If this fight does happen, who do you have? I have Jones based off the fact that Taylor never throws enough punches and he gets a little sloppy with his left hand after a couple rounds. Taylor's Jab may create problems along with his wide power punches. Taylor also has the advantage of youth but, he gets fatigued rather easily and may really fade during the later rounds . Jones' straight right will bedevil Taylor all night, definitely not a KO but, Jones will win by a pretty wide margin.
Jones will come out confident early but old Roy will soon find out the difference in age between the two and loses a defensive decision to Jermain Taylor.
I want Jones to surprise me because I really want to see him fight Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins again but I can't pick a 39-year old man over a 29-year old.
One must wonder though, how will Taylor respond to the two losses against Pavlik? Will Taylor come out even stronger looking for an impressive KO or a dominant decision? Or will he simply come to survive?
Same with Roy Jones, will he fight like he fought against Tarver in their third fight? Or does he really want to redeem himself and resurrect his career for one last world title try?
I dont think he ll fight like he fought tarver the 3rd time.. can u really blame him for fighting like that... he just been KOed twice... i think its understandable... that was 3 years ago.. hes had 3 wins.. each being better than the last... i think there punchoutput is equal... and roys gonna find his target easier than jermain in my opinion

Let me answer for a few... i wrote these before u guys posted!!!! lol
UltimateBoxa:
Roy has a glass chin and will be knocked out Cold by Jermaine... Jermaine is too strong, and Roy likes to goto sleep way to much... Tito was hitting jones all night... and Roy only fights 2 minutes a round, considering how well jermaine did against Pavlik... beating Tito is BARELY the step up in competition he needs to fight jermain... Taylor KO3 Jones
SlickerSouthpaw:
Theres no way Jones can hang with Jermain at this stage in his career... Im sorry but I think he has stamina problems and cant take a punch... If jermaine connects its lights out for Roy... Back in the day RJJ was GREAT.. but at this point.. he gets knocked out by the younger fresher Jermaine.
Taylor KO2 jones
Moofo:
Roys 39 years old.
Hes been knocked out TWICE.
He beat 2 bums and a washed up, blown up, inactive Trinidad.
Explain to me please, how Roy could even WISH to beat Jermain at this stage in his career...

First Rule of Battle: Know thy enemy. ;)
Me:
I think as far as punch output... there actually pretty even... take into acount how Pavlik just marches in forward in a straight line, pretty much gives Taylor the chance to punch whenever he feels like it....
Fighting roy, he still does things that 85% of everyone overlooks... First off.. he holds his right hand lead Directly in your face... so when your looking for openings with your jab against Roy, all you see is a glove in your face.. and you see Roys Left hanging off to the side... it almost feels like if you come in your getting hit with the left hook... if you try and jab your gonna get countered with the right.... these are the things you see fighting Roy, and he DOES have the hand speed accuracy to pull the trigger on you...
Also if Jermaine for one second gets lazy with that left hand and starts bringin it down, look for one of the fastest straight rights in boxing to hit him Directly... and Jermaine SWELLS, EASY...
Also the fact that Jermaine has an UP jab... he likes to come up with his jab... with Roy holding out his right lead glove all the time it pretty much is covering over that up jab... and is also ni direct site to land on his face at the same time...
What Roy needs to look out from Jermaine is... instead of Jermaine coming up with the up jab... step in with a wide left hook... at this point Roy doesnt move BACK as quickly as he used too, and his reflexes HAVE slowed, and when he tries to step back from a wide left hook.. Jermaine has a good reach... so that could be BAD for Roy... DEFINITELY...
Obviously the moving back on the ropes part is also bad for Roy, he cant be doing any of that as Jermaine does have a hell of a punch. Im curious to see what Roys view is gonna be on Taylor as far as... who does Roy think is the bigger guy... In roys mind hes comin from, HW, and jermaines comin from MW... so Roy might want to try and walk Taylor down like he did Trinidad...
I personally think Jermaine is the bigger guy... but.. Jermaine does kinda crouch down a lot when he fights, and so far Roys been doin that WWinky style, and he kinda stands up straighter... He looked a lot taller than Tito, and there the same height.. So Roy could end up looking the bigger man...
I personally dont feel hes that washed up... Lets not forget.. Roy got knockd out.. it WAS 4 years ago.. since then hes had 3 fights, each one being tougher than the last... hes JUST as active as Taylor... Roy fought in July and January.. Taylor fought in September and February... Roys gone through a good 24 rounds... Taylor got KOed in September, and just Went through a hellacious training camp, and a Hellacious second fight... on top of that... Jermaine is now gonna move UP in to a bigger weight class.. and Roys gona move down... This will do two things... Get Roy in better shape, and take power away from Jermaine... Its more even than you think it is...
Ill go with Roy UD... based on VERY clean VISIBLE punching, especially from Angles... and Jermaine finding it difficult to get past Roys stance and counter punching abilities.. But its not a walk in the park either.. he better get UP for Jermaine...
Can i just add.... I think I hit moofo's writing style right on target...
Taylors quickness will be problems for roy! his hands are still very quick, but his legs, and reflexes have slowed, and i see taylor getting to him with the jab, and opening roy up for power shots! if roy uses the turtle d as he did vs tito he will lose a decision! if he lays on the ropes, fights with his left hand low, he will get ktfo! either way i see taylor as being to much for the great roy! wish he would just retire! it is hard to watch a shell of his former self look so human!
If Roy takes this fight. My hats off to him.
Taylor is still young and the dude can bang. Roy will be moving back all night long. Im sure Taylor can takes Roys best punch. Taylor would be jabbing Roy all night long and possible take him out around the late rounds. Roy will not trade so Taylor would have to go after him. Taylor by UD.

Jones speed and considerable power will definately be enough to beat Taylor. People may say that Taylor beat Hopkins therefore, he'll beat Roy too. Difference is, as clever as Hopkins is, he didn't have the pop in his punch to make Taylor second guess himself. That's what Kelly was able to do in the rematch and that's what Roy would be able to do to him as well. But I still don't trust Roy's Chin.
What?!?
Jermain Taylor has spent his entire career at 160, of course he has to drop weight but who doesnt? He could have weighed in at 166 to fight Pavlik but didnt even need to, came in at a career high of only 164. Jones on the other hand has spent most of his Career at 168 and 175 even going to heavyweight once. Theirs no question who is the bigger fighter.
Taylor was a huge middleweight, several inches taller than Roy. If he fights Jones, look for him to enter the ring at a higher weight than Roy on fight night. Taylor is still only 29 and will likely have to fight at lightheavyweight in a few years.

That a guranteed knockout loss if he tries to back Taylor up and walk him down. Taylor is not Trinidad, he can fight going backward well and does not need his feet to be planted in order to punch. He did that to Trinidad because again, Trinidad was smaller and had no power at that weight, on top of the other disadvantages he had. Taylor is also bigger than Roy. He is 6'1 and and Roy is only 5'10. Taylor also has the bigger frame. Roy coming down from heavyweight will men nothing, on fight night, Taylor will be bigger because they will weigh the same and Jermain is naturally bigger anyway.

Just look at who his comebacks was against. Ajamu? A no name fighter who actually gave Roy fits in the early rounds. Hanshaw? a green showbox fighter in which Roy made him come up in weight to fight him. Trinidad? Out for 2 years, out boxed badly in his last fight, inactive for 2 years, blown up in weight and had no power in that weight class. Jermain is in his prime and has the tools to beat Jones at this stage. Believe it or not, when Jermain loss to Pavlik the second time, he looked the best he has ever looked. Why? Because he kept his hands up, stayed off of the ropes. threw straight punches and was better technically polished. Plus, Taylor is alot better than Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver and even if he makes Taylor come up in weight, Taylor still has the frame of a light heavyweight so the decrease in power will not be much, if any.
Ill go with Roy UD... based on VERY clean VISIBLE punching, especially from Angles... and Jermaine finding it difficult to get past Roys stance and counter punching abilities.. But its not a walk in the park either.. he better get UP for Jermaine...
Not only will Taylor's punches be a lot harder than Trinidad's, but Taylor is also buiser than Trinidad and can fight for the full 12. Roy has a habit of laying on the ropes and Trinidad got through with some great body shots, imagine what a bigger, stronger, faster (than Trinidad) and with more stamina do? Im not trying to put Roy down here, but him matching well against any of the young fighters is something that i dont see happening.
Why do yu think jermain is moving up? Have you been paying attention to anything? He is a TRUE Supermiddleweight, who shrinks down to Middleweight to get the advantage... well he cant make the weight anymore...
And Roy fought middle to Heavy.. hes a true SMW in my opinion... he def. lost all that muscle he had when he went to HW... I dont think its this magical "Safe" fight for jones... Jermaine CAN hurt Roy, and BAD..
Taylor isn't a former welterweight like Trinidad. He is every bit as big as Roy and anyone using the "smaller opponent" angle has no validity.
Why wont jones fight somebody his own size? Shouldnt he be looking at the very least a supermiddle/light heavy? I like Taylor but the odds are against him here, another safe fight for jones.

Why thank you.. its been awhile since I got that in depth on a thread..
hey at least I do my best to try and explain why i think what I think.. you know?
You did well. While I'll probably pick Taylor, he has enough flaws that could give Roy a big look in this fight. Roy really wants this guy, and one thing Jones isn't is stupid. He definitely sees something he likes here. The big question is whether his 39 y/o body will accomodate him.

Roy may be past his prime but, he still has enough left to beat taylor. I believe his weak chin was caused by his 20 pound of muscle weight loss. I went through the same shit for wrestling I dropped from 152 to 130 for wrestling. That was pretty hard to do considering that I'm 6'2". When was the last time he came out blasting, he's not that type of fighter.
He came out blasting in the second Tarver fight. He was (like i said) showing flashes of his prime, then the younger and stronger fighter caught up with him and knocked him out.
Its just laughable how people look at the Trinidad fight and act like Roy would look that good against the top younger fighters. He looked good against a green and blown up Hanshaw, and Trinidad that was out boxed badly in last fight (which was 2 years ago) blown up in weight, past his prime, and ring rusty. Please, Taylor is too young and would take advantage of Roy's slowed reflexis, laying on the ropes, and his inactivity. Taylor stops him and quickly.

Taylor will stop him in two rounds. Roy is simply past his prime and Taylor has actually improven alot since he has went back with Ozel Nelson. Roy comes out blasting and showing shades of the Roy of old, then Taylor eventually catches up with him and stops him in the 2nd. His weak chin will play into Taylor's hands.
