Editor: Andre, give us some thoughts on your big win.
Andre Berto: "It was a real good fight for me. I fought a tough veteran and I broke him down. I basically showed a different side of me. I'm gradually getting more experience under my belt."
Editor: There were times, during the fight, that you could have taken him out a little earlier. Were you trying to get some rounds in?
Andre Berto: Definitely, I hurt him a few times, but I wanted to back off and use some of the things we had worked on.
Editor: What are you taking away from this fight and this experience?
AB: It's just another win under my belt. He was tough, and he forced me to work. It was good work.
Editor: Give us your thoughts on the fight we just saw, Williams-Quintana.
AB: Quintana came to win, and he did take the win. He got a belt tonight.
Editor: Is it possible for a Berto-Quintana fight next?
AB: Anything is possible. We've just got to go back to the drawing board, talk to the team, and see what's next.
Editor: Are you wanting to take another step up, and go for the championship against Quintana, or are you going to want to get some more rounds in first?
AB: It depends, everything is right there for me. I'm ranked #1 in two of the sanctioning bodies, so I'm just ready for whatever right now. It's going to be a big year for me.
I like Berto and think he's the future of the WW division. Yeah he needs to work on his defense, but most young fighters do. I would like to see him fight Quintana because out of all the champs he might be the weakest. I wouldn't gaurantee that Berto would beat him, but if he fought well he could. If not Quintana maybe somebody else in the bottom half of the top ten or a decent name outside the top ten.
Shameful thing about last weekends fight was the guy he fought had no offense but did land a few times when he actually threw punches. Berto has said they are working on Defense after the Estrada fight but we didn't really get a chance to see if it's improved due to his opponents lack of. He is crisp, powerful and fast so as long as his hearts there he will have a bright and exciting future.
big win? this kid needs to seriously step up
Uh NO.. actually he DOESNT need to step up big... he needs to keep takin baby steps like hes been doin unless he wants to lose
Berto did try to fight some contenders, I believe Gomez and Chavez Jr turned down a fight with him (read that on this website) so there weren't that many options for him. Cotto would destroy him though, he feeds on undefeated prospects or champions. A Quintana fight would be good, maybe the winner of Cintron-Margarito
Both Cintron and Marg would be too much for him right now...im pretty sure he could hold his own but im not sure he would come out victorious...hes just too green right now...he gets hit very often, although he did show some head movement on this fight he still doesnt seem fast defensivley...hes all offense at this point ala meldrick taylor.

Nah Judah would hurt him, that's not a good fight for him just yet.
After Cotto is done with Gomez, Berto should try to fight him
yeah there you go... i like that idea
i would like to see him against a top ten conteder. clottey, judah, etc.

they wont throw him to the wolves... his promotors and managers know they have a possible gold mine... and there gonna milk it slowly... i think they have his best intentions at heart, and theyve showed that with their gradual step up in competition... i think they thought trabant would be a lot better than he was... he was 42-2... who knew hes be terrible...
I agree.......I decided last night to drop Winky from my top 5 favorite fighters and move Berto up to 4 while adding Keith Thurman to 5th. He is a local fighter that just turned pro. I went ot his debut in Oct. He is now 2-0 2 first round KOs. He fights at 154 and should be a force in the future.

I like this guy.....He's my new mini Lacy. Just hopefully he isn't moved to fast and thrown the the wolves like Lacy sort of was. I know now there is not a fighter on this planet with only 21 pro bouts under his belt thats ready to challenge Joe Calzaghe. Hell Kessler proved that with 39 fights under his belt.

This doesn't surprise me. ^^
Berto has a shallow well, and he has zero awareness of it.
He needs to stop fighting guys like Trabant and he needs to improve his defense.
he needs to fight a real guy with some power in his fists, it's time for berto to learn a lil lesson now before he gets to used to fighting featherfisted pillow punchers and gets really fucked up when he fights a top guy
i would like to see him against a top ten conteder. clottey, judah, etc.
they are bringing him along slow for a reason, he needs it and is not ready for the top level, its pretty obvious he relies a lot on pure athleticism but makes a lot of mistakes in the process.
i like him and i hope he is in some big matches in the future. he does need some work. but he looks like hes bein smart. he should have stopped trabant before he was able to quit himself.
