HBO rejected opponents bailey, ndou, urango and ngoudou. they should have let the ngoudou fight go ahead. who is else is available to fight?
this is a damn shame. witter will now fight in May.
It's a sad state of affairs when the WBC champ can't get a good fight. I understand that Witters style might not be to everyones taste, i like him personally, but he's not that boring. He's a good technical fighter with good physical attributes, if you put him in there against an offensive fighter it is guaranteed to be entertaining IMO. So he wasn't great against Judah, big deal, it was ages ago and he was very green - i don't see why this is held against him so much.
nah, you are! 1 month or a week ayala would have came to fight, witter did not! thats it! end of this. i am out. cheers!
It does matter, anyways, we're not going to get anywhere and I got to go as well. It's been nice debating, not being sarcastic.
He took the fight on 1 months' notice, not 1 weeks'.
I'm really not that big of a Witter fan, it's just that I find your statements wrong.

oh so that prevented him from making it a fight? ok, yiou are clearly just going to defend him forever! cool! here is a recent one, ayala stepped in and fought mora to a draw and made the fight a very good fight, now he earned himself a shot against arthur abraham! this is the same guy who lost 2x to david banks! alot of people noticed him, and remember him after t hat fight! he may not be very great, neither is mora, but he was supposed to be garbage, and not give mora any problem. plus he took the fight last minutet, and MADE THE MOST of it!

Short notice has a lot to do with it, a fighter can't prepare for a fighter like Judah on a weeks' notice, you still haven't named a fighter yet.

really what does short notice have to do with it! thats another bs reason. if you take a fight, and fight ur balls off and make a good showing win or lose you will for sure look like a guy people get excited about, and will remember. regardless of all the what if factors, at the end of the day your fighting is what matters, and making the most of ANY big opportunity that presents itself, and being a true warrior will help yopu alot more than it will ever hurt a man!

I read it. I'm saying how many fighters have taken a fight on a weeks' notice and come out with better stock than he had before the fight.

if u read my post earlier than u would know that i said even if witter in defeat put on a good showing that he would have still made a name. but he chose to run for 12 rds, and stayed outside, hardly engaging, and making for a very dull and boring fight.

Then give me a fighter that had a week's notice that came out of a fight with higher stock than he went into the fight with. You name one, I'll concede defeat.

ok, disagree! but say he would have won the fight! than what? if he would have wnet on and been ultra sucessful you wouldn't complaing about that though would you? getting a break is not always something that is gonna be advantageous and you have to rise to the occasion and seize the opp! gimme a break, it takes hard work, and persistance to make it. you don't put limits, or make excuses. you go hard, and earn your striped. your arguement is full of excuses, and weak. a shot against zab at the time ws huge, and regardless of what you think it was important to his career!

I disagree, people will not remember for his loss to Judah because they will see he has pulled out respectable wins against respectable opposition since that time, besides, accepting a fight against Judah on 9 days notice is not considered your big break, it's considered throwing him in against a top level fighter at the time and expecting him to lose.

ok well maybe he had his break and blew it than! he had only 9 days i know to prepare for zab, but even in a loss he fought a very safe, running away type fight imo. perhaps that turned fans off, and if he had been more exciting, and gave a better showing that he would have developed into a known name, even in defeat? i dunno, but if you get a shot like this and don't seize it, you may never get a shot again! people can come and defend him all they want, but this was a big shot, and he was not ultra impressive to people, and they will remember him, and mark him for this regardless of the circumstances, or how long ago, or how much better he is now! food for thought!

Hagler didn't make a name for himself until he got his break against Antuofermo and he wasn't a big draw until he fought Hearns.
Witter needs his break to become a draw, all fighters need that break at one time or another in their careers.
Don't misinterpret this as comparing them as fighters.
And you know what the guys you listed have in common? They all won medals in the Olympics and returned as stars already, not everyone can win medals in the Olympics.

This is why it's hard to call boxing even a 'sport' these days.
Witter, a WBC world titleholder and a top ranked light welterweight, can't get fights with other top light welterweights because he can't draw as well as say...eh, I don't even know.
Malignaggi?
He might be the only one who 'draws' more than Witter in the light welterweight division aside from Hatton of course.
This situation is very common in boxing, a talented fighter can't get fights because he can't 'draw'. This is what I dislike in boxing and I'm not afraid to speak about it.
It is just my opinion.
If you want to play a businessman then whatever suits you... but just realize that if it wasn't for certain top fighters having the balls to fight those unknown but talented fighters, you probably wouldn't have guys like Pavlik, Calzaghe, Hagler, etc. listed among your favorites.
all very true, i agree completely.
come on, you make your name early on! this is not something he can just try to do as of now, and overnight! all the big names started young, and built up their names as they went along to what they became at the height of their careers! odlh, pbf, ali, tyson, rjj, all of them!

But how does a fighter get to be a draw is no one is willing to fight him?

The reason he cant get Fights is becasue he isn't a draw.. we could go in circles all night on this one eh??
I will trust the people in the TV business... Witter isn't a draw.. and that is why no one will fight him..

i am well aware of all of it, but AGAIN, i am saying in response to the thread that he is not a draw, and thats why he can not get a date on hbo on his drawing power. i am not sure why you feel the need to justify him, or defend him in this manner! but defending him in this manner, still does not make up for the fact that no one wants to see him fight, which is precisely what this thread, and what i ave written is about. blame all you want, for the reasons you want, but try blaming witter for he is the man who created himself, and put himself in this situation instead of blaming everything else trying to make him look good!

don't sell him to me! i could care less. i am well versed in this sport thanks and you don't have to tell me about witter, and his history. i am well aware of all of it, but AGAIN, i am saying in response to the thread that he is not a draw, and thats why he can not get a date on hbo on his drawing power. i am not sure why you feel the need to justify him, or defend him in this manner! but defending him in this manner, still does not make up for the fact that no one wants to see him fight, which is precisely what this thread, and what i have written is about. now, if you want to play the blame game fine! blame all you want, for the reasons you want, but try blaming witter, for he is the man who has been created by himself. he put himself in this situation. try that instead of blaming everything and everyone else trying to make him look good!
