Will Calzaghe and Pacquiao win their upcoming fights against fellow Top 10 P4P opponents JMM & Hopkins?
And if so, will either one overtake Floyd as P4P King due to his inactivity in 2008?
Discuss.
I said no considering that I expect both of them to lose (more so pacquiao then Calzaghe) their upcoming fights.
Could be if Mayweather doesn't fight Cotto in 09.
Even though it's possible they both could lose and therfore guarantee safety to Floyd's inactive P4P reign, I only have Calzaghe losing by some kinda close decision.
I would pick JMM to beat Pacquiao as well BUT The Pacman already proved me wrong in beating Barrera again. And Barrera did pretty good against Marquez before that.
If Calzaghe beats Hopkins and then drops back down to SMW (which he's hinted at) for a big money fight with Pavlik then I think he'll be knocking on Floyd's door.
A lot of ifs there, tho. Not to mention the choices Floyd makes in the next 12-18 months.

But the point of the thread was if they did win? so you voted no because you thought they'd lose when the point is what if they won? :S

Dont want to side track this thread but PBF has no PPV reign. DLH is the PPV King. DLH vs a fighter would do more than PBF vs that same fighter.
The new PPV king after DLH will be a KO artist, either some HW, MW, or possibly even as low as WW. Even the greatest most guaranteed to be entertaining fights at the lower weights (below WW) never make huge PPV numbers so I doubt Pac can take the crown.
Most likely contenders are Peter (KO style), Haye (if he can keep his power at HW), Pavlik, Cotto.
If you're not trying to side track this thread then why even bring up PPV and the economics of boxing?
But lets just this break down anyway:
Clearly nobody can compete with Oscar in PPV numbers who is still active. In the PPV world, there is guys Oscar and Tyson and then there is everybody else Floyd is the next big guy after Oscar in terms of PPV. The only way to compare Floyd to Oscar in PPV is their May5th, 2007 fight to Oscar's 1999 fight vs Trinidad. Obviously Floyd-Oscar did more PPV's and nobody can say that it's all because of Oscar since we all know the PPV success of Tito-Oscar wasn't all due to Oscar either.......Tito had something to with that as Floyd did.
I also disagree that someone like Samuel Peter will become a PPV attraction, not gonna happen.
i dunno. i rate my p4p list by who i think would win an imaginary fight if they were the same size, and i think Mayweather would beat them both
That's cool but it doesn't work that way anymore. You see, orignally that's how the mythical p4p thing got started because of Sugar Ray Robinson and his ability to move up in weight and win fights.
Through time, the meaning of p4p has changed and now it's not only about skills BUT what you do with them. Of course if you're a champion, you remain that way until somebody takes it from you in the ring.
But in terms of P4P, it's like the Billboard charts, you can drop off if somebody's hits get more popular then yours.
They are both seriously knocking at that p4p door. If pbf doesn't step up the comp after the DLH bout there could be a very good case for one of them to take the top spot.

Yes. Both Calzaghe and Pacquiao are figting P4p ranked fighters who are considered better or close to them in P4p ratings. It depends how they win their next fight (if they do of course).
just rewatched the Ndou fight last night and i felt so sorry for NDou :(
he was totally dominated and what really caught my attention was. PBF was effectively blocking ndous JAB!!!!!!! he cant do anything i didnt see anything landed from NDOU. that was really unfair.
It was really sad that PBF said: "you gonna be champion, you gonna be champion"
thats pure hypocrisy!!
BTW
PBF is #1 until he loses he's a freak :D
I don't know in 2008... if Floyd pulls this shit in 09, then it is primetime for one of those fighters to jump him.
The problem is, with Juan Diaz losing, there isn't much competition up to the level of Marquez and Hopkins around their divisions.
Pacquiao could fight Hatton, but that would be borderline suicide. Truly, that is about it for established champions around their weights, so I don't know.
Honestly, Cotto might be in a position to take P4P #1 with so much talent at 147. If he cleans it up in 2 years, I can't imagine that he doesn't make his way up to at least #3, but he could go as high as #1.
