Most people have this punchstats mentality comparing Bernard's workrate to Joe's and automatically assume that Joe has this fight won.
What about counter punching? If you try to throw too many punches, you're exposing yourself to a counter and we all know Bernard is a brilliant counter puncher. And who's to say that Joe won't get rocked, clocked and taken out if caught by these counter punches?
That should explain my signature below. The way Bernard will reduce the workrate of Joe's is by making him pay with counters. The same way Marquez made Pacquiao pay in their first fight. Will Joe be able to adjust his gameplan if Plan A isn't working throwing alot of punches?
When it comes down to it, we all know that Bernard is a better all around boxer/technician then Joe is..
Fucks sake, you people make out like joe aint got a job and tremendous upper body movement.
He's better than hopkins then and now. Both have questionable resumes but Calzaghe is more versatile and has impressed more over his last few fights
you'll see calzaghe coming out cautiously, everyone thinks he is just going to come out and throw 80 punches a round, that aint going to happen. he will let hopkins dictate the pace of the fight for the first 3 rounds, it will be a chess match. calzaghe has multiple styles but at 43 hopkins has one, and its clinching, fouling and counters. now calzaghe is also a counter puncher so this has the potential to be a very boring fight. calzaghe will go to the body and wear hopkins down over the first half of the fight. Hopkins is going to try and spoil the fight, lead with his head and rough calzaghe up. calzaghe has can box or brawl, this aint going to be a pretty fight but im picking calzaghe to win a close decision.
Calzaghe wearing down Hopkins with bodyshots, haaaa not gonna happen.

his workrate would most def. matter because it will make b-hop a lot slower
B-Hop will keep timing Joe's jabs if and when he starts using it...once Hopkins does that straight right goes down the middle with accumulation...and I'd like to add that Hopkins is great at fighting southpaws because I think they're more prone to all his tricks in the book IMO...and I believe this...in an interview he said a southpaw is a southpaw, doesn't matter who it is. The man is gonna make Joe pay!
Calzaghe will be making the fight.
, like 'queer fighting his way out of spider webs' that you whip out in every thread in an attempt to get others to hail your genius. .
I see somebody has been following my work of art......
WTF did this mutant say?
Calzaghe will be making the fight.
Hopkins will have to be massively accurate.
Mutant? did you make that up all by yourself, like 'queer fighting his way out of spider webs' that you whip out in every thread in an attempt to get others to hail your genius.
Your somewhat of a cunt. Congratulations.
The 'workrate' won't be a factor, is a ridiculous assertion. Of course it is, unless Hops lands more punches than Calzaghe whilst throwing a third of the amount of punches........unlikely.
WTF did this mutant say?
Calzaghe does get hit with straight right hands, this is the only concern.
I'm not as confident a I once was, 80% Calzaghe wins. 20% says Hops lands enough significant right hands so they can hand it to him.

Not only exposure but more money. The most important thing however is your level of greatness. If you look at the all time great lists and historians talking about fighters from all era's, how many do they mention that only fought in Europe?
Are Darius M. , Henry Maske, Sven Ottke gonna be mentioned among the all time greats or just europe's best? And all these guys had multiple title defenses in their career.
Definietly not Sven ottke!!
and Hops wont like it one bit.
If hopkins could suck it up for the Echols fight, I'm pretty sure that he'd be able to handle Joe. I also think that Bernard' dirtyness will get to Joe too as Sakio Bika was able to. (That might have just been because Joe was unprepared though).
I agree. Hopkins is simply too good against southpaws, too good with the lead right hand (which Calzaghe has ate all his life), and too good not to be able to land counter right hands every time Calzaghe falls short with his slappy flurries. He's also going to be stronger than ever, when you get older you can't increase speed but you can increase strength... he'll hurt Calzaghe with every punch and beat him down gradually until he folds.
Calzaghe has great skillz also, but he also benefits from his southpaw stance cause most fighters have some problems with it. Hopkins has no problems with it and he has a great team behind him. Shillstone, the best strenght and conditioning coach and nutritionist, Freddie Roach one of the best trainers ect. For this time he has the best people behind him. Against Winky he just had Roach. When he fought Tarver he had Shilstoen and looked better than in years, now he has em all together, he will have a great camp and h will suprise the people once again.
And remember, Calzaghe is also no spring chciken anymore.
What's the big deal with fighting in america anyway? I agree there's no down side of it and Joe should willing to be able to come over here, but there really isn't that big of a deal unless you want a lot more exposure.

joe can take a punch and i dont know how on earth you say joe does not have as good boxing skills as b-hop.
I think Hops has better skills, even now as an 43 year old. This just shows how great Hopkins is.And hes an great technican but i guess i dont need to tell you that.

As for the 2002 thing, I honestly believe that was a huge miscommunication on that lawyers part. Though even if he had ducked Joe, then why would he want to face him when he's 43 years old and not in his prime?
I'm glad it's taking place now anyway, so it doesn't matter.
edit: what fights did Joe pull out of?
I think him and glen johnson were supposed to fight a couple of times, but both of them kept getting injured.
Really it was supposed to take place in America? I didn't know that. Now we knows why joe keeps pulling out of fights don't we?
