I still say Peter is the second best HW behind Wlad.
C'mon man Chagaev?? Got to be 2nd best heavyweight after the McCline fiasco. I know Peter has power and not bad speed but the stamina and boxing IQ might need a little work. Chagaev fought a technical fight over Valuev and Virchis and is a hard hittin southpaw, gots to be 2nd in the division.
Perhaps.
K and how would you be disrespecting me? lol.
My fault, should been specific, I meant no disrespect to Mccline. My thoughts and typing were clouded by beer last night.
Care to bet all of your points on Maskaev to win? You sound so confident.
uh,,,,,Ive been picking peter to win by kayo. maskeav is too old and has been too inactive
maskeav is actually the harder puncher believe it or not. his punches are shorter with more snap. peter hasnt been able to kayo anyone below the class c level. maskeav has knocked out guys like derrick jefferson,,eilisier castillo,,,rahman twice and robert hawkins who went the distance with peter

to get knocked out by peter's wild, winging, style.
Right but Peter hasn't been doing that full time lately.
He's been boxing.....I mean based on his last 2 fights.........

I'm not sure it was the resolve Peter, as it was Mccline just not being good at anything really. No disrespect, but even Holyfield probably could have finished Peter off in such a position.

I'm not referring to the actual knock down round itself. I'm referring more to the Peter making the adjustments and out boxing Mccline after that.
I mean sure McCline didn't finish Peter, but it's not always easy to finish someone in a fight. People get over excited and end up gassing themselves, or throwing themselves way out of rhythm.
Yeah Peter was out.
But after he did literally wake up, he started showing more of the "New" Peter. The guy who can actually box.
And he looks pretty solid also in my opinion.

Maskaev's chin definitely won't hold up to his shots lol.
Plus he's stationary and Peter is getting better, and better at...........actually boxing. Something that I think should have surprised everyone based on his performances against Toney and McCline.
I mean hate on him getting floored 3 times in 1 round. But he did show great resolve against a huge guy, and used his superior substance as a fighter to outclass McCline

ESB is a European site, so that is to be expected. The logic I follow says 39 year olds do not beat 27 year old number 1 contenders. There is a reason Dennis Rappaport filed so many frivolous lawsuits to prevent this fight.
If Peter had not fought McCline, I'd say Peter KO4 Maskeav, not to downplay Maskeav, but Peter prior to that had shown true promise and power. After seeing him literally unravel, I'd say it's about an even call. Maskeav may pull the upset, gunning for a KO due to Peter's performance against "Big Time". All I know is, I'm always glad when there is more than 1 good boxing matchup and I don't have to pay ppv dollars for it.
Im glad that most people here know boxing. On esb there was a thread like that and more people picked Maskaev to win than Peter.

Peter will stop him in about 8 rounds. Maskaev is not taller than Peter so he will not use the uppercut on the inside, which was the punch that MCcline hurt him with. Peter also has the advantage in hand speed and punching power.
Maskaev will try to box but i see Peter eventually catching up with him and stopping him. Oleg's slow hands and poor footwork is going to cost him in this fight.
Maskaev also has a weak chin. All of his 5 losses are by knockout. Oliver MCcall, Kirk Johnson, Corry Sanders, Lance Goofy Whitaker, and David Tua.

It wasn't Corrie Sanders who KO'd Maskaev but Corey "T-Rex" Sanders.
Maskaev was also KO'd by 'Goofi' Whitaker and Kirk Johnson. All of them are mediocre fighters.
That's in the past though, he showed some ability to take punishment against Rahman.
But... he is too damn old and inactive to bet on, no one can really expect how he will perform.
those string of knockout losses to maskeav all happened in succession. it seemed more like he lost his confidence after the johnson fight,,then having a glass chin. his chin obviously is no better than average though
The real question is, after the play-it-safe unification against Ibragimov, does Klitschko have the mentality to get back into the ring with Peter, if he wins, and try and take the title from him..?
peter isnt an awckward counter punching southpaw that crouches low,,so wlad shouldnt have any trouble shooting his right hand off. the bigger question is,,,does manny have him clinch peter every time theyre inside again. I sure hope not,,,I'd like to see wlad take peter out with his hook
Maskaev is about 3 inches taller than Peter last time I checked.
You mean he was stopped by feather fisted Tua (16 first rd KOs, including Moorer and Ruiz, Maskaev's 11th fight BTW and he still went 11 rds), McCall (KO'd Lennox Lewis) and Sanders (18 first round KO's)? Wow, he must have a glass jaw.
Do you really think Peter hits harder than Rahman? And Oleg lasted 20 rds in there with him before stopping him twice.
Anyway, I think it'll be a closer fight than you think, even though Maskaev is 39 and hasn't fought in 15 months.
Peter was actually listed as being 6'2 when he knocked out Tarus Sikes on show time. Boxrec and other sites has the states wrong. They also listed Chad Dawson at 6'3 when he is only 6'1 and Joe Louis as 6'2 when he said himself that he was 6'1.
The Corry Sanders that knocked out Maskaev has only 15 knockouts. Hes not the Sanders that knocked out Klitschko. He was a lesser opponets that Maskaev was suppose to beat.
Also, MCcall is not that big of a puncher. He caught Lennox when he wasn't expecting the punch and that was back when Lewis had a shaky chin.
Lance Whitaker knocked out Maskaev with a soft short right hand that shouldn't have had that effect on him.
Also, yes, Peter hits a lot harder than Rachman and has the better knockout percentage.
If you think that Maskaev will win, then why don't you bet?
