^^Leading up to his fateful match with Marvin Hagler.:) Nope. Noone bitched and moaned, no one complained, no one protested, nothing. The only thing that happened was a good old fashioned, 3 round ass whipping by the hands of the Marvelous one. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Bill O'reilly attacked Bernard Hopkins, people are just going overboard with his recent comment. If you were offended, fine, but what are you gonna do? I suggest you stop venting and simply hope for the kind of justice laid down previously by Hagler, otherwise, you're only getting that much more shitted on if Hopkkins happens to destroy Joe. You people would look that much more foolish with your pride further stepped on. Calm down and stop bitchng...

Monkey chants and throwing bananas still happens in soccer, not in USA but in Europe
yeah its appalling hearing that news when our team goes abroad to some of the more culturally backward euro destinations.
Britain isn't immune to stupidity of course - I was pretty taken aback by the booing of the American national anthem preceding Tony's knockout, unless it was meant in some kind of satirical manner...but its clear it wasn't.
yeah that monkey chanting was always suprising, given that chimps have white skin under their hair where the sun hasn't reached their skin.

When are black people gonna learn?? It's only okay to be racist when you are NOT black, gosh I know that....and I'm black. We are suppose to sit there and take it and be good little boys and girls.

Wow, lmmfao! He did it Dave Chappelle style lol.
Only those who like to play victim and/or have an agenda will be "offended".

Thing is, its not the fault of the offendee, is it?
If you excuse a verbal insult too often, the next step is a physical insult, and then the economic/pecuniary insult, and next we'll have lynching and slavery being permitted based on the observation of skin colour.
Its hardly the fault of the offendee that some people react to hundreds of years of systematic enslavement based on skin colour attributes.
Spose it depends how thick your skin is. Comments like the "aint no white boy.." "ain't no black man..." really don't bother me. But, I know others can be upset by these sort of comments.

Ridiculous, you are talking about somthing said over 30 years ago and trying to apply it to todays standards.
Football fans used ro throw bananas on the field and make monkey chants when black players touched the ball less than 30 years ago.
Just one example of how times and racisl attitueds have changed.
Very stupid thread.

Personally speaking, I understand that you need historical perspective in order to evaluate history.
However I am pretty sure that people who used monkey chants at black athletes knew deep down that what they were doing was insulting and unfair, that's why they were doing it, to cause offense. They enjoyed doing it, and they deserved to be reprimanded for what they were doing. But they never will be now. They'll get off as scot-free as the lynchers of poor ol' Leo Frank wayback then.
I don't mind taking it further and stupidity runs rife everywhere and far bck in the roots of society. If George 'major tithead' Washington, the ultimate king of being a total cunnt, can support a statement that all men are equal in the American eye but then own, whip and trade free American men at his own home for his entire life, then you can kinda excuse people making a few verbal insults. Oh George so MUST have known deep down that what he was doing was wrong, but he ignored that inside voice because it was convenient and easy for him to do so.

Edit: didn't check the date of this thread.
Minter deserves much more attrition for what he said back then. Guy is a twit, although I expect the next generation will treat us with the same disdain for using derogatory language such as '***' and 'so gay'. We'll be the new old twats soon enough, if aren't already.
Hopkins deserves to be seen as a **** for what he said, albeit an amazingly highly talented ****. Calzaghe was just replying, but then he gets what he deserves for trying to beat up old black men and failing.
The people who argued that were all banned. Funny, huh?
are you even allowed on the internet? i thought chinese goverment blocked your internet connection to the USA because they want to preserve communism
LMAO this is older than slavery (so no surprise certain individuals have to bring it up).
Calzaghe gonna show how a real white boy fights.
whats that make hatton, asian?
Im surprised you were able to say something without sucking Floyds balls for once.
yeah, like that would be any different from u sucking on cotto's sack 24/7!

How so?
He posts a bunch of stuff not involving Floyd.
It is always about racism though.
1 or the other... or on a good day, both!

1. Do we have evidence that no one took offence? Minter is still apologising for this now.
2. This was TWENTY EIGHT YEARS AGO. In 1975 Ali was calling Joe Frazier a gorilla... does that make it okay for a boxer to call a black man a gorilla today because it happened decades ago?
Your point is..............?
I remember watching the fight as an eight year old, can't remember the comment myself, but my old man says he did get a lot of pressure put on him by the press and tried to recant by saying he meant to say 'any man' rather than 'black man'. He best lesson he got was three rounds of pain a goodish fighter schooled by a legend. The crowd was full of white racists , National Front etc and they couldn't handle it.
The Ali thing was a bit different because it was black on black, I think he called Frazier an uncle tom as well. George Foreman couldn't believe that how much more popular Ali was than him in Zaire 'I was blacker than him..' he said, unfortunately, George pissed them all off when he brought his German Shepherd dog with him (none of his PR guys realised that the colonial Belgians used to set these dogs on the locals if there were any demonstrations)
Bill O'Reilly is an old fashioned racist to be honest. He was offended by Pepsi picking up Ludacris, but said nothing of The Osbournes. I'm sure O'Reilly wasn't offended by Alan Minter's comments.
I can totally understand now why the English fans went nuts like they did when Hagler won.
