Hopkins Can't intimadate Joe Calzaghe

I'm just showing the difference between Hopkins in his prime and Hopkins today. In his prime he was known as a very active fighter, today he throws about 20punches a round and that's why he will probably lose to Calzaghe. It's still impressive how a 43 year old man is good enough to get fights with top p4p fighters like Joe Calzaghe. You would love Hopkins if he was Welsh. I like Hopkins now, I just don't believe he was as good as people make out. His resume although looks good on paper is very poor if you disect it properly, at least all of Calzaghe's opponents were his size.

So now you post a video of him beating up a Welterweight. There is no video or highlight reel of Hopkins which can change my mind at the moment and I've seen the majority of his fights anyway. He was a very good fighter but is highly overrated for beating up on midgets or shot fighters. I respect Hopkins but he isn't a genius like people say he is.

This is evidence of why boxers "duck" other top fighters sometimes over money. Bernard Hopkins probably made no more than $50,000 for this fight and even though it was a very important win in his career it's all but ignored by all but his biggest fans. But, more people remember Hopkins' win over Howard Eastman because it was fought on a big stage. Eastman was a decent win, but it doesn't compare to Johnson even though it made him more money.

But the fact is he is and always has been a very solid boxer technically, especially defensively. Calzaghe doesn't really do much in the way of defense. Offensively he overwhelms most opponents with hands speed and constant motion. He's not going to beat Hopkins the way he beat Kessler. Hopkins isn't going to sit in the pocket waiting for pile on flurries like Kessler did. This should be a close fight. Hopkins should slow Calzaghe's work rate down with his footwork, which is one area where he's very technically skilled. What Calzaghe gets a lot of credit for is his willingness to stay on offense all three minutes of every round. That may be crowd pleasing, but it doesn't necessarily make someone a better technical boxer. Hopkins, on the other hand, goes offensive in spurts. Because it's a less crowd pleasing style, he doesn't get as much credit for the things he does well. He makes his opponents work hard to land punches, he sets up power shots well and he used to crowd well, but now more often than not he clinches.

Nope. Hopkins tries to intimidate everyone with his talk, with his face, with his bravado. It's a part of what makes him great. he is intimidating, his talk, his look, his record, everything about BHops is intimidating. and it has come in handy the last 10 years. But Joe is not going to be intimidated. Joe fears nothing. Joe has more confidence than anything Hops has fought. Joe is going to look Hops in th eface at the final press conference and weigh in and show him intenisty like he's never seen before. Joe sneered and smiled at Kessler at the weigh in and Kessler seemed a little blinded. Hops realizes Joe's confidence is greater than any he's ever faced. He will try to intimidate that confidence but it wont work. the white boy comment was a desperate measure because Hops understands Joe has the mental edge and he is trying to reverse it. He's trying to get in Joe's head. to shake his confidence. But there's no way in hell Joe will be intimidated. Joe is pure class and knows all the tricks. People don't realize what an accomplished legend of a fighter Joe is. people underestimate him cuz he's a white boy. Hops is going down to Joe Calzaghe. They have to get in the ring anyway. How could Hopkins be desperate? Plus, have you ever lived in a Black neighborhood? Oscar De la Hoya didn't want to look Fernando Vargas in the eye and he knocked Vargas out. Ricky Hatton acted like a little Manchester Bad A$$ and he got KO'd. Fights are won and lost in the ring.

Kessler is in his prime, is younger, faster, stronger, bigger and punches harder than Bernard. The only thing Popkins is better at is fouling. The man barely beat Winky Wright.

It doesn't matter if Bernard Hopkins doesn't intimidate Joe. He's gonna give him a royal ass beating on fight night. If the Calzaghe Kessler fight was competitive, Hopkins is WAY above Kessler's level. Plus the fight is at 175, there is no way Joe Calzaghe is taking this one. Bernard is the smartest fighter in the game just behind Floyd.

Yes, Carl Froch would beat Joe Calzaghe. I've said that for five years and it's my honest opinion. Then your opinon doesn't really mean anything. You accuse people for overrating Calzaghe when you do exactly the same thing with Froch. Calzaghe has actually fought a hell of a lot better competition than Froch and Froch is getting old now too. Based on what do you think Froch beats Calzaghe? This would be good... Cancel a fight at the last minute? There were negotiations, behind closed doors, that nobody even knew of until a few months ago. Calzaghe pulled out of a fight with Glen Johnson in 2004 at nearly literally the last minute, a couple of days before the fight. We're not talking about Johnson, you were simply stating Hopkins would have beat Joe 7 years ago, which is not true, since Hopkins canceled the fight, you can't make that assumption. It's kind of like a back-up excuse. "if Hopkins loses, he would have beaten him back then anyway"
