Watching that Taylor vs Pavlik fight a couple of times. Even though Taylor lost the fight, i though he did a very good job blocking a lot of Pavlik's right hands which is his best punch. I think Roy could do the same thing, but with more success and Roy is stronger then Jermaine Taylor.
I think Roy can have success with his Winky Wright style of keeping his hands up and blocking Pavlik's right hands and counterpunching off of that.
Even though Pavlik puts a lot of pressure on you,i dont see the same hand speed as Glen Johnson. Glen was throwing everything in the kitchen sink at Roy and Roy didnt know what to do. Pavlik's punches, you can see them coming easier. Im not saying he's slow,or not a very good fighter,i just think roy matches up better with Pavlik then he did with Glen.
I think RJJ could still beat Pavlik. Yes he was knocked out by two near perfect punches, but Pavlik is open to being countered with fast accurate punches. Taylor was noticebly faster than Pavlik and Jones still has the fastest hands at Middleweight in my opinion.
I think 80% of Jones knocks Pavlik out. Taylor damn nearly did it the first time, and he is no where near RJJ class even at this point.
If the referee had called off the first Taylor Pavlik fight, no one could have complained....now suddenly he wins a close fight against Taylor and he is going to whip Jones? No way.
almost doesn't count though. You hit a guy with 35 consecutive punches and he's still in there to knock you out 5 rounds later.
If Roy is backing straight up and trying to fight off the ropes he'll get knocked out. I think his mobility, which is one of his biggest assets if the biggest would have to be great against Pavlik, he'd have to moving all the time, and not letting Pavlik get his feet set, not getting pinned against the ropes, moving giving angles, setting his feet and throwing some decent shots from time to time, you dont get points just by moving you got to punch too. Pavlik would hunt him down eventually.
yeah if you call turning your back and running across the ring surviving in a ring, maybe thats surviving in the jungle but this is boxing.
This IS boxing, and unfortunately they don't give out victories for almost finishing guys off. It would be a pretty crappy sport if you didn't have to complete tasks.
He already lost in my eyes, the referee let him off the hook in the first taylor fight.
Anyone has a chance of knocking Pavlik out. Abraham could knock him out.
Damn, Pavlik was doing the chicken dance in the first fight, was competing with Zabs version
Pavlik made a stupid mistake allowing Taylor to completely tee off on his face for about 7 straight punches. We're not gonna see that happen again. Anyone else took those punches would have been KTFO. I love Taylor but the Ref let Taylor off the hook when he stopped Taylor in the corner. Also, Abraham's stamina is a joke, I honestly have Miranda winning the rematch with relative ease anywhere outside of Germany. If you don't think Home Field Advantage saved his fight then you haven't seen the fight. It's available for download in the video trading block incase you haven't.

He's hasn`t fought anyone. The paper champion Taylor nearly knocked his ass out. As soon as he fights a decent technical boxer who can punch....
night night kelly.
Pavlik may appear a little one dimensional but with the volume he throws and his ability to come forward through punches, its gonna be difficult to decision him and really difficult to brawl him. If he's a one trick pony.. it's a helluva trick.

Yes, Jones can beat Pavlik but in the Trinidad fight he was pushed back to the ropes when Trinidad moved forward and that could be a big factor against a guy like Pavlik who throws a lot of punches per round, Jones' low activity nowadays could hurt him as well.
Right on the money for the 2nd time tonight.
You should post here more often! :boxing:

jones's chin is too weak. he still has the speed and ability to win,,but one right hand on that china and he's on his back again
Pavlik has been at 160, who knows if he can carry that power to 175. or even 168, his punches at 166 didnt seem as effective as at 160. Jones would win easily if he hasnt gotten to old.
I had Taylor winning on Saturday but I do respect Pavlik, I think he can beat anyone from 160-175.
I don't see him beating Kessler @ 168.
Maybe if Kessler fought Pavlik @ 160, I'd give Pavlik a much bigger chance.
Glen Johnson can be a monster at times...he throws punches from various angles...and not wide either...he mixes up body shots, head shots, uppercuts, hooks, jabs, straights, while defending consistently throughout a fight...Pavlik is a very good fighter who sticks to about 80-90% straight punches (1-2 combo) throughout a fight
Agreed. Roy had a hard time figuring out where Glen's punches were coming from, plus Glen keeps his hands up. He isnt easy to hit
Pavlik as you said throws more 1-2 combo punches which i think Roy would have a easier time timing him.
