Lewis vs. Mavrovic has been mentioned as a similar boring safety first performance as Wlad vs. Sultan in several threads.
Max Kellerman suggested during saturdays fight that Lewis coasted doing just enough to take the points win against Mavrovic without trying to take a risk and stop him. Plainly if you watch the fight Lewis landed many many big big shots, Mavrovic had an amazing chin.
Unlike the Wlad fight, Lewis threw a whole range of combinations and rights and engaged toe to toe. Different opponent different stlye true but a stinker, i dont think so. Probably that perception arised out of nobody knowing who Mavrovic was and expecting him to be an easy opponent to be stopped early on the basis of him being European.
another huge difference between the sulty/wladimir fight and the lennox/mavy fight is that wladimir easily dominated with a single hand while lewis had a bit of trouble dispatching his oponent. and yeah, the guy does have a god chin - i have the fight on tape.I dont see any positive sin that for Wlad, he had a guy in front of him he could land on at will when he threw his hands but refused to, interestingly Wlads jab was poor, he spent all his time slapping at Sultans jab with his forearm. At least Lewis tried to finish his guy off, Wlad did nothing against a hapless opponent that truly is barely top 10.

Chuvalo is Canadian.
I didn't find this fight to be a stinker at all Mavrovic could talk a hell of a punch and come back, he gave Lewis more trouble than Lewis expected.
Yeah but his parents were Croatian. Not that Chuvalo ever lived in Croatia.
lennox should have really put the pedal to the medal, you cant let a guy with that haircut survive for 12.
i wonder if sultan will retire after his first loss the way Mavrovic did.
Mavrovic retired because of injuries sustained in boxing fights.
He is successfull businessman in Croatia now.
Mavrovic trained his whole life for this. I'm sure he made another fellow iron-chinned Croatian George Chuvalo proud.

Lewis gave the guy everything he had, but when Navrovic took it all and was able to come back, Lewis figured he wasn't getting rid of this guy. He boxed him to a decision and put on an entertaining bout.
The main difference between Wlad-Ibragimov and this fight is that Lewis fought an offensive fight. He tried to KO the guy. Sometimes you go in there and give a guy everything you have and it just isn't enough to put him away.
true,,,but mavrovich was a conventional fighter unlike the awckward counter punching southpaw in iggy. I think lewis would have also been conservative as he also didnt like to waste punches

Lewis' uppercut made the difference, Ibragimov was open for that punch very often in his fight with Wladimir but Wlad didn't use it.
To be fair, Mavrovic was trying to be aggressive unlike Ibragimov but Wladimir should use more punches like uppercuts and hooks.
He was content on jabbing and launching the occasional right hand but combinations could've put Ibragimov out.
I don't really know what Kellerman was thinking when he described the Mavrovic fight as a dull contest where Lewis coasted to a decision.
Sure, Lewis realized that he couldn't knock the guy out but he did try.
You can also see the difference between Lewis and Wladimir that Lewis was talking about, the athl..lec...tismcism, eh athleticism. Lewis is a lot more unorthodox in the ring, doesn't do everything by the book like they say.
