Nate used his head just about as much as he used his jab. If you look closely at the sixth round, Diaz was already cut when Nate hit him with that left hand that the HBO crew claims cut him on the left eye. Nate had headbutted him just before and that caused the cut.
He deserved the decision but I still wonder what the fight would've been like if Juan had not been cut in the sixth round by a headbutt.
That headbutt seemed intentional in the first round, an old veteran trick. Plus he came off as a real unpersonable asshole, but that doesnt matter so much.
Yes, the headbut in the first round was clearly intentional. They were clinched and you can clearly see Nate move his head towards JD's head with malicious intent. The same for the headbutt in the sixth round that caused the cut.
Juan wasn't really using elbows, he was using his forearm to create distance. There is a difference, but both are illegal. And, most of Juan's holding came after the 6th round, when his vision was degraded out of his left eye. Not that it's a good reason to hold, but I can understand.
they were fighting inside..
Exactly! I rewatched the fight today and in rounds 3 and 4 you can really see Juan using his elbow to create room like Mayweather does.
And they were both trying to slug at each other so of course their heads would come together.
If someone headbutts me intentionaly I would headbutt right back. I have to eat my words because in another thread I stated that campbell would never be champion. I stand corrected. JD put up a brave fight, but that legally open eye did him in.
...And as far as the guys bumpin heads...they fought at close quarters all night so heads will bang...
This is what I feel as well. I don't think either fighter was using dirty tactics. As you said, when you fight inside like that these things are going to happen.
In any case, I thought both boxers fought a great fight.

I disagree, head butts were accidental due to their styles and their idea of pushing the other man back. If anything I saw an elbow here and there more than head butts, Campbell is a true veteran.

Quit bitchin. Give the journey man credit for fuck sake. JD lost to a better man.
Give the man credit (Cambell). No excuses needs to be made for Diaz. He fought the fight of his life.
At the age of 35 and being a grandfather, he beat a young unbeaten tough fighter that was in his prime and was the recognized lightweight champion. What you seen wasn't dirty fighting, it was called brilliance and experience. He knew that the young Juan Diaz had never been in any rugged fights like that so he gave him his first test, and he failed. Hopefully he will take this experience and learn from it to become a better well rounded fighter.
man i was hoping Juan would eventually step up. I hate seeing cocky guys like that win.
i think you gotta problem distinguishing "Cockyness" from "Confidence"
don't worry, 85% of the planet suffers from that same illness!!!
And as far as the guys bumpin heads...they fought at close quarters all night so heads will bang!!! itz part of the game! Diaz got beat up by and grand pa' a decade older than him, and thatz not cool! Campbell talked it then walked it like a champ, like i guy who been there before!
It's not Campbell's fault. He tried to stay away from Diaz but Juan kept sticking the top of his head under Cambell's chin, like he is trying to uppercut him with his head.
They both were dirty. That's the price you pay when you stand next to each other trying to bang away. On top of that, Juan did alot more holding that Campbell did but the ref didn't say nothing.
Even Campbell at one point said, "He is the one holding ref" but he ignored him.
I'm not disputing the decision. I had Nate well ahead at the end of the fight, but he kept heatbutting Diaz when they were in close. Diaz did push off a lot, and he used a few forearms here and there, but Nate was hitting him with his head at least 3-4 times a round. Not only that, he was also rubbing his head against Diaz every time they were close enough.
Campbell looked well-trained and on his A-game. He didn't have to resort to the dirty tactics to win.
    .....

i hope you all dont think this fight plays out the same way if Diaz was not cut. Who can fight with that sort of cut?
Katsidis did it(even worse) as well vasquez and many others. T'was a clear win anyway no doubt. If u truly are a champion, you'd conqueror all adversity of any sort. respect. give credit where credit is due.
He was fighting dirty, and definitely deserved the point deduction. I dont think that changes the outcome though, I really dont. Campbell looked prepared for 15.
