying that a large population of Filipinos are whackos. By the morning, my comment had been erased and several other critical remarks were replaced by the phrase "comments are cool, novels are not! Got ot shorten it up sir." He's a guy who simply cannot accept if his views are criticized.
Punches are the least-emphasized aspect of Muay Thai. While Silva is a very crisp puncher and has developed his hands well, his arsenal is firmly rooted in the "science of eight limbs". If one were to limit his strikes solely to punches, he wouldn't even be the best in his division in MMA.
this fight will never happen. im just surprised people are making threads about this shit, it's just pointless. roy will not be fighting silva. not in the cage. and why the fuck would roy even move in weight to fight a cage fighter??? roy is gonna train and put on weight to fight a cage fighter? it's just pointless.
I think Pedro Fernandez might be a bookie and is trying to get people to bet on Silva :boxing:

LOL!!!!
Very biased first of all.
But Silva wouldnt even have a punchers chance. He's not wearing 2 ounce gloves anymore, that are solely there for the protection of the hand.
He would be wearing what? 10 ounce gloves? He wouldnt be half the puncher he was in MMA.
Silva is a great MMA fighter, but please. Jones is still very talented boxer, still has plenty of power, and even though he doesnt have the legs to move anymore, he would tear Silva apart.
It would last 6 rounds or less for sure
