All the talk of Roy Jones being one of the greatest middleweights of all time and Roy Jones the legend, Roy Jones the best pound for pound in the last 10 years.. Roy Jones stumbled into the middleweight division at the weekest time the division had ever seen.. If Roy was to have fought a few years earlier I don't think he would have ever won a widdleweight championship. Numerous fighters of the 80s would have made Roy look silly. Lets see how many fighters would have beaten him at thesame weight in the previous 10 years I guess we can start off with Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, and Sugar Ray Leonard,Gerald McClellan,Julian Jackson,Nigel Benn,Chris Eubanks,Mike McCallum,John Mugabi,. There is a simple 10 no-doubters. We saw what McClellanan did to Roy as an amatuer. What if he would have hit Roy without Roy wearing the headgear.. Nite-Nite Roy.. Roy should consider himself a very lucky man.
Oh, well I apologize... I thought you meant resigned period...
I apologize...
Very Cool I accept your appology. And I appologize for being so damn sarcastic.. We are both fans of a great sport, or art however you see it.Which is havng a tough time with mma growing leap and bounds as of late.. Lets all stick together and keep boxing alive and strong forever. Your boxing buddy, Lenny.
I would like to straighten out what has clearly been blown out of proportion.. I never stated that RJJ wasn't a great fighter. There is no doubt RJJ was and still is a great fighter.. I never, ever wanted to discredit his accomplishments. I have been enjoying his multinle talents for many years. I only stated that he doesn't belong on any list for greatest middlesweights ever and thought that he was lucky in terms of when he reigned as champ. He did dodge certain fighters and changed weight to avoid a few others. That is just great management. Hats off to Roy and thank you for all the great memories..Never did I ,eam any disrespect. My appologies....
That sure seems to contradict this quote from one of your previous ramblings on this thread:
"He wouldn't have been top 5 on my block growing up.. I would have punked him out of his lunch money daily, That is a fact!!!!"
So which is it? You can't have it both ways.
Roy never retired as champ... he kept fighting, and still is...
This proves you know shit.
End of thread.
Garbage this shit.
This proves that you are a nice, happy and knowledgeable boxing fan. Thanks for being so understandable. I am truly sorry for not agreeing with everything you say at all times. You are my hero.. Please accept my boxing ignorance.. Would you still be my friend? Oh PLease??????????????????
Try to say the right thing and then there are guys like you who either cant read, or just love living as a miserable prick. Tell me somerhing,Mr.rePRICKulous, Who ever said he retired. You need to get off the negative trip. When he reigned as middleweight champ.is what I said.. Sorry for trying to clear things up!!

To discredit his accomplishments because he didnt fight this guy or that is ridiculous... read the sig.. it is what it is...

He's a very good fighter, might be overrated by some but his athleticism and reflexes were incredible not many fighters has the combination of blistering fast combinations that have power behind every single punch, his resume may prevent him from becoming an ATG but considering his physical attributes, he'd give a lot of great fighters trouble and beat a few of them too.

Where is all this Roy disdain stemming from? He is by far one of the best and has been entertaining his whole career and still is at age 39. One of the best.
No one fights like Roy they can only try to imitate him. In his prime I cant see any current or past top fighters beating him.
"only treatment I can reccomend is watch his old fights"
You got it son PRIME Hagler speed although not quite as good as Jones but to the eye you would barely notice.
People think of Hagler the think Duran, Leonard, Hearns i dont i think of prime Hagler late 70s early 80s.
He would fooking destroy Roy Jones, fast, heart, pressure, power much better footwork and had a chin of iron clad granite. He is the greatest 160lb fighter ever.
Prime hagler was not in the arena of speed compared to prime 168 roy...
thats all ill say about it... im not saying roy could beat him...
He's definitley overrated by many people on here. He ducked the likes of Eubank to fight Panzienza!
He's obviously a very good fighter but people who claim he could not have been defeated in his prime are very stupid.

top 5 pfp of all time, you are talking out of your ass. If your not joking then you are truly an idiot. Put down the bong.. RJJ is not in the top 100 all time pfp. A great fighter of his era, would have been considered a decent fighter if he would have fought in a different era.Look at his record?? He has fought who???? He wouldn't have been top 5 on my block growing up.. I would have punked him out of his lunch money daily, That is a fact!!!! Do you like kissing his ass or are you queer for him or what.In my day, Ray Robinson wouldn't have even fought someone who shook his ass, tuanting after the bell every round, and Hagler, Marvelous Marvin would have made Roy piss all over himself. Not even on the same level of fighter. Deal with that you lil sissy. Bitch.. You see my name here pal.. Thats my REAL FUCKING NAME.. I spent twenty years fighting. In and out of the ring. whipped everybody who thought they were tough.. Deal with it!!!!!
Never heard of you. Neither has boxrec.com. You sound delusional.
Well you must of whipped some pussies son coz ive certainly never heard of you. I dont give a fuck who you bullied out of the ring this is boxing son and for a decade RJJ was king, he demonstrated skills that would have fared him well in any era thats just plain obvious to anyone who has seen more than 5 of his fights! To disregard Roy as a great fighter shows complete ignorance and lack of insight and knowledge into boxing, all the greats were beat and even ko'd pal, Robinson, Leonard, Duran, Louis, all of them. You must of taken some serious licks around the head bud coz you been here 5 minutes and your talking smack, showing disrespect and getting slapped with the red
Your absolutely right... who the fuck is larry donald? who the fuck cares really

I am an Italian American,ex fighterqqq
Yeah the TS praised Gerald McClellan in another thread and the last time I checked, the G-Man was black. More often than not, race has nothing to do with someone disliking a certain boxer.
I think the TS believes that Roy Jones was lucky because he did not have to face punchers like Gerald McClellan, Nigel Benn and Julian Jackson and he might be right.
One clean punch from those three could have put Roy's lights out, glass chin or not (I don't think Roy had a 'glass' chin).
This does not mean Roy Jones was overrated. He had a great career.
McClellan vs Roy Jones would have been a great rivalry that could have enhanced the legacy of both fighters.
Yes, nicely written. I would agree. You hit it right on the button.
haha.
It's funny how you listed guys too small to fight Roy............or guys who Roy would just fucking whip ass on.
Deal with it.
He's hands down one of the top 5 Pound for Pound fighters of all time.
His level is the likes of one Ali, or Robinson.
