This was bullshit. Andy Lee should have been granted the chance to redeem himself for the next round. sure he was getting hammered but it was his chance to prove himself against true adversity and his time was cut short. I don't care whom you are yo if you still throwing GOOD punches and not just any punch like Lee was doing it wouldn't be right to stop him because he's staking his claim as a elite prospect, the ref should have let him finish the round and gather himself. This referee probably would have stopped El Cepillo yesterday after falling out of the ring and being countlessly wobbled yet look at him, same with Diaz. Lee should go for an IMMEDIATE rematch and redeem himself quickly before people get any more of a chance to bash his name.
I think this was more of a case of unfortunate timing rather than a bad stoppage…
Yeah, on one hand as long as you are fighting back you want to let them keep going. But what is interesting about the stoppage is that there was a moment much earlier in the round where Lee got hit with three good shots and not only did he not fight, but his gloves dropped. If you were going to stop the fight based on my previously stated criteria, that might have been the time to have done it.
I bring that up because despite that moment where it was obvious that Lee was in trouble, I think the ref wanted to give Lee a chance to show he was still in the fight so he let them fight on. But despite the fact Lee was throwing a shot here and there, he was getting hit pretty much at will. I think the ref finally said to himself, Look, if this kid gets hit with one more big shot I have to stop the fight. And sure enough, that is exactly what happened.
The timing was unfortunate in that the last punch made it look like Lee still had a chance. But even the most biased observer would have to admit that he clearly did not. I love to watch big knockouts as well but we don't need any more dead boxers in the sport. The ref has to protect the safety of the boxers and although this is a violent sport, there wasn’t any need to watch Lee get his brain knocked around needlessly.
In any case, both Lee and his corner barely protested. They knew he was a beaten man on that night.
If the referee was going to stop the fight, he should of done it earlier. The moment in which he chose to stop it was horrendous. Lee was not only throwing back, but he was landing some big shots himself in return.
Bad Stoppage.
That's exactly what I was saying this Friday night. The referee missed his oppurtunity to stop it at a good time during the first part of the roung while Lee was getting smacked around. At the point in which he stepped in Andy was finally mounting an attack; the timing was horrendous. Maybe a second later he would have gotten smacked again- but you let a power puncher throw his punches and see what happens.

The first time i saw it i thought it was a premature stoppage since then I have change my mind, I actually think the referee should have stopped it earlier, Lee was eating too many bombs after bombs. he was only fighting on instinct, He would learn from this and become a better fighter, Losing early in your career can be the best thing to ever happen to a boxer and i think this case would be one of those success story in the future.
bad stoppage shouldve been stopped earlier, but after letting it go it def should not of been stopped there.
vera landed some cracking straight rights lee has a very good chin by the look of it
Terrible stoppage. I usually don't complain about stoppages. This ref could have stopped the fight at some point on the ropes and I might have been OK with it. Here though, in the center of the ring, with Lee throwing back hard, terrible stoppage.
