Agreed those fights were 4 years ago, Roy is even older now.
The point was, many in this thread thought Roy could beat Pavlik but I don't see it happening.
Roy has a lot to prove at age 40 and beating Jermain would certainly prove a lot but I don't see that happening either.
My point of it being 4 years ago, was that the dramatic weight loss was 4 years ago... it was so insanely evident, after the dro down from heavyweight, that roy could barely move the way he used to pre-heavyweight.. that definitely effected him... my point was, hes past that... and yes, instead of weight drainage he has to deal with age... but i think those are two completely different things, and two different fighters... id rather be 39, then be 35 and having to sweat out 20 pounds... youd feel like passing out... and your body cant take the same impact if your dehydrated... matter of fact.. he did pass out :) - im not making excuses im just sayin...
And im not saying he can beat jermain or pavlik... just the comparison to how he looked after dropping from heavyweight, isnt quite fair... he still has a lot to prove, even in my eyes..my comparing that situation, to this.. isnt fair.
Pavlik would have a tough time against Roy. But again, we're basing it off his performance against a slow, out of shape Tito Trinidad.
Pavlik is definitely beatable. But it's easy to say and tough to prove as shown in his last 3 fights. Roy comes in from different angles sometimes so that can throw Pavlik off. But as shown in the past, stamina can change the outocme of a fight in a split second
It's tough to call, but Pavlik would have to KO Roy for a win. I don't see him winning a decision against Roy (but then again I didn't think Pavlik could beat Taylor on the cards).
wtf is the point of posting that? you think losing 25 pounds had absolutely ZEROOOOOO to do with what happened in those fights? you REALLY think that? that was 4 years ago.. Pavliks no joke.. but beating Jermaine Taylor and praising him as unbeatable is so far fetched its ridiculous.. the jermain that barely beat a cory spinks, and a draw with winky wright... and the fact that roy isnt even fighting pavlik????????

You people really think he could beat Pavlik fighting like this?
That's playing right into Pavlik's strenghts.

Jones spanks Pavlik if u ask me, Kelly has very good power tho over rated by most! A good chin but not GREAT and Very good stamina and a Great heart BUT is pretty slow, completely predictible and has nothing but a 1-2! I like em as a dude and as a fighter but Roy would lash him with quick powerful counters over the top of that jab. Jones wins.
Taylor? I just cant picture how this fight would play out yet not put much thought in2 it but i think Roy is smart enough and has the speed to get a ud.
people seem to forget that Pavlik was throwing vicious shots to the body. They were probably his most effective punches in the bout.. Quite possibly the very reason Taylor was clinching so much late in the fight.

Watch Roy vs Glen Johnson or hell, even Roy vs Anthony Hanshaw.
Roy has a chance against the inactive Taylor but he doesn't have the ability to fight 3 minutes every round and that's what Pavlik would make him do.
Jones lays on the ropes a lot and that would get him knocked out cold against Pavlik who does his best work when his opponent is facing the ropes.
Roy doesn't have the legs or the reflexes anymore, he has adjusted his style, uses a high guard and doesn't throw a lot to save his energy but it simply won't work against someone like Pavlik.
I think both beat him.
Pavlik was exposed on Saturday as fighter who has problems with guys who can box descent! So Jones would have a easier fight with Pavlik!:boxing:
But if Roy goes to the ropes and calls it DEFENSE! Pavlik will administer that right hand sleepin pill prescribed by Jack Lowe!
NO he does not have very good technique, in fact his technique is AWFUL. He is slow, sloppy and generally a pretty ugly boxer.
I know he is white and all, but you guys need to stop acting like is is the shit, he is nothing.
Pavlik will outvolume old man Jones. Jones waited Tito Trinidad out for the first few rounds.. conserving energy. Jones is not gonna match Pavlik's volume and he's sure as hell not gonna knock Pavlik out. Until the boxing comission limits the amount of punches a fighter can throw Jones doesn't staned a chance.
Just want to take this full circle.
Who Could Jones Perform Better Against?
Taylor or Pavlik?
Pavlik has a better chance because although his movement may be slower than Jermain, he has the power and stamina and to beat Jones both fighters would need to knock him out.
I think he'd definitely perform better against Taylor........who has the tendency to lapse and lay against the ropes etc. Pavlik just keeps grinding and he'd have the capacity to catch Jones with straight shots eventually.
In a classical sense, Taylor wouldn't throw enough punches.
