I've yet to see ANYONE on any messageboard actually score a particular round EVEN. I find that quite odd. I scored rounds 1 and 11 even. I just think an objective fan would score an obvious close round EVEN rather than give it to a particular fighter.
We pretty much saw the same fight but 8-4 in rounds for Marquez does look pretty bad.
yeah but when i watch fights live i always think "at worst" and those even rounds the first time i watched it i gave to marquez even round 1. id rather do that than get too overconfident my guy will win and scream robbery at a one point super close fight.
thanks
you could easily argue that JMM won the fight i just wish people would stop calling it a robbery.

It's funny, I rarely saw someone saying "close round, hard to call... I'll give it to Pac", but tons of people saying "close round, hard to call... I'll give it to JMM".
People usually root for the dog.... In this match it was JMM. The older guy...The 2:1 dog at the books.
Obviously in a fight where there are 4 or 5 close rounds it could go either way. Just like it did... One judge saw the close rounds as Pac's rounds, one saw them as JMM's. And one judge teeter tottered the close rounds between the 2. Hence the razor thin decision.
but pacquiao landed twice as many shots
even round 1 for me too.
11 was debatable.
if i scored 11 even, then the fight was a draw. if not, pacman won. that was after rewatching it.
when i watch fights live i tend to think "if worst comes to worst" and i had marquez winning by 3 points including round 1 being a marquez round. (8-4)
it was a very close fight. marquez beat manny badly in that 8th round which made the compubox stats heavily favor him. actually he was beating him in the 8th 12th and 3rd, but that one KD evened it all out. the rest of the fight was relatively even. manny hurt him again in what.. the 10th? and im pretty sure that his straight left won a couple close rounds on the judges scorecards.
Nice analysis, Baller.
a clean right hand by marquez would differ...

I just about never will call a round even, because I always feel that one was at the very least slightly better than the other. That said, Round 11 could've definitely be even for me.
I've stated in many threads already...I had round 1 even...nobody won that round straight up....it was a feeling out process and both guys landed a few but nothing effective.
That's cool Raesaad. I agree with you btw. It was a feel out round, neither fighter did much; therefore I scored it even as well. Also, I thought it was VERY obvious that this was a VERY EVEN round so I guess I don't understand how someone can score it for either fighter. At what point does the person who scored the 1st round for either fighter say, "Yeah, Pac won that round?" I just don't see how one comes to that conclusion in such an obvious round where it was close.
To me there is nothing wrong with scoring a round even if you can't decide who won it. Boxing has out a stigma on even rounds that I believe is causing bad decisions. If you don't really know who won the round then you'll just end up giving it to the fighter you like better.
Yeah, I agree. In close rounds, it's VERY difficult to decide who won. I'd just assume call the round even. There are just too many variables that come into play.
If fighter A lands 2 more punches than fighter B (according to Compubox) but figher B's punches look like they landed better overall, who do you give the round to? It all becomes so complicated when the round looks very close. It's like one big merry go round.
I usually score rounds even if I feel they are too close but tonight I felt comfortable enough with picking a winner in each round so that is exactly what I done.

O.k., well, point taken. I don't disagree with what you're saying about other deciding factors. But, I still say there were a couple of even rounds in this fight. JMO.

na i hardly ever score even rounds and think its a cop out. rounds can be close but thats why you have to judge on other stuff such as defense, ring generalship and all that. i didnt see any even rounds tonight, close yes, but there were deciding factors.
