Kessler lost a UD to Calzaghe. I'm convinced he would've won if not for injuring his hand and thereby missing 2 weeks of the most impotant sparring leading up to the fight.
Here's an abstract from doghouseboxing:
'GM: Do you come away from it reevaluating your style or the things you could have done?
MK: Yeah. Of course. The things I could have done different. You always look at that. But as I say, I don’t want to come with bad excuses. That’s why I said after the fight I don’t have any problems with my hands in the fight. But I had it like three weeks before the fight. But I know for the next fight, everything has to be 100%. And I feel that now I lost one fight out of my forty fights, now I know that next time I will be ready. Now I know how to not get so many injuries. I can only get better from my loss and be a better fighter.'

Injury? He had some old scar tissue removed from his hand after the fight, it annoyed him for a while.. Its not like he was disabled..
Sparring or no sparring, Kessler fought. It didn't look like he was protecting his right hand in particular, and in the first 5 rounds Kesslers defensive style worked very well IMO. Calzaghe was amazing in turning a fight around that seemed lost pre-round 6. Kesslers corner made him continue in his defensive style, that is btw the only post-fight criticism/excuse we really heard in Denmark, when Kessler at last proved he could battle it out in round 12.
I know Kessler/Calzaghe II wont happen, but if it did, the so called injury wouldn't make the difference, and the previous fight wouldn’t look anything like the first. Calzaghe would know he couldn’t beat Kessler at the distance and not waste 5rounds trying, and Kessler would know to throw all tactics away and prepare for battle all the way.
It was pretty clear who was the winner in the first fight. This topic is silly.
Sure he lost. Slaps count in Wales.
yawn, yawn, yawn......All fighters tend to give excuses after the fact. We could pick over many parts of every fight. Here's one for you, if the ref hadn't intervened after Joe hurt Mikkel with that body shot, joe would have stopped him... what if Joe's hands weren't fucked and he was able to load up on Kesslers body at full (pre broken hand) power etc, etc, etc.....
Kessler will rule SMW in a few years, but would have lost that fight whatever, stop whining and look forward to Kessler's future
Sure he lost. Slaps count in Wales.
We got a nuthuger/hater in da house!
Calz missed almost all his sparring for loads of fights cause of his hands so ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
What the Fuck.. Kessler fans should shut the fuck up. I hate it when some people like Batman being to abnormal... Whether his injured or not stop biting Kessler's Dick and shut your mouth!. Kessler LOST and even If they fight up again Joe will beat him anytime of the day with an easy UD 12....
Sure he lost. Slaps count in Wales.

I think he would have done much better if his sparring wasn't impotent.
explain how he would have won though like Melly-Mel said he would still have gotten outboxed ,u cant hit what aint there to be hit
As I said originally: 2 weeks of the most important sparring down down the drain... Any top pro would say that it'll cost you dearly.
Perhaps u don't know Frank Warren. If team Kessler asked for a postponement the fight would definetely be off and Kessler would have missed a career payday.

Joe missed a lot of sparring before the Lacy fight due to injury, and it didn't affect his performance.
Kessler would not have taken the fight with little sparring unless he still felt at least 99%.
No Kessler was beating Joe that night, Joe was just too good, he had that extra gear and changed his style about 4 or 5 times.

Yeah it wasn't even close anyway. Calzaghe could have even knocked Kessler out in the 8th.
Kessler certainly wouldn't fight with through any injury in such a high stake bout.
He could of postponed the fight for 2 weeks, it's not Joe's fault. Joe beat him so convincingly I don't think it would matter what Kessler showed up. Calzaghe was/is simply better than him.
He said before the fight he had no such hand injuries and he certainly didn't fight like he did so therefore there is no need to speculate about this anymore. It's the same thing when he had a back injury against Mundine, it's his fault if it costs him.
How? He was throwing bombs all night, he obviously fought through the pain.
Calzaghe is just better. Besides, Calzaghe is 36 years old, it could be said that Joe would of KOed Kessler if he was 28 but no one is making excuses.
Any fighter will tell u that losing 2 weeks of sparring leading up to an important fight is devastating. Not Kessler though. A class act.

yah, uh.....no he would not have won! i like kessler alot, but he would have lost 10 of 10 times! the injuries had nothing to do with kessler getting outboxed! he was totally dominated by joe. his hands had little to do with the outcome. hurt or not his punches were not landing!
