The guy is a FIGHTER. An excellent FIGHTER. He FIGHTS in all of his fights.
Stop saying he could easily outbox so-and-so. Could he outfight so-and-so? Absolutely. Calzaghe has extremely fast hands and throws tons of combinations.
But he's not a particularly good boxer. In fact, i've rarely seen him box an opponent at the elite level. he picks his spots to fight but he rarely actually steps back and works off a jab.
He hardly ever even uses a jab.
actually u know what, maybe he IS a good boxer, but he never BOXES and he never will BOX, he is a fighter and has a fighters mentality.
I just love the way that when he get tagged hard he react's as if he was offended and then punishes you for hitting him.
i still completely agree with myself, now more then ever :D
If he was a good "boxer" (not as in, he is a great fighter in the sport of boxing, but as in his skills are more towards fighting and not boxing and moving) he wouldnt have looked so terrible in his winning effort tonight
I think its just the word "boxer" which gets thrown around a lot and has become a word to describe other boxers with PBF or Guzman's style. If you don't fight like that for some odd reason then you aren't labeled a boxer.
The fact of the matter is if you do great in the sport of boxing, you must be a pretty good fucking boxer no matter if you are going in face first.
Some people seem to have these weird aesthetic hang-ups about what a "boxer" is, leading to detractive judgements of fighters' boxing ability that are based on nothing other than the naysayers' arbitrary beliefs of what is or isn't pleasing to the eye.
Hence that recurring "queer fighting his way out of spiderwebs" line.
good post.
I think Joe is aesthetically pleasing though. The guy who posted that was an arsehat. Who more than likely thinks all British fighters are shit.

calz faced a few ex world champs and some decent folks actually. i think you are someone who hasn't seen more than 20 of his fights if i am right?
I can't fathom what fight he has seen.
He was also fighting very weak british competition and fighting very low grade contenders. Pavliks record is filled with many fighters that had never been stopped before.
In no way is this an insult to Calzaghe, cause he is just not a puncher, but Pavliks 29 KOs in 32 fights is much more impressive then Calzaghes 28 KOs in 32 fights, i think any reasonable guy would agree with that.
And at 168, taylor may hit a little less hard then he does now... but it wont be that much different. I agree that when Calzaghe trys to hit hard he is a hard puncher, but when taylor DOESNT try to hit hard he is a hard puncher. At one point in his career he was considered a DEVESTATING puncher, but because he didnt show that power against Ouma, Spinks, Hopkins, and Wright, the reputation left him. It certainly should have come back against Pavlik

Taylor a bigger puncher at 168? :ugh: When Calzaghe sits down him his punches they are very hard and severley underrated. In his first 32 fights he had 28 knockouts which if you compare to Pavlik (32 fights, 29 Kos) isn't much of a difference at all and this was done in a bigger weight class.

Joe boxes well, works well of the jab too, remeber how he adopted to Kessler after he realised that he can't just come in and throw an 8 punch combo.
I already posted the vid of Calzaghe adapting in the Kessler fight but I guess KBall doesn't really care about watching it.
Look at Joe's defense and jab, he repeteadly beats Kessler to the punch and avoids the counter punches.
What was it all about again? Hitting and not getting hit, that's what Joe did.
He boxes absolutely nothing like Winky Wright IMO... idk how u could make a comparison even...
one guy relys entirely on his jab to set up his offense, and fights entirely coming forward and on the outside in a very tight defense
and the other guy circles, has a weak jab that he only uses as a range finder basically, and spend 90% of all of his fights blasting away on the inside with 1000 punch combinations every other second.
I think your getting Joe Calzaghe confused with Pacman.
Honestly.
Taylor is a MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger puncher then Calzaghe is, first of all, and it took about a dozen FLUSH shots to Pavliks chin to put him down to his Knees.
He wasnt flatten or knocked out cold and he popped up in a second
Over the coarse of his career, if anything, Pavlik will prove that he will never go down easy.

joe calzaghe boxes... a lot.......a winky wright fan should be able to see this...shame on you...

100%?
Taylor almost had out Pavlik in the 2nd.

The only time he boxes is A) When Hes fighting a highly overmatched opponent and B) when his opponent is taking a breather or is beaten up and has no will to keep on coming into his wheel house.
lol....if you had actually watched calzaghe fight you would know he ALWAYS starts boxing unless he feels his opponent is overmatched.....or if the other guy is tentative to step into joe's range....
he boxes and then when he has already discouraged you and tired you or wants to show off he steps in an fights...
hey dont take what im saying the wrong way. I think Calzaghe is an ECELLENT fight and maybe special, i just do boxing skills in his repetior.

And 100% of boxing fans know that Calzaghe would NOT knock Pavlik out within 6 rounds, thats just stupid. Could he win? Absolutely. Could he hurt or stop Pavlik? I highly doubt it but its possible i guess. To the body if anywhere
100%?
Taylor almost had out Pavlik in the 2nd.
Look at rounds the Kessler fight in rounds 5-11, he completely Outboxes Kessler.
Yep. Joe fights in the manner required - if he needs to box, he can do that. Adjustments were required after the first 1/3 of Kessler, he made them and boxed Kessler supremely well throughout the middle and latter rounds. The small mess he made above Mikkel's left eye wasn't the result of sloppy volume punching, it was evidence of the skill and precision with which Joe took to the task of boxing Kessler cleverly and dilligently for 6-7 rounds.
Calzaghe is a boxer who can brawl when he feels he has to. He outboxed Kessler, he outboxed Eubank to a certain extent, he outboxed Brewer, he DOMINATED Lacy, need I really go on?
Calzaghe not a boxer is the most rediculous thing I've ever seen. When was the last time you saw him box? I doubt you have seen a Calzaghe fight in your life, and are just pissed because 99% of true boxing fans know he could KO pavlik inside 6. :bottle: :bottle: :bottle:
Thanks for clearing that one up, saving me the bother. Dumbass yanks :nonono:
