At the very end of the fight when Marquez started getting beaten into the corner... I thought the ref was gonna wave him off in the last 5 seconds of the fight...
Oh i was happy with the standing 8 count, it was deserved... but by the look of marquez I feared he would wave him off and not let him finish the last 5 seconds of the fight...
it was NOT a standing 8 count. there is a difference between a standing 8 count and a mandatory 8 count.
The referee handled it perfectly. If there were no ropes, Marquez would clearly have been down. That justifies a mandatory (not standing) eight count. Klitschko should have had a knockdown the week before against Ibragimov for the same reason.
Yeah Ibragimov got HANDLED on that one combination from Wlad...
Disgusting... (Steele & DK)
Don King is one of the most hideous figures in boxing... Ali's late fights, his screwing fighters of money, the robberies he's been involved with....

I think plenty of refs would have stopped the fight, but this ref made the right call b/c of the importance of this fight, last rd, & he just heard the 10 second bell; so he did right not to stop the bout! The knock down call was correct b/c if it wasn't for the corner (ropes) Marquez would have been on the seat of his pants...
Pretty much how I feel...

The ref saved his ass actually. Vasquez was going in for the kill. Marquez being off balance was in no position to defend himself.

Julio Cesar Chavez was a Don King promoted fighter and Richard Steele was said to be a 'Don King referee'. Some felt that Richard Steele stopped certain fights too early (a few Tyson fights for example, like Tyson vs Ruddock I).
Taylor's trainer Duva didn't want Steele to referee the fight because he felt Steele would be biased towards the Don King fighter Julio Cesar Chavez.
Was it known before the fight that Duva did not want Steele?
Theres always the Mike Tyson Slow count theory.. where SUPPOSEDLY tyson got screwed
Hmm, watching the fight I always thought that was bullshit...
Also, it became decisive only when Tyson got KOed later on during the fight.
Another thing has to be said, DK is famous for signing contracts where he takes control of the winner's career (I doubt that was the case with Douglas, but it should be kept in mind)

One again, manchine comes through.... Gotcha
What do you mean? School me... I dont know the background stuff behind the taylor fight...

No man no schooling. Just cheap conspiracy theory on my part.
Some of the higheeset profile robberies I have seen always had DK's fighter on the ”lucky“ side. JC-Taylor 1, JC-Pea, Oscar-Tito...
In fact I cannot think of one where the DK fighter gets the shaft.

i dont think anyone disagrees when saying that if the ref wouldnt have stepped in, Marquez could have seriously been hurt. His left arm was in between the ropes and his right was pretty much holding on to the ropes leaving his face open for Vazquez to tenderize. He could have landed atleast 4 bombs at that point. Any of which can have serious consequences. Regardless, still one of the best finishes I've ever seen and its annoying that after such an amazing finish to the trilogy, people still rather gossip and talk about Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Your absolutely right.

That was not going to happen, Don King was not Vazquez's manager.
EDIT: and even if he was he doesnt have that type of power anymore

The standing 8 is different, Marquez was held up by the ropes. When a fighter is in the center of the ring and gets sent to a ropes and the only thing that holds him up is the ropes, it's a knockdown.
