his only notable win (and it was very questionable) came against Margarito and that ain't saying much.
What win does either fighter PW or AM have against an "A" level fighter?
IMO, Margarito is a B level fighter at best. And the fact that PW and Margarito had so much trouble with each other probably tells us all we need to know about both and that PW had all he could handle and barely got by a "B" fighter.
Who has PW beaten that has earned him a shot at Cotto, Mosley or Mayweather? We've already put the win against Margarito into perspective, Mathysse has been exposed and Mitchell was washed up long ago....
I got to say that I really believe there was something wrong with Williams. I am not trying to make excuses for him but he just did not seem like himself at all! He was all discombobulated and off balance throwing weird punches that had nothing on them. He just seemed way off and didnt even seem too upset after his loss. I think there was something wrong with him coming in and it seemed that he didnt want to make any excuses after.
I do respect Paul for taking the loss, and not making excuses or blaming the judges, like a man.

yep just like i said quintana troubled williams and won the fight i just thought the judges were gonnna favor williams cuz its the usa ya know
Yeah, sometimes we call them right and sometimes we call them wrong.
Looks like we got this one. PWfight with Margarito is what made me suspect on him. I thought he lost that fight too....
Yes, and i have to say he looked verry impressive against Margarito!
I was there and saw the fight live. I have a different opinion, I didn;t think he or Margarito looked all that great, or even good. Sounds like you thought
different....
williams wont ko quintana not in pr
im sick of the williams beats everyone hype quintana is gonna trouble him
i tend to agree with you, I could be wrong but i think the fight goes the distance with quintana giving pw trouble and quintana will have a real chance at winning the fight. we'll see....
I really don't like Paul Williams. He isn't a good fighter at all, but he can suck weight ridiculously and win without any skill or other natural ability other than stamina. I mean, he has no boxing skill. No accuracy. He has no special handspeed, and he certainly has no power. He just doesn't stop throwing and is half a foot taller than a lot of his competition. Is there any fighter 6' tall in the entire world he could beat, let alone 6'2" or 6'3", whichever he is?
Well, I don't think it is fair to say he isn't a ver good fighter and all those other things you mentioned. My point was/is, beating Margarito (5 loses)
proved nothing about how good he may or not be.
At this point in time, no one knows how good he is or isn't. And I think that if he can not KO Quintana impressively the hype will not have been justififed.
LOL you must have been drunk then, because it sure as hell wasn't questionable, he won by at least 4 or 5 rounds.

This is true, and he is really careless on defense because of his physical attributes, which will hurt him in the long run. He's a good fighter, he's just getting hyped way too quick because of how unique he is.
Btw, Williams 8-4, maybe 7-5...he won.
watching live or on tv doesn't matter lol. seeing it on tv should be even clearer.
Sometimes it can make a lot of difference. I've had different opinions of fights that I've seen live after watching a tape of them. And more importantly, the official judges are always watching it live.
I had Taylor winning both, but I am not what you would call a good judge.
I also don't think Hopkins is downgraded by Taylor's loss. Hopkins just showed that he is an idiot with those two fights, because he didn't fucking even try to fight as many rounds as he should have. He won the rounds he fought... this was especially true in the first fight, but instead he choose to fuck around for the first 8 rounds. The dumbest strategy I think I have ever seen by a fighter.
I do agree about the angles and what not... We always give Harold a hard time for his scoring, but I can understand that if shit is happening across the ring, then it is hard to see what is happening.
yeah, his typical style when he is in tough; too conservative and not take any risk.
the other thing is there always seems to be things that get in the way when watching fights live, ring ropes, turn buckles, corner men, fans, judges etc. so it can make you miss alot of what is going on...
and it seems to me that the other issue is; when you are at a fight live you are obviously stationary and therefore can only see the fight from THAT angle. whereas the cameras are elevated and provide a much better vantage point.
i thought hopkins won the first and drew the second but now that taylor has been ko'd by pavlik it really seems to diminish the performance and significance of BOTH hopkins and taylor and their to fights?

I didn't find the Taylor-Hopkins fights particularly difficult to score though.
When Hopkins fought, he won the round... when he didn't Taylor won... For the most part... obviously that wasn't true every round.
I can imagine that being ringside in any of the Barrera-Morales fights would be extremely difficult to score compared to watching it on the television.

to me fights live verus fights on tv look very different most of the time. because of the camera angles and movement, tv also seems to provide a more accurate account of what occured...

I saw taylor/hopkins 2 and saw it the same, so no difference for me.

I only asked because I have been to a few myself (quite a few in LV and I don't libe there) and I have also had the chance to watch the same fight on TV later and have been very surprised at the difference on many occasions.

I think Paul Williams has a big question mark because of how strong Margarito came on in the later rounds... this supposive next big thing badass mother fucker was completely run over in most of the later rounds, once Margarito felt he had dicked enough rounds away.
This fight reminds me of Taylor-Hopkins I... Hopkins could have won that fight if he would have started fighting earlier... and I think Margarito might have been able to do the same. Taylor has turned out to be less than his pre-Hopkins hype, and I think the same might be true of Paul Williams. He has a freakish body, but I don't know if he has the skills to be able to beat everyone as some people are predicting.
I tend to agree with you. PW may be as good as some people hope, but the fact is getting a win against Margarito proved NOTHING. Margarito has no notable wins either and barely got by Clottey.
It is my guess that both of these fighters will prove to be decent champs but not great. Of course, only time will tell.
