In a recent interview compiled by DoghouseBoxing's Vikram Birring, fans of our website got the chance to get up close and personal with Paulie "Magic man" Malignaggi. Our readers didn't toss Malignaggi any soft ball questions and in return Malignaggi didn't hold back any punches. Bottom line: The fans made for an excellent interview and Malignaggi certainly did not dissapoint.
One reader from DoghouseBoxing asked Malignaggi what does he think of the blatant ducking of Junior Witter by
Ricky Hatton for the last 7 years?
Malignaggi feels Hatton's avoidance of Witter is disgraceful and added his opinion that Hatton would get KO'ed by Witter. Malignaggi tells DoghouseBoxing: "I think it’s disgraceful, I think Witter would KO Ricky Hatton, but a lot of things in this business are disgraceful."
Malignaggi was then asked who in his opinion has the guts to fight Witter apart from himself?
Malignaggi stated: I think Witter is going to have to fight his mandatories for now because I don’t see anyone else in the division fighting him. Too much risk for too little money. I think Timothy Bradley is his next mandatory and I was in the amateurs with him. I think he is a good fighter but I do not think he beats Junior Witter."
Will you fight Witter in May and if not WHY NOT?
PM: No, at the moment I’m in negotiations for an Ndou rematch which will be on the undercard of Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight, personally I think its a waste of time but because it is in my contract I do not feel like going to court and being sued. I will probably have a fight with Ricky Hatton in the fall if both of us are successful in May. I think Witter is a tremendous fighter, but they pay more to fight Ricky Hatton these days
Paulie, what do you think about Junior Witter? Do you feel you have a style that can offset his strengths?
PM: I think Junior Witter would be a tough fight for ANYONE including ME, But at the same time I think with my experience that I have gained over my 25 pro fights I think that me and my team can come up with a game plan to beat him.
Who do you see as the most competition to ruling the 140 lb. division?
PM: JUNIOR WITTER!!
Do you feel it is blatant that Hatton is avoiding Witter and would you be willing to tackle him instead?
PM: I think its OBVIOUSLY very blatant that Hatton is avoiding Witter, I mean think about it he was bringing guys from out of the country like Vince Phillips, Dennis Pederson, and Ben Tackie when Junior Witter was just down the street waiting for a fight the whole time.
Are you tired of all these questions about Witter. Well here's one more. Do you think Hatton is scared of Witter, much the same way Witter was scared when he fought Judah?
PM: I think Hatton is SHIT scared of Witter, the thing about the Judah fight is that Witter took it on 9 days notice!! And had never fought more then 6 rounds in his career until that night. The fact that he was winning on 2 scorecards after 6 rounds is something he should be credited for more then knocked about. Judah at the time was considered a very hot World Champion. I believe Witter is getting the short end of the stick in this business cause the people he has been signed with have not had a lot of pull. And this is business its not about who the best fighter is its about WHO THEY KNOW!! .
A Hatton-Malignaggi fight would be interesting. The winner of course would be whoever can fight their fight. Paulie had trouble with Herman on the inside. If he hasn't improved there I think Hatton beats him in a close fight.
Paulie sounds like he wants to make it happen by bashing Hatton.
.................
The problem is not with those that said before the fight Hatton would lose (even if they were hatton fans)...
because Mayweather is better....
but with those that said before the fight Hatton will crush Mayweather and now after the fight say.......
Well Mayweather is the best in the world so Hatton should have lost.....
dont say that after the fight......ya bloody pikes!!!!
exposed as a punk.. not on the level he was claiming to be.. 'ahma do this ahma do that, my heart gonna explode before Floyd beat me' :ugh:
hows Shitman gonna fight Lazcano with that pacemaker he had fitted after Floy bussed him up? thats what i wanna know..
and paulie was exposed as a young ass fighter with minimal power going the distance with an angry selfhating maricon brute after being buss up bad and doing it with more courage than Hatton will ever show in the ring.. since Hatton only likes to fight opponents he expects he can bully..
face facts piglet.. Shitman would not last the distance with Cotto.. not even at jr welter.
What kind of idiot are you?
this is what exposed looks like..
Er... getting beaten by the concensus best fighter in the world after moving up in weight is what "exposed" looks like? Hey Ricky Hatton, we exposed you as not as good as the concensus best fighter in the world!
secondly hatton didnt KO tszyu, kostya retired on his stool cos he was exhausted and old.
And then went to hospital to deal with massive internal bleeding and swelling in his brain. Wow, he must have been really exhausted.
a prime tszyu would blow hatton all the way back to fucking manchester.
Hahaha the fight was in Manchester dipshit.
Would witter have fought hatton immediately after he lost to zab judah i doubt it, i think if you asked hatton privately why he isn't fighting witter straight away he would admit it is a hard fight to come back from a loss, its not rocket science, people who say hatton has always avoided witter tend to forget that hatton is 5 years hatton's senior.
If Witter had gotten on with his career better, and progressed faster he probably would have gotten his shot at hatton, only got himself to blame in that sense. He was calling out Hatton after he beat jon thaxton for the british title when hatton was still a prospect and witter was 25/26.
Either way i think they'l fight I dont think Hatton is scared of him, he probably wants to fight at madison square garden whilst he is still in his prime which is why he is going in the direction of malignaggi, which you can't blame hatton for or call him a coward as malignaggi is a stylistic nightmare for hatton.
Witter was offered the fight and turned it down. Maussa and Urango were title holders which Witter wasn't until recently.
Witter and Hatton will have a showdown next year, but Witter needs to pick up another belt so it can be a unification after Hatton takes Malignaggi's. This way they both can get paid properly as GBP can promote it as a unification. Hatton will beat Witter, I have no doubt about that, but it will be a boring fight.
Witter needs to fight Rees (who's willing) and/or Torres.
All those unification dreams stop with Pauli Malinaggi. The Magic Man will give him a boxing lesson. Unlike Floyd, Paulie uses his legs even more. #39 will have a hard time holding this guy.
So fresh/brand new title holders like Carlos Maussa and Juan Urango deserve a shot at Hatton but another title Holder in Witter doesn't?

Witter is a nobody and after his embarrassing loss to the glass jawed Judah, he was damaged goods.
As I've asked repeatedly here without a legitimate answer, why has Witter not fought the top fighters to earn his shot at Hatton?
Compare Hattons resume to Witters and you will laugh at the difference in competition over the last 10 fights.

My theory is that the fight has already been agreed in principle, so Paulie is selling it. Witter is a different situation, he's been popping up in interviews, crashing Hatton's victories and generally being a dick. Put it this way: By his own admission when someone asks him how he is he replies "I'm still black". Can anyone like a complete cunt like that?

I want to know why Hatton is fighting Paulie. He won't fight Witter because he has been trashing him, so doesn't want to give him a career high payday. Every interview i see with Paulie he is ripping Vicky a new one but he wants to fight him and give him a career high payday. Way to contradict yourself.

Wooooooah Paulie! Do you actually wanna fight Hatton? Don't forget, Hatton doesn't fight people that slag him off, so you're talking yourself out of a big pay day here mate!
Hatton = ducker

Paulie is just the same as Hatton, by admiting Witter is too big of a risk, with little reward. Paulie would not fight him at this point, and this has been the case for Hatton over the past 5 years...there has always been a bigger fight that pays more money.
But I have no doubts that Witter beats ricky and eats paulie for lunch.
Paulie should watch when he's dismissing his opponents like that. There will be two boxing lessons learned if Paulie fights Hatton: 1. Hatton's faster and 2. You have to be able to punch at the top level.
Malinnaggi is a joke who was exposed in his fight with Cotto and that nobody he just fought who he was supposed to beat easily, but had to rely on a gift decision victory.
Witter is 34 and has fought ONE (at the time) good fighter, Judah, and got owned, plus he has 2 draws against nobodies. Tszyu KO's Judah in 2 and Hatton KO'd Tszyu.
The bitter-Witter hype if funny because if he wanted to fight Hatton he would've stepped up his competition a decade ago to force a fight and since "money" means nothing to Junior, he should have taken Hattons "peanuts" offer when it was offered, since he's only looking for recognition. Witter ducked Hatton when it came down to signing the contract and that's the fact.
Hatton should hire Witter to spar with to prepare him to destroy Malinaggi. Witter could use the money and has the time since he will not fight anybody...
this is what should happen.
Paulie and Hatton should fight, Paulie should give Hatton a stylistic lesson and then Paulie and Witter should fight.......... leaving Hatton with his career nowhere, froze out and on the outside lookin in on a big unification fight at MSG between Witter and Malinaggi.
but i'd like to see Hatton humbled even more.
he's been given all the advantages and opportunities over Witter, even when they were on the same promotions company books. Hatton has been pampered sheltered and treated like a prince. Witter is painted as someone who is not respecting his superiors and should get back in his place just for trying to make a fight happen. bullshit. Witter is a million times the fighter that Hatton is.
all Witter wants to do is fight. Hatton is just lying to the sport and his fans and denying another boxer the shot he deserves. Hatton doesnt even have to be honest and admit that he knows Witter would destroy him and leave his legacy in bits and pieces. he should just make some excuse to cover his pale sickly ass. but whatever excuse he makes it shouldnt degrade Witter like the excuse he's makin now, BS about how Witter hasnt done enough or isnt worthy. who is Lazcano? nobody, thats who.
what goes around comes around. my bro Witter will get what he deserves. and so will Hatton. watch it happen.
its all about he who laughs last.
Probably Hatton.....he is a multi-millionaire.
I agree with some of what you say, I hope Witter gets the fight, he deserves th big payday.
The fact that Hatton says he won't give him that is really fucking spiteful...bad karma all the way for Hatton
I like Paulie he is a funny, articulate guy.
But.......I swear in round 3 against Ngoudjo his cornerman was re-styling his hair!
look good,feel good,baby!
Paulie is cool, and he speaks the truth in this one.I would love to see him beat Hugman.and I think he can
