Obviously there have been some good trilogies over the years in boxing. Recently Morales-Barrera and Gattie-Ward. Leonard-Duran before that, Ali_Frasier before that. Where does this trilogy rank among the all time greats?
My opinion: one of the best ever.
That is pretty incredible. Thoughts on whether II or III is the highlight?
Probabaly III.
It went longer.
Knockdowns for both fighters.
The ticking timebomb of a cut for Vazquez.
The question of whether Marquez would be able to outbox Vazquez for enough of each round to win him the round despite him being hurt almost every round.
It just had everything.
It was also more competitive. I thought the first fight was pretty clearly Marquez's, even though he did get knocked down. The second fight had Vazquez controlling the momentum for the most part. The third one really was one of the best back-and-forth battles I have ever seen.
I can't believe Marquez-Vazquez I is going to be considered the weak point of this trilogy!

Clearly better than Bowe-Holyfield and Gatti-Ward, and that is saying a lot.
I'd say that it was probably on par with Barrera-Morales.
I haven't seen the ones that happened pre-1990, so I'm not the best to talk to.
The action and skill levels were even between Barrera-Morales and Vazquez-Marquez (I might have to change the order of their names after this decision).
The in-ring storylines (cuts, knockdowns, etc.) definately go to Vazquez-Marquez.
The out-of-the-ring storylines (personal hatred, regional and socioeconomic differences, etc.) definately go to Barrera-Morales.
I cannot believe how good these three fights were.
