Jorge “Nino De Oro” Linares Headed Towards A Fight With Daniel Ponce De Leon?
Golden Boy Puts The Offer On The Table For Ponce De Leon

Los Angeles -- WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon has been asking for big fights with big names for big purses.
“I want to get paid,” or “I want the big fight,” seem to be the most common ideas streaming from the consciousness of boxers.
Unfortunately, unless a boxer hits the jack pot and gets picked out of the blue for a prime time, lucrative match-up, they have to work at marketing themselves into a viable commodity for the major boxing networks and opponents.
Every fighter has to start somewhere.
De Leon is not journey man and holds an alphabet championship, but he has not won over the hearts and minds of the fans, and in recent times there have been murmurings about a rift between Team De Leon and his promoter Golden Boy.
All that aside, every fighter must take their first step towards the promised land of triple digit paychecks and Golden Boy Promotions has offered De Leon just that, a first step.
Eric Gomez, vice president and matchmaker of Golden Boy, informed Boxing Confidential that Daniel Ponce De Leon has been offered a bout with young WBC featherweight champion Jorge Linares of Venezuela.
“We are in discussions,” said Gomez. “We made an offer to Ponce De Leon for a fight with Linares. HBO likes the fight and is interested. There are no specifics at this time, but we did make Ponce De Leon an offer.”
Gomez informed Boxing Confidential that like every fighter a tick north and south of the super featherweight class, De Leon is interested in a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Obviously De Leon will not win the Manny Lottery at this point in time, but a victory over Linares would be a step in the correct direction towards high paydays and spotlight fights.

Maannn, this is a good fight ... but not a good choice for DPL... he has a lot of good fights out there in his division why jump to a higher division.. ?? Anyways, good luck..
whos your pick??
i like this fight very much :D. I think its a toss up 4 me. Technically, hey jorge is a bit better in the skills department. But ponce owns the power and experience. I guess its time for these guys heading fast towards the big market while its still big. Judging from their last fight hey jorge can be hit big time from the early rounds. While ponce has problem dispatching against mediocre opponent. so i guess its time for these guys to prove everybody wrong :boxing:
Linares all day. He has the composure to watch the action, he's very mature for his age. Ponce is very predictable and would find the same issue moving up in weight that Hatton did. Linares is a future star and I'd pick him over any of the titlists at 126.
Linares has an excellent, versatile boxer-puncher style and I think he can be the next big superstar at that weight. That said, I don't think Ponce De Leon would be well-served to accept a bid.
Linares will be TOO smart to let himself get caught by De Leon. As a matter of fact, if this fight happens, I predict that De Leon will be the one to be hurt the most. He wont get KO'd but he will get hurt at least 2 times. Linares UD.
Linares easily wins this one but ponce has a puncher's chance. I still want to see linares going against robert guerrero.
Yeah I think that would be a better fight or Linares/John.
i would like to see r. marquez vs de leon....boxer puncher vs puncher-brawler.....rafa would have target practice in a stone chinned heavy bag or de leon cracks that chin with el cuerno de chivo.....
I agree, beat that circus freak and then he can get a big fight with Molitor.
Yeah Cabellero is like the Paul Williams of the Super Bantamweight Division.
De Leon has power, but definitely lacks in the technique department and doesn't fight exactly pretty. With him moving up in weight that power might not be as effective. Plus Linares is technically sound has power and overall is a superior fighter. IMO it would be a terrible matchup for De Leon as I see Linares picking him apart all night long. Maybe not knocking him out, but I see Linares beating him pretty easily. Hopefully this fight happens, a win for Linares could lead him to even better fights.
