Molitor to face Beltran!
Mandatory challenger Fernando Beltrán Jr. (30-2-1, 18 KOs) will be the next opponent for IBF super bantamweight champion Steve Molitor (26-0, 10 KOs). The clash is set for April 5th at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, site of all three of Molitor's previous defenses since winning the vacant title in Hartlepool, England in November 2006.

So he will just continue to force opponents to come to Casino Rama every few months??
I don't care who sells more tickets etc etc. That shouldnt have anything to do with anything, really. Not when the world championship is on the line. The sanctioning bodies should have more control over their titles. And the IBF's rules leave quite a bit to be desired, no? Paying for TWO fights, paying for ANY fight is not really making sense to me. We fought for the #2 spot... wouldnt it be assumed that we would be in one of the spots when it came time to be picking the two guys to fight for#1? Why would we pay to fightfor #2 anyway? If you are number 2..but ther eis no number 1...doesnt that make YOU number 1?? This game is crazy, man.

There wasnt anything funny about why Mike wasnt made the mandatory challenger for Molitor. When he fought the 'eliminator' that was for the No. 2 spot - not the No. 1 spot.
So Mike was installed as No. 2. The IBF's rules are that if you fight for No. 2 - you still then have to fight for No. 1.
Obviously, these arent cemented as I'm sure they have 'forgotten' these rules in the past - but I told them to Richie before Mike's fight for the No. 2 spot. Neither he nor the opponent were rated high enough to fight for No. 1.
And the thing about Molitor making the opponents go up to Casino Rama ... you will make a lot more money fighting up there than you would if Richie brought a title fight to Mohegan or Foxwoods.
Molitor sells probably 10 times as many tickets as Mike does.

Thought it was a matter of purse bids in mandatory defences to determine which promoter has the rights to the fight...
If Molitor's promoter is winning the purse bids then he's got the say where the fight is being held.
Seems pretty straight forward to me, unless there is something else happening that hasn't been mentioned.
because my fighter is supposed to be his mandatory but there has been some funny funny business going on
** Well, it's a funny business that your in, obviously.
Molitor just doing his Roy impersonation of holding court. With 4-5 titles to fight for, it's not like there aren't other opportunities.
Fighters have done this for a long time, you want the title you need to beat the champ on the champs terms. Look at Sven Ottke, the guy never fought outside of Germany. Not too sure why you are singling out Molitor here, he is part of a long list of many.
i got a feeling this guy is gonna be ducking Marquez, Vazquez, or De Leon soon
Its just a thing to me where the guy gets his hot over in England, wins a vacant title, and now apparently plans to hold on to it forcing guys to come to him up there because he draws, sell tickets etc etc. But its going to be tough, no matter what ANYONE says, to get a fair shake there.

You know I love ya but .... he isnt forcing anyone to go North of the Border. Castillo didnt have to go up there, neither does Beltran. They could have said 'no' to the fight.
If they are paying the opponents what they want to get them up there ... best of luck to Molitor and Casino Rama.
Let them bang the place out time and time again ... thats more money when Mike Mike gets the call. LOL
