I've seen this thought from several people recently. They say, "Pavlik is going to KO Jermain again and end his career!" Often it's said with enthusiasm or pride- as if you gain something watching an athlete lose the ability to perform. I'm a bit unsure if it's just a love of brutality that makes people excited to say something like this..but it seems rather immature and stupid. If people said that before the McClellan-Benn fight...wouldn't they feel horrible? You can die in that ring or, in the case of men like Gerald be forever damaged.
In a violent sport like boxing, isn't it the height of disrespect to wish someone's career is ended? I have seen at least a dozen different people express sentiments that Jermain's career will be ended by a second, equally brutal, knock-out loss. There's no trepidation, or worry in their statement.....you guys haven't seen people saying this? I feel like that's the height of stupidity and ignorance- especially when Jermain Taylor is a generally respectful boxer who doesn't talk shit.
Thoughts?
I wouldn't count Jermain out just yet, he has all of the physical tools and ability to beat Pavlik but the question is will he be mentally the same, after having being knocked out for the first time and not fighting any soft touches before getting back in there with Pavlik.
People who wish this on a nice guy with a wife and kids need to get their skulls mashed in
in addition they need to wipe pavlik's cock residue off their face
I agree. Oh, and thanks for making a post about the actual point behind this thread. I'm a warp tard, so I'm lucky anyone cares.

That's correct you can't win if your lying down on the floor before the bell rings at the end of 12.
Well, I generally give the fight to the guy who is asleep on the canvas, being attended to by the ringside doctor. Oh wait...that wasn't the issue. We were talking about people wishing Jermain Taylor gets hurt..but I'll address what you just wrote. Sure, the guy who gets knocked out loses- but your statement assumes one person is getting knocked out; like it's a forgone conclusion. It's not. Many good fights end with BOTH men on their feet.
It's a distinct possiblity no matter who you are or how good you are that will you be defeated by KO. your contesting this
It's a distinct possibility that when a quarterback gets sacked he could break a leg, suffer a terrible concussion, or even get hurt more seriously. In hockey you can get checked right into the wall and break your face. In any sport you run a risk of getting seriously hurt- in boxing more than any other. That doesn't mean that because someone CAN get knocked out you have to wish harm on them. There's a huge difference between appreciating the science and skill behind a solid knockout and simply liking someone getting fucked up. Do you agree with that?
When you take the context of this thread into account- and all you're doing is asserting that boxers need to hurt each other to win and a knockout is part of the that...seems to go against my initial statement of concern over people hoping Jermain Taylor has his career ended.
That's boxing you wierdo. It's two guys in an enclosed square for 12, 3 minute rounds you need to be the one standing up last..
That's correct you can't win if your lying down on the floor before the bell rings at the end of 12
getting knocked out is one of 2 ways to lose. If your not prepared for that dont be a prizefighter. be a ballarina, maybe even a balladier.
You disagree? It's a distinct possiblity no matter who you are or how good you are that will you be defeated by KO.
I'll respond to another one of your posts when you start to address points I have actually made.
Start by reading the one in which I quote you and attempt to address the point of the thread- and my initial post. This is a thread I created, right? So it stands to reason YOU discuss what my initial post. I quoted your response to it- and then you just went on a little fit and called me a "tard". I'll do this again for you :
Read my first post. Anyone who visits this thread can. I talk about people wishing Jermain gets knocked out so brutally his career is over, and how such statements are the height of disrespect and ignorance.
Your response?
That's boxing you wierdo. It's two guys in an enclosed square for 12, 3 minute rounds you need to be the one standing up last.

Then an argument begins about how the focus of boxing is not power and, based on your response, concern for a boxer's well-being doesn't seem to be your primary concern. If you read my entire post and all you got out of it was, "That's boxing you weirdo" I don't feel I'm going to be alone in viewing you as someone who sees knockouts as the end-all, and that your post didn't seem to really address my point...rather just express your love of KO's because, in your words,
"You need to be the one standing up last". Or, in other words...only one man will be standing. What if we're both standing? What if we're both jumping up and down? What if we both have our hands raised? You seem to suggest knocking someone out is all there is. It's just in your word choice, man.
Direct response to your words. Or am I writing too much like a warped tard? I do that sometimes.
ok so I was arguing against you in saying that it's wrong to hope Jermaine gets injured. That's exactly what I was arguing in support of this entire time, every word has been in support of that argument.
Guess I was wrong in doing that, thanks for setting me straight.

I like that I quote your own post to my initial one, use your own words to express why we're arguing, and you end your argument with a little rant, not addressing what I said, and decide to call me a 'tard' to really show me whose boss.
Damn, I just got served. I'm "tard" now.
Fact stands I put more weight on defensive skills, movement, speed and accuracy and over-all ability than power. It also stands that I hope people stop their lust for brutality in the sense that they hope fighter's get seriously injured just so they get five minutes of entertainment watching the replay- even hoping someone has their career ended.
I like how you seem to do everything but address not only the topic of the thread, but half my direct arguments.
I submit my humble arguments, those of a warped tard, to the jury.

So somewhere in here I was rooting for Jermaine Taylor to get injured tommorrow?
I never said that it was good for any fighter to get injured in the ring. I never said I hope Jermaine gets injured. I never would hope that for any boxer.
Read my first post. Anyone who visits this thread can. I talk about people wishing Jermain gets knocked out so brutally his career is over, and how such statements are the height of disrespect and ignorance.

No, it has more to do with your initial response to the thread.
Njord: "Saying people hope Jermain gets seriously hurt is fucking disrespectful."
Troll: That's boxing, pal. Get your man out of there.
Njord: Boxing isn't all about the knock-out. Anyways, I still don't like seeing people disrespect boxers like in my example.
So somewhere in here I was rooting for Jermaine Taylor to get injured tommorrow?
I never said that it was good for any fighter to get injured in the ring. I never said I hope Jermaine gets injured. I never would hope that for any boxer.
Really? I thought it was clear. Power is not the stake by which we grade quality and knockouts are not the goal of every fight. We don't need to hope someone gets knocked out to hope we get a good fight, and we don't need to watch two power punchers battle to get amazing action.
Two feather-fisted lightweights engaging in amazing fast-paced, high output tactical boxing is more entertaing than a clinch-fest, power driven heavyweight fight in which, after several rounds of boring action, one man gets KTFO- is that clear?
The purpose of my thread was to indicate people need to respect boxers more and not say things like, "Watch Jermain get knocked out again- more brutally- and have his career ended." Your response was, "That's boxing, pal. Dish out damage until you knock your man out. End of story."
No. Not end of story. That's not the only way people view the sport. It's about more than damage- i.e. my example of the feather-fisted boxers. With your example I'd assume people find Floyd Mayweather boring when he can't knock a guy out, or hate Pauli Malignaggi because he has no power, right?
I'm not generalizing. I'm saying knock outs are fine but you seem to be emphasizing them as the goal of the sport when it's not. Is that clear?
Oh, right. If I'm clear I'm pegged as 'warped'.
i like the good boxing match just as much as you. i like watching a boxing match that has good skill in it. i hate the clinch fest that is most heavyweights. but with maywheather he talks how its going to be a f*cking massacre and it turns out to be a running marathon. the hatton fight was entertaining bc hatton was pushing him around but if hatton didnt do what he did that fight would have been worse than a john ruiz fight.
Njord: '12 moderate punches beats 5 hard punches'
troll: 'eh i'd say that's overgeneralizing
njord: 'you want Jermaine Taylor to get seriously injured like a certain fighter did against Nigel Benn'
No, it has more to do with your initial response to the thread.

When did I assert these things? I asserted that I can only win a fight one of two ways one of them being a knockout so I dont really know who or what your responding to here.
njord what you said is way way way too much of a generalization. It just is, end of story. It indicated nothing except that i'm stating the obvious.
