He is on a number of different levels first and foremost that he's a great boxer that most boxing fans can appreciate. He could be a great middleweight champion. Bob Arum made a point that boxing does great in the black community and latino community but not really in the mainstream he thinks Pavlik brings the mainstream of people into it. He's a respectable guy as well in a sport that in recent years has been mired by characters like Tyson and others.
You guys, alot of you are from the east coast, Florida, California. It's hard for people from Racine Wisconsin, Naperville Illinois, Youngstown Ohio to make a connection, to identify with guys like Zab Judah or Floyd Mayweather.
saying kelly pavlik is over-rated is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard... I guess knocking out miranda (a number one contender) and the middle weight champion within six months of eachother isnt a major accomplishment... Dude is a champion and is here to stay for a long time.
It has VERY little to do with race. They actually had a hard time bringing him up due to his race. It has wayyy more to do with that people can relate to him. He's human, he gets knocked down, gets back up and wins. Why was Arturo Gatti so popular? If you didn't know, Youngstown is a dead town, the people there see him as a new hope.
If to attract white fans for him to be "a +" for boxing, that's a shame. It doesn't particularly excite me to know that there are fans out there who care less about a fighter because of their darker skin.

Think of how many non American fighters have come to be beloved by mainstream fans in the US.
Julio Caesar Chavez
Fernando Vargas
Miguel Cotto
Wladimir Klitschko
there's a long list but just because a certain element of the boxing press expresses bias toward non american fighters, it's not really indicticative.
No its just what happens with Americans. If a no name from Tonga became huge, no one would give one shit.
He will get exposed tomorrow. Taylor UD.
I'm not the press by the way so you dont need to bombard me with anti us cliches.
Come on man. I have fought tall guys and beat them from the outside. Its not arm length. We both know even if one guy is 5 foot 1 he can catch a guy 6 foot 5 who is rushing in. Taylor fights from the outside, uses a jab. he wins. But im confused, as to how dumb he is. Tomorrow we will know.
but those tall guys wern't Pavlik and you wern't boxing those tall guys with the exact same strenghts and weakness as Jermaine Taylor. Yes a shorter guy can beat a taller guy from the outside but I dont think it's likely in this particular instance and the height difference isn't that huge.
It's simple as Pavlik was winning the jabbing battle the first time.
Taylor wasn't exposed, he was just knocked out.
:grouphug:
But Pavliks lack of speed will be worrying tomorrow. A smart Taylor wins.
LMFAO! so if taylor would have koed pavlik what would kelly have been?

u mean as taylor was "exposed" in the first fight? ur a funny dude!
hes good for boxing cause hes white, plain and simple... he is good for boxing without a doubt... hopefully Arum doesn't put in too many PPVs
Becuase hes white, and is probably the most devastating puncher and finisher the sport has seen in a while LOL
Not to mention hes humble as shit and has heart
No he couldn't.
Hes being way over rated now. A great middleweight champion?
Hes way to slow. If Taylor fights smart tomorrow e.g FROM THE OUTSIDE. HE WINS
is he? maybe a bit overrated by some! but that always happens when a no name becomes huge! he could most certainly be a great mw champ. he has not lost and beat 2 of the best guys in the division! he has the skill and potential to beat everyone in his division! 32 wins 29 ko's! he already beat 2 of the best. he disposed of miranda, and taylor (who beat bhop 2x, drew with winky) by brutal ko's! plus he is a good guy and is already giving back to the community, and setting a good example for young people. not acting a fool getting into trouble and such!
yeah if taylor fights from the outside he will eat the jab, and set up the str8 right, and get ktfo again! stop hating, and respect! taylor is a very good fighter, and to say kelly is not only makes your boy taylor look mediocre, which is hardly the case of a man who beat bhop 2x!
Well I know 2 boxing fans from Naperville... One would be me. My other one is my friend.
I guess my gymmates too, but don't know if they follow pro boxing.
Naperville isn't the best example because it's a suburb of Chicago rather than small cities like Racine, or Madison. Still Chicago itself is alot different than New York or California.
No he couldn't.

I already explained to you why he can't win from the outside. Pavlik is so long, and was able to outjab him the first time and likely will again, he's not fast enough on his feet to stay at range against tall Pavlik and just jump in and out of range past Pavlik's jab, not going to happen.
