he will rady to take over, when williams moves up to 154, mayweather and mosely retire, cotto would have his first L. then he will step in and rule the division untill he himself moves up to challenge williass at 154
With the likes of Clottey, Cintron, Cotto, William and Margarito, gunning for welterweight supremacy, how does Berto measure into the equation?
Andre Berto is a better fighter than Joshua Clottey.
He's on another level. The hard work Clottey has put in, in coalition with his knockout victory over an extremely blown up defenseless Corrales flat out blinded people through smoke and mirror.
They fail to see that he's a lapser, he's limited, and outside of his "ring generalship", and stamina.........he's nothing special as a fighter.
Berto has the crazy power, tenacity, heart........fuck name it.

I personally feel they dont develop fighters the way they used to. As the purses get bigger and the stages to superstardom become more glamorous, its far to often nowadays that we see fighters rushed to prominence without ample time to completely mature. Though I fear this is the case for Berto, I really hope it isnt. Berto is an amazing prospect with great handspeed, sharp combinations and good skills. As they step up his level of competition, I hope they allow him to develop as a fighter. Just because a fighter beats one step up, it doesnt necessarily mean hes ready for the next. Case in point HW contender Povetkin, who at 15-0 has handlers seriously trying to have him face Wladimir! Let these guys grow into the shoes they have on now before you try to get them to fill up a champions shoes. That way you'll have more Pavliks, Jones, and Mayweathers (fighters who were brought along meticulously) instead of Brocks, Julios, and Grants (fighters who were rushed to stardom and couldnt hang in the sky with the other stars). Just my 2 cents. I know boxing.
Yeah it was against Cosme Rivera iirc. But he came back and won by a shutout. He was dominating the fight from start to finsih but just dropped his hands and slacked out and paid for it.
apparently Berto has been down in the Ameteurs a few times aswell ,David Estrada is not a really big puncher but he hurt Berto early in their fight aswell

Im just wondering when Berto is going to step up.

Berto is a quality fighter however my criticism of him is his defence is awfull ,and ive heard rumours that he dont have a very stellar chin
Yeah in 2 years he will do his thing. But i would luv to see judah vs Berto that would be a action packed fight.Or even Chavez jr vs Berto 2 very aggresive fighters would be perfect
i think berto WILL matter, and pretty quickly...
i think hes being managed VERY well....
his competition steps up a little bit more every fight...
he doesnt matter much now... but in 2 years or less, hes gonna be a force to be reckoned withco-sign this post!

I like Berto & think he has serious potential! He has some chin & defense issues but what prospect/contender doesn't have problems? I think he will be a threat in the WW division soon enough; He's young & it's no need to rush at this point...
Very good prospect who could give the guys you mentioned trouble. If he keeps taking slow steps up in competition he could do something. I hope they don't throw him in the wolves right away.
I used to really follow this guy. Sadly, I predict that he loses within his next five fights.
I agree. He's obviously got some great offensive skills but I don't know...he comes across as mentally weak to me....someone who couldn't handle adversity very well which he will likely face against the elite of the division.
man this kid is a beast, hes a very aggressive volume puncher with tons of speed, i want to see him step up his competition this year, i can definitley see a berto/judah fight or maybe a berto/quintanna after he loses to Williams.

If u ask me,HBO have more intrest in Berto then these four,i think there trying to build him up,Di'Bella is smart, putting him on all his PPVs undercards,so if anything,he will be more popular in the coming years, hopefully Williams will get the same exposure now that hes on HBO
How so? the only flaws I see in Berto is that he gets hit a lot, but it's something he can correct in the gym, but then again he's got such an aggressive style.
I like Berto but I'm concerned about his chin. With his style he is going to get hit, and I didn't like his body language after he got dropped by Rivera. I thought he may have been saved by the bell. But I do like Berto and hope this was something he just had to get past.
if berto steps to a puncher like cintron or cotto he is gonna get clocked, and hes not gonna fare much better against any of the other top guys
i think even zab judah, who i hate to give credit to, would trounce berto
